Who am I to complain? I clearly don't read these short stories because of their originality. Aside from a couple of surprises thrown here and there, all Urdu novellas use the same generic formula; x is a really bubbly, chirpy/wise, sober girl who is scared of dogs and non-existent ghosts, she meets y who is either a handsome cousin or a dashing stranger, at first they either a) bicker incessantly or b) are really shy towards one another. As time passes (literally 3 or 4 pages), they develop feelings for one another. They confess but before they get on with their frustratingly predictable happily ever after, some tragic events (namely their parents rejecting their choice, deciding to marry them off to someone else {I say "them" but it is almost always the girl *sighs again*}) occur but hold on!! There is no need to be sad or anxious. We all know what's going to happen. *aggressive sighing* By some miracle, everything gets sorted out and huzzah! we have a tearful/cheerful reunion.
*clears throat loudly* Ahem... so, would I sound like an absolute loser if I say that I really, really enjoyed it? Yes, you say? Well I figured. Books never fail to entertain no matter how lame sometimes they are. It's a different "forces-you-to-like-it" kind of entertainment but entertainment nonetheless and I consider myself entertained! *makes deal with it face*
PS: Shahmeer's sass and taunts were priceless.
