Grace Ryan works to untangle clues left by her late grandparents—clues involving a WWII conspiracy that could tear her family apart.
History professor Grace Ryan returns to her hometown expecting to help her grandmother turn her journals and memories of WWII into memoirs. She arrives to find her grandmother being loaded into an ambulance. When she begs Grace to find the truth about a decades-old crime, whispers the word treason, then slips away forever, Grace is left to separate fact from fiction. Then, an unwelcome inheritance strikes at her already fragile family bond. Though God’s voice seems silent, He sends someone to stand in the gap for her.
Erik Petersson, unjustly accused of infidelity, suffered through an unwanted divorce and the loss of his children’s love to his former wife’s bitterness. A physicist on sabbatical, he agrees to help Grace dig through her late grandfather’s scientific papers. As he struggles to win back his children’s love, he and Grace are catapulted into a quagmire of truth and lies that could destroy any chance at happiness.
I read this book when it was first written in rough draft, as I was one of the author's critique partners at the time. I am SO thrilled to see it coming out in print now. I never forgot it. I loved this story with the ties to WWII and the unique twists and turns that kept you guessing what the secret might be and who the bad guy was....not to mention the lovely romance flowing through the entire story. A must read for any romance lover who also enjoys a touch of history with a contemporary setting.
History professor Grace Ryan King has returned to her hometown to help her grandmother turn her journal entries of WWII into memoirs. But is she too late? Seriously ill, her grandmother urges Grace to continue working on the memoirs and uncover the truth—but even more important...read her Bible...and find Katrina. Now Grace is on a quest to find the truth—however, someone does not want her to uncover the truth and Grace finds herself in danger.
Annie's neighbor, Erik Petersson is helping Grace go through her grandfather's scientific papers and try to learn the truth. As they search through all his documents, they start to uncover some disturbing facts. As the incriminating evidence mounts up, Grace finds herself in even more danger. Will she and Erik find all the evidence they need to solve the conspiracy before they are stopped—permanently? Will there be a chance for Grace and Erik to fall in love?
No Greater Gift is a suspenseful story that kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the last page as I tried to figure out the clues. The connection between to two time-periods is well shown as we are taken back and forth between present day Richland, Washington to 1935-1940's England as Grace reads Annie's journals. I enjoyed Annie's journal readings, although I was a bit confused at first regarding Annie, Katrina and the men in their lives (one being Grace's grandfather) in England. But after awhile I figured out how their lives intersected and what they went through during WWII—and some surprising, long-reaching choices they made.
I loved Annie's strong character, her faith and devotion to her family. Grace is another strong character who is a lot like her grandmother—with a determination to complete the task Annie set her on. Both Grace and Erik have heartaches from the way their families treated them in the past. I loved seeing the main characters' strong faith and the way they turned to God in each area of their lives. This is an on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense story, with strong true-to-life characters, heartaches, betrayal, blackmail, treason, conspiracy and intrigue, romance and love, forgiveness, reconciliation, touch of history and faith all woven into an unforgettable story.
~I had the privilege to be one of the final proofreaders before the books release, this is my honest review~
This was an interesting book involving a young woman who was bequeathed most of her grandmother’s possessions which included her real estate and a number of old journals. The grandmother began writing them when she was a teenager in England during World War II and had continued after she married and moved to the United States. The lead male character lived next door to her grandmother who had lead him to a saving knowledge in Jesus Christ. Neither the heroine nor the hero have a close relationship with their families. Early in the book, I thought this was basically a romance novel with glimpses of the grandmother’s romance with her grandfather through the journals. However, the story goes much deeper than just another romance. Her grandfather had been a very important physicist. Although he has been dead for a number of years, he plays an integral role in the story. If you want to enjoy some intrigue, suspense, romance, history, and faith all rolled into one book, this is a good one to read. I kept trying to sort things out until almost the end of the book. I recommend it as a very interesting story by an author who should do well. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
An intricately woven contemporary/historical mystery!
I fell in love with the two main characters, Grace King and Erik Petersson. They had so many layers to their personal story that it was a joy to see how each of them had grown to be strong believers. Both of them had been horribly wounded by false accusations and the way that they have been treated by family members. Neither of them though had given up on God because of it though. I was so encouraged just by how they turned to Him with each hard thing that happened throughout the story.
The plot was so well developed and presented that it kept my interest until the very end. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the sections from Gramma Annie’s journals that were interspersed within the contemporary romantic mystery story. They way that the two time periods connected with each other was very well done.
I will definitely be looking forward to reading anything else that this author writes.
I had the wonderful opportunity to be one of the final proofreaders before release. I have written my honest opinion of this story based on that reading.
Wow what an intense read! Finding truth could destroy even the smallest of joys in life for Grace. With the death of her Grandma Annie came the pleas given just moments before her death... Find the truth; find Katarina, let the truth come out! She can not know where to begin... But God! Reading the many journals her grandma had left for her we are taken back in time to London during the German occupation and back to present day life as she presses forward for truth. Meeting Eric, who wants to write memoirs from Annie's life, becomes her partner in bringing truth to light. Finding love was not on her compass, but being obedient to God and to her Grandma's last wishes were. At first it confused me going back in time and back to the present, the flip flopping, but soon the storyline came out I enjoyed this book to the fullest! Sitting after reading this book I'm in awe of what research and study had to be done to complete this book. I could not put it down. I had to find out what happened next and what happened after that. I don't remember a book that grabbed at my every emotion possible. I was asked to review this book in exchange for a copy and I'm so glad I agreed! If you want to read a well-balanced, capture your attention book then this is it! thank you
Can you ever really return home? Grace Ryan is hoping that she can. Planning to help her Grandmother turn her journals and memories into a memoir, Grace arrives to find her Grandmother Annie being taken away in an ambulance. After whispered words of treason and find Katrina, Grandma Annie passes leaving Grace to sort out the details and solve the mystery. The reading of the will lands another blow to Grace's already strained family relations. In order to find peace, Grace knows she must find the answers even if it destroys her family.
Erik Petersson has been tasked by Annie Ryan to help sort through her husband's papers. After her death, he feels the need to continue helping Grace solve the mystery. But at what cost? He has already lost his family will he lose even more?
I love how this book develops the characters. It brings WW II and history to life. The character's faith and love for God shine through in how they turn to Him for all. The plot gives you many twists and turns until you are not sure until the end who is the villian. I was not able to put this down and ended up reading it in one day. I received an advance copy in exchange for my hones review.
This intriguing, suspenseful story is so worth reading! The history woven into the story, along with the Winston Churchill quotes, is fascinating. The suspense in the two different time period stories is captivating! I loved the overall threads of forgiveness & reconciliation, and faith & trust that run through both stories. My favorite quote is: "...no greater gift anyone can leave a child than a strong, active faith in Jesus & a relationship with Him." Another favorite is: "Trust in God's ability to speak to you in a way you can understand." Teresa is a new author to me, and I look forward to reading more of her books.
No Greater Gift is a contemporary novel with a unique slant that ties it to WWII. Flashbacks between the current day and the historical time period work well. Quotes from Winston Churchill introduce each journal segment and I had no trouble keeping each story line straight. Morgan’s characters have strong motivations to act as they do. This well-crafted story has plot twists and an ending that are not predictable but make sense. For those who enjoy contemporary fiction, as well as the WWII era, Morgan’s book will be a treat.
Author Teresa H. Morgan writes a story that includes history, family conflicts, mystery, love and forgiveness. The ability to trust in God is a major key in the story, too. I like the way this author gives details and descriptions. The story line was well written and the characters are very believable. No Greater Gift has made me think about my own family history. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I enjoyed it very much! I think the author has a good writing and story-telling ability. I usually don't care much for historical novels, but she had enough current story line going with all the side stories that eventually criss-crossed into the plot.
I totally enjoyed reading this book. Mystery mixed with history is my favorite read! I don't want to give this away...but if you love reading World War II history of what went on in Great Britain...as well as the history of the persecution of Jews in Germany you will enjoy the viewpoint of this book as well as the mystery that is bedded in the story. I really do not want to give away any more than the story outline did...but I totally recommend this book!
This was a new author for me! And I am thrilled to have discovered her. It combines two of my favorite genres to read, historical and contemporary, while also having WW2 history in there.
Diaries, papers, espionage fill the pages as you seek to discover the truth along with Grace. It also discusses the topic of divorce, abuse and other relevant topics to Christians today, and how the situations were being dealt with.
I will be seeking out more books by this author in the future.
When describing No Greater Gift the words well-written, intriguing, heartwarming, inspirational, entertaining, and just-plain-fun come to mind. It’s the story of two broken people brought together by a mystery that has its roots over 70 years earlier in the WWII London. The mystery will keep you guessing until the end and the faith that heals old wounds will inspire you. This is a refreshing captivating read.
While the story was interesting, the writing was choppy. There was a lot of assumed conversation, that really caused the story to be hard to read at times.
Also, the cover art is not engaging. I would never have picked it up off the shelf if someone hadn't told me to read this book. I'm still not sure what it has to do with the story.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I am happy to say I was not disappointed. I hope to find more books by her. The story has so many undercurrents going on but the greatest was LOVE!
Really enjoyed the story, but was disappointed when I found many pages missing throughout. Don't know what happened....guess some sort of glitch in the download. Hope to read something else by this author sometime
I loved this book. Was a little hard to follow when they exchanged names. I was a young child during the war so I remember the feelings of fear and adult conversation I couldn't understand. That made the story very interesting for me
Most likely just me, but it was so confusing, switching back and forth to Germany/Jew conflict, keeping up with who was who taking other peoples names, and next thing it was current day story.
I really enjoyed the historical aspects of this book. I thought the characters were ok but somewhat predictable and over played. I enjoy reading books with clean language and no blood and gore. This one was a bit too squeaky clean which made it seem unrealistic. As a Christian I appreciate the opportunity to witness but in this book I felt it was overwhelming, again making it seem forced, and unrealistic. It was distracting to a good plot. Three and a half stars.
Superb, first rate book telling the story of Grace and her journey to document her grandmother and grandfather's lives. I loved the suspense , romance and God's love, and redemption intertwined throughout the book. The characters were crafted well and the storyline was intriguing blending present day with early World War II. This makes me want to honor my father and his letters from World War II. I look forward to reading more by this author.
I really liked this book. The story went from the past to the present. It had a lot of history in it that jogged my memories. The present was Grace the strong character in the story.
Grace's grandmother has past and on her deathbed asked Grace to find the truth. Grace along with her neighbor Erik set out to do so.
There are many twist and turns in the book and I would be a spoiler to write more on this. Great book really enjoyed it.
