I’ve been in Houston, Texas, writing novels and designing websites since 2009. Moving here was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, because I’ve been able to live wonderfully, and write my heart out. I’ve always enjoyed the arts in one form or another. Music sets the mood, reading stimulates my brain, and writing allows me to utilize my imagination in any way I want. I’ve been writing stories since I was a teen, and figured out it was my passion when I finished my first novel, Something About Eve.

I love being captivated by books that lead me into different, exotic places, and through impossible scenarios. I love being able to become someone else for a time. Reading has always inspired me to bring my own characters out to play. My hope is that my writing will inspire others, or at the least, give them a way to escape from everyday life for a little while.

If I'm not writing or reading, I'm training for triathlons. It's a good way to challenge my body the way I challenge my brain when writing. I'm not the greatest at it, but not only do I do it for the challenge, I do it for charity. It's a good motivation. :)

I wanted to like this. The cover and storyline in the blurb appealed to me. I liked that Greyson was 39, as the heroes in books seem to always be 28-32. I liked that Blaise was a florist. But, I did not like it. When I give a really low rating/review, I like to give the reasons why I came to the determination I did about the book.

1. Dialog- it was uneven, stilted, and there were a few places in the book where it was so awkward I felt that it was pulling me out of the actual story. I didn’t feel that real people would respond or say the things that they were saying, which made them incredibly hard to relate to while reading.
2. The nickname “doll” was used so much by Greyson that I started to find it annoying.
3. Tense- this was really uneven and the book shifted from passive to active voice, sometimes in the same sentence/paragraph. I know this is technically an uncorrected proof, but the book was published on 3-1-16, so I find it difficult to believe that none of the errors were corrected in the proof if they were caught. I think this was the issue in the first chapter when I actually found myself trying to figure out who was the actual heroine of the story. Partly, I think, because of the cover with the cake and the one friend being a baker/dine owner.
4. Characters- Greyson and Blaise seemed real, for the most part, ignoring the issues with the dialog. But Nora and Preston felt like caricatures. And Priscilla seemed like a cartoon villain out of a Rocky and Bullwinkle episode.
5. The book seemed afraid of being hot…there were a number of times where the characters almost kissed etc, but pulled back because they “wanted to make it right” or wait for the right moment, or were interrupted by something. I got tired of all of the “we really want to, but instead, let’s do this” push and pull in the book. And, I think actual people in this situation would as well. And, when the buzzer stopped them from having sex the first time, I was starting to think this was less a romance and more an example of people who just didn’t belong together and the universe was trying to tell them.
6. The subplot with Preston and the company just felt false and manufactured.
7. It annoyed me that he was annoyed/disappointed that Blaise asked for him to use a condom during their first sexual encounter…especially not an hour in “book time” away from admitting that he had been with a number of women.
8. The whole New Zealand/Vincent/not stillborn daughter/Greyson is dead subplot. Yeah, that.

I wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, I ended up feeling like I was on a journey with people I didn’t really know and who I was not able to talk to or connect with. The first roughly 65% of the book felt more like a story about 2 people who are interested in one another but will never manage to make a relationship work between them.

Coming Home (LA Lovers #1) by Jourdyn Kelly: This book is not normally my cup of tea. The characters caught me and their interaction drew me in. I fell in love with romance and action. If for no other reason it is part of a series and needs to fill the gap. If that is the only reason you try, you will find that this one is worth the time. 4 stars

My Rating:

4.5

Favorite Quotes:

“There is a fine line between arrogance and confidence, Mr. Steele. I abhor arrogance. Be careful how close to the line you get.”

“She risked red velvet cake asking Ellie to do this. You screw that up for her, and ultimately for me, I don’t think your military training will help you at all.”

“Action movies and a muscle car. You realize you’re every man’s wet dream, right? Tell me you drink beer and watch sports, and I’ll marry you right now.”

“‘You made me even later. If I lose my red velvet privileges, you’re losing privileges to my body.’ His eyes widened… ‘Red velvet, Greyson.’ Suddenly, she was in his arms, quickly being carried towards the shower.”

My Review:

I am having a hard time classifying the exact genre for this book as it had a little of everything. There was suspense, adult contemporary romance, steamy sensual scenes, family drama, humor, and women’s issues. However you want to catalogue it, I adored it. I like successful, witty, sassy, independent, and feisty heroines that can hold their own and give clever banter while doing so. I was intrigued, engaged, entertained, and smirking as I read. More please.

Since I've read the Eve Sumpter series first, i knew this was a hetero story. You can't help fall in love with Blaise, she's a woman that knows herself and takes no guff from anyone. Especially Greyson. Greyson isn't used to women saying NO to his advances. Usually if one does, he walks away, but he can't with Blaise.
This is a beautiful love story, with a plot twist and gives Greyson a mystery to solve. Definitely 5 stars!

What Worked For Me:
Warning…..be prepared to fall in love over and over again!
I have never read anything by Jourdyn Kelly, but after reading Coming Home, I know I will read more of her in the future. Coming Home is a beautiful and haunting romance about two people who find love when neither of them were looking for it. Blaise and Greyson stumble upon each other quite by accident. He parks in her designated parking space and she loses her mind over it, and eventually, him. Their first meeting is funny and poetic. And it’s during that very first meeting that you begin to fall in love with them! Blaise, our heroine, is amazing. I love the simplicity of her life and how she strives to keep everything unpleasant out of it. She very much knows what she wants and needs and her story is so heartbreaking, I couldn’t help but shed tears when I learned all she had been through. She doesn’t let anyone walk all over her and she guards her personal space and life with an iron fist. She’s not afraid to stand up for what she believes in and is most definitely no doormat. She was extremely fun to read and she has now become one of my all-time favorite heroines. Her hero….Greyson. WOW! There are absolutely not enough words in the human language to do him justice. He is alpha male with a sweet side who is willing to do just about anything to get Blaise to agree to a date. He woos her and in turn, wooed me as a reader. He is facing many obstacles of his own, pressures from his family and friends and must make a choice in choosing between the woman who will be the love of his life or his sense of duty to the obligations of a family hell bent on its own path to keep the family name alive no matter the costs. Together, Blaise and Greyson find they have chemistry that they can’t deny and the sparks that fly between them simply by being in the same room together will singe the edges of your e-reader. I love how Greyson pursues Blaise, giving her the time she needs without pushing her past her boundaries and even more I loved how relentless he was, never giving up in his quest to win the heart of Blaise. The sex was hot and erotic with just the right amount of sweetness. There are evil parents in this book, and even more evil relatives and more than a few surprising twists you absolutely do not see coming! The plot was rich and developed and I was never once bored. We are introduced to a few secondary characters that I can’t wait to see how their stories unfold. I found I couldn’t read this book fast enough and was equally mad that I finished so quickly. I never wanted the story to end! This book is now one of my all-time favorite books and I look forward to the next book in this series!

What Didn’t Work For Me:
The story was utter perfection!

Would I Recommend This Book:
Yes

Final Star Rating:
Sadly, I only rate up to 5 stars so I give it 5 stars. However, it deserves 10!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book was sooo good that I was surprised to be changing my opinion on contemporary stories. I really enjoyed this one and the only thing that kept me from finishing it in one sitting was work.

The story was very simple, yet highly addictive. Blaise Knight decided to give up on dating after many unsuccessful experiences in that department. For her, she didn't believe in love anymore and she needed to focus on her work in her flower store while enjoying her time with her close friend Ellie and her daughter Jessie.
Until she met the amazing Greyson steele.
Greyson steele was no one other than the exmilitary in the delta force and the rich businessman of the Steeles' Industries. To his dismay, he was forced into family business for the sake to save the family name and was imposed to marry a woman he can't stand just to fulfill his family obligations.
But things were going to change when Greyson met Blaise in front of her flower boutique. And his world was turned upside down.

"There is a fine line between arrogance and confidence, Mr Steele. I abhor arrogance. Be careful how close to the line you get"

Their relationship didn't start out well. And the sassy character of Blaise was only an invitation for Greyson to pursue her in dating him. The harder she resissted, the more he found himself attracted to her. And the story kept unfolding chapter after chapter until a turn of event was revealed. The story verged into a different direction using the suspense element to understand everything. And that plot twist!! I so didnt see it coming.
Having said that, the book was beautifully written and the sassy dialogue between the characters was very enjoyable. It was written from the 3rd point of view, yet I was able to connect with the characters easily; thanks to the solid writing and the smooth flow of the plot.
Despite how much I really enjoyed reading this book, I would honestly rate it 4.5 points instead of 5 if only those details weren't left with no explanation. For example, i really wanted to know Ellie's backstory and her secret, Ann and the need for Blood Orchlips, Eve sumptor new gallery opening. These stuff were tossed aside and didn't have a proper closure.
I don't know if there is a sequel to this one or any other book addressing them.
All in all, I recommend this book for readers who love lighthearted contemporary stories. It will not disappoint you.

4.5 STARS

This is the first book in the LA Lovers series. It is a standalone, though the characters from the next book make an appearance in this one, and vice versa. It’s told in alternating viewpoints that add an authenticity to the story that may have been missing if it had just been told in Blaise’s point of view.

I loved Blaise. She’s a cake eating, flower shop owning woman with a passion for life. Her relationship with her best friend was one of my favorite things and you just really wanted them BOTH to find Mr. Right. Her best friend is the heroine of book 2, so hopefully we find her happy ending soon.

Greyson was a little harder for me to fall for. On paper he’s amazing. He’s ex Delta Force and full of confidence and charisma. The fact that he was almost 40, and still living under the thumb of his controlling, cold hearted parents felt out of character for a man who otherwise seemed to know what he wanted.

Blaise and Greyson meet one hectic morning when Greyson parks in Blaise’s “flower shop van only” parking. He’s in her spot, and she’s in a hurry, so she blocks him in. They butt heads from the beginning, but there is an instant attraction that is undeniable (though Blaise tries her hardest to resist.) He pursues her relentlessly, and just as she’s beginning to soften to his advances she finds out about his soon to be “arranged” marriage. They are finally able to move past that, when another bomb drops. Then the book becomes a soap opera, complete with her being held captive, a kidnapping, and a murderous grandfather.

The crazy made me keep reading until the early hours of the morning, and I loved it. There were a few questions that were never answered, and while they weren’t MAJOR plot points… inquiring minds want to know. The first was her best friend’s “secret”. It was talked about throughout the book, but we never find out what it is. Also I was curious about the ancient plant that she recreates in the lab because of a special request. I was really fascinated by that, but it appears that it was a tie in from another series she authors…. so I’m pretty sure I’ll be picking that one up too. All in all, I really enjoyed this book and will be adding some of her other books to my to-be-read list.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Finally! A heroine that is not a damsel in distress. Blaise Knight may be one of my all time favorite characters, and this book does not disappoint in telling her story. I got to read this book in advance, and I am so glad I did. Some of my favorite things about this book are:

1. The friendship between Blaise and Ellie. I love this relationship. The personalities of the two women play well off each other, and this being weaved through the story gave an added flair that worked well.

2. Blaise's character in general: strong, ambitious, a fiercely loyal friend, passionate, and complex. Real! I usually dislike when books become sequel's, trilogies, etc., but I find myself wanting to know more about Blaise.

3. The heat with Blaise and Greyson. This is a hot couple without some prissy girl that acts like she is trying to save herself. So done with that storyline and this book does not disappoint.

4. Priscilla's character. OK I don't like her at all - but that is part of what makes this book enjoyable. It's hard to stop reading until you get to the point when she is put in her place - as she rightfully should be. Having encountered general hateful women with this self promoting attitude, who think they're better than everyone -- this character was believable and likely based off someone in real life.

5. The supporting characters. I just found the other characters to be refreshingly un-perfect. And not in the cliche sense. Greyson's parents are not the typical uber-supportive and loving parents who only have a misunderstanding with their kid. No. They are terrible, which actually exists in real life. His sister seems potentially likable, but given her oppressive family situation doesn't really have strength to break away from her oppressive family.

Having ready other books by Jourdyn Kelly, I was intrigued to see little bits of other characters in this one. Making blood orchlips for Anna and preparing for the opening of Eve Sumpter's art gallery. I loved seeing some other characters I love weaved through.

Not only do I recommend this to anyone, I plan to read it again myself!

This was my first time reading anything by Jourdyn Kelly and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Jourdyn Kelly has given us a lovely and haunting romance about two people who finally fine love without looking for it.The characters are sweet and very likable ,and I like how each chapter seems to flow into the next. This is Greyson and Blaise touching story. Greyson is a man who wants somebody good in his life. He was a man I had a hard time liking .Why ? Because he didn't know enough to take no for an answer ,he would just get bothering them to go out with him ,after they had said "NO" Then there's Blaise who's living her life perfectly ,she visits her best friend nearly every weekend, goes out for dinner for cake. But then one day when she's on her way to work ,this car is in the parking lot. And since then Greyson starts to bother her about going out with him for coffee, or to have lunch with him but Blaine's answer is always a huge "NO" to him. It seems like their were on a ride trying to get to know each other. But Greyson became more persistent well she kept ignoring him. This story had me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what was going to happen between this couple. Blaise is a woman that won't let anybody walk over her ,knows what she wants, she rules her life with an open hand . And she stands up for what she believes in. And Greyson is an alpha male ,who's charming and sweet, and he's really willing to do just about anything to get Blaise to go out with him for a date. He's a man that has pressure of family and friends to choose between love and duty to keep the family name alive no matter what. The chemistry between those two is hot and steamy with just the right amount of sweetness. Jourdyn Kelly plots were perfectly written and very well developed which kept me interested in this story. I could go on and tell you more about this sweet story, but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this sweet story, you won't be disappointed.

I give this book 4/5 stars

First, I must start with how shocked I was about 3/4 of this book. It gave me one of the biggest plot twists I've read in a very long time. I was slightly scared but mostly excited.

So this book tells us the story of Blaise Knight, a New Zealand woman living in the States who owns a flower shop called "Knight in Bloom". She lives a good life doing what she loves not only selling flower arrangements but also experiments with them (which I loved about her), has an obsession with red velvet cake and runs every morning with her best friend, Ellie. One day, she finds a car parked on her spot outside her store and she blocks that car because she had to deliver flowers and suddenly, the owner of the car goes to her shop to ask her to move. The owner of the car is none other than Greyson Steele, top executive of Steele Industries. The chemistry is instantaneous but Blaise has her doubts. Loads of things happen and never what you expect.

Now, for the review, I believe this book is one of the most entertaining books I have read in a while.. What I liked of this book is how real Blaise and Greyson feel. They know their relationship is building up so fast that they, especially Blaise, wants to put on a hold and go slow, which is totally normal. Although there were some parts where I wanted to slap Blaise because she was extremely reluctant on some parts. For the best friends, both Ellie and Cade (Greyson's best friend) are on point, always delivering good advice and just being the only ones actually caring for Blaise and Greyson. Blaise has no family left apart from her grandfather (that she knows of) and Greyson's family is more preocupied for the status and what they consider the "family honour" than actually caring about other things.

Shit happens when the plot twist is delivered and oh boy, it is a wild ride. It turns from a romance book to a mistery thriller. It was such a marvelous reading. It kept me on edge. There were a few things that didn't allow me to give it five stars but it's such a worthy reading, I love it.

Coming Home, written by Jourdyn Kelly, is the first book in the LA Lovers series. This is the first book that I have read by this author, and have to say that I was truly impressed! I wasn't sure what to expect because this was an author that was new for me, however, this story exceeded my expectations. I am looking forward to reading more by Jourdyn Kelly.

Blaise Knight is the owner of a successful flower shop, Knight in Bloom. She has some pretty amazing friends, and life is going great for her for the most part. Well, everything is great except for the fact that she can't seem to find a decent man. She finally decides that that perfect man doesn't exist...until she meets Greyson Steele.

Greyson Steele is a thirty-nine year old man with his own share of problems. His meddling mother is planning a wedding for him to a woman he does not love, and does not want to marry under any circumstances. Everything changes for Greyson once he meets the owner of Knight in Bloom.

The story that unfolds is one filled with realistic, and just overall great characters. This is more than just a romance novel...it is filled with romance, humor, suspense, mystery, and family. Blaise is a strong lead character, with a good head on her shoulders. Greyson is also a character you can't help but love. The chemistry between them is electric, and you want to see them together. I loved the humorous and witty banter of the characters, and also the fact that the story wasn't completely predictable. Overall, this was an engaging and terrific story with some added mystery and suspense that added to the overall plot. I am hoping that there will be a book in the series about Cade and Ellie in the near future.

I was given a digital copy of this book from Jourdyn Kelly and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review.

I'm a person who loves to read contemporary romance. This book is worth to read it more than twice ! I even want to give it more than just five starts. Here is Greyson a man who is kind of "desperate for somebody good in his life", as I like to call it. That in the story I start to hate him, don't even know the reason. It was just he hates when a women says to him. Like why do you have to keep bothering because she say no to you in the first place?

This books about Blaise living her life perfectly, visiting her bestfriend every weekend. And goin to her dinner to eat some cake (just from the cover you get the idea of it). But there's one day when she was on her way to her work, and there's was this car on her parking lot. Since that day, Greyson started to bother her asking her to go out for a coffee, then he ask her if she like to have lunch with him. But Blaise kept saying a big NO to him. They went on a big roller coaster. Trying to know each other. Blaise ignoring him made Greyson more persistent.

I really like the book. My feelings when on an on here. There was a part that my heart start racing faster. The part I was reading was really intense nd I love it. You get a lots of feels, cause one you start reading you can't stop it. It was a fast-paced read, intriguing, a little bit of suspense (You need to read I to understand what I said here), sweet, lovely, full of values in our life and mostly it shows how a woman can be so afraid of falling in love again. Just with the fact what she went through a lot of things in the past. That kind of made her a "coward".

This book was a pleasant surprise for me. I wasn't expecting the mystery and a little suspense in this romance but it was really good. This is my first Jourdyn Kelly novel but it will definitely not be the last (I hope she writes a book with Cade and Ellie).

Blaise is the owner of floral shop that has been unlucky in finding a man she can put up with who doesn't allow he ego to come into play. In walks Greyson, he isn't any different from the losers she's encountered but there's something about him that gets her blood boiling (in a good way). Greyson cannot get over his instant attraction to Blaise but she refuses to give him the time of day although she feels the attraction too. When Blaise finally gives in to what she is feeling things take a drastic turn that neither persons (nor I) was expecting. "coming Home" was well written with developed characters that you can't help but love and root for. I love Blaise's witty and snappy comebacks as well as Greyson's "confidence". I honestly was expecting a typical "they lived happily ever after" ending, but once I reached the ending I was really surprised how the book turned. Overall, a great read and I'm anxious to read more book by Jourdyn Kelly.

I got this book from net gallery for an honest review.

The narrative was good and I like how Greyson pursues Blaise. I even liked the fact she played hard to get and enjoyed the encounters they have together. However, Blaise's character after awhile annoyed me: the phrase one step forward two steps back comes to mind because when the story makes a small progress forward, everything goes back again somehow. I liked Greyson's character, as he was a little more forthcoming with his feelings. Greyson might come across as an arrogant playboy: but appearances are deceiving and that's what I liked about him. I liked the friendship between Blaise and El - their girly banter was always entertaining. I liked this book, but found it dragged on in places. It would have been nice to have further insights into Blaise's character, from the beginning, because I felt this aspect was lacking which contributed to the book dragging.

I received this book in advance for review.

This book is a 'just one more chapter' type of book. I have been lost in this book loosing sleep and time to find out how the relationship of Blaise and Greyson turned out.

One chapter flowed into another, and the characters are very likeable. You just want them to get on, get everybody else to keep their noses out and for love to blossom. Will they or won't they make it into the new territory of 'relationship' status?

When a turn in events has Greyson travel half way around the world to get her back, will they kiss and make up or will she turn her back him and allow the businesses to come between them, let alone the bombshell for both.

Anybody who loves chick lit and romance will love this book. A very good read.

I really liked the story and the characters. I found myself laughing in various parts, especially the friendship between Blaise and Ellie, and Jessie, their friendship is strong and beautiful, and really fun as well.
And when Greyson Steele appears in Blaise's life, her opinion of relationships changes completely, until the hideous Greyson's family appears to disrupt everything.
A very well written history and well developed characters. I loved everything! And I look forward to reading about Ellie's story.

Intriguingly Captivating

I was hesitant about reading this book but I'm glad I took the chance because 💯 I loved this story!!!!

It broke my heart, pissed me the hell off & reduced me to tears, riding the emotional rollercoaster from the prolgue to the epilogue.

The unpredictable & suspenseful storyline made this a very entertaining & engaging book. With a natural, almost effortless, flow to this interesting narrative & relatable characters made it an easy read.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys twists & turns with their romance!!

This is honestly one of the best books i have read in awhile. The story between Greyson and Blaise is wonderful with twists and turns that made it capture your attention. I tried to make the story last as long as i could but it seemed impossible to lay the book down. I would love for there to be another book about them.

A straight book! And I loved it. I read this one because I read the other books in the serie and I wanted to know Blaise’s story. It was a long time that I read a straight/hetero romance story. But this one worked for me. The chemistry and the connection. And even the sex scenes were hot. I really felt the angst in the storyline. I love Jourdyn’s way of writing. More than 5 stars.

What a story!!!

Unlike a lot of romance stories, this actually felt like a good length tale. So much action and when the inevitable tension towards the "romantic bump in the road" built I began to feel physically sick, I was that invested in Blaise and Grayson. Definitely a must read!

Knight in Bloom

Blaise Knight owns her own florist shop and has two PhDs in botany and horticulture. When Grayson Steele parks in her parking space she blocks him in while she gets her deliveries ready. She can’t abide arrogant, entitled rich guys. Thus begins the relationship of f a lifetime for two strong people who have loyal friends who love them. Great story.

At first my eyes rolled to the back of my head when I figured this was going to be a hetero love story, but honestly I brushed past it when I saw it was Blaise's story. I read some of these novels out of the normative order, so I was enamored with Blaise for a while from some of the other books she appeared in. To see just how strong and willed she was since the beginning, I fell in love with her character even more. I cringed at some of the points because it just seemed funny, but I have to give it to Greyson, he was such a gentleman with Blaise, even though he could be quite annoying, but not as annoying as Cade haha. Actually so happy that nothing really happened with Cade and Ellie, because he just seemed a little too into himself for sweet Ellie. Loved this build on to the LA Lovers series.

Coming Home

Jourdyn Kelly hit it out of the park with this one. Even though I knew some of the back story, I was still surprised at times. I have read all the Sapphic books in the series, avoiding these. Now I wish I hadn't. It has brought more depth to the characters and a fuller understanding of the interactions. I will continue with the series.

Ohhh I hate it when you are stuck with what you feel about a book. I mean I didn't hate it but then I didn't love it either. I think o just felt a bit confused by it. Looking at the cover and then reading the bio I went into this book thinking that it would be a sweet love story. But it's nothing like what I expected and that's both a really good thing and a bad thing because when you have your mind set about something it's sometimes hard to turn it around to see it differently. I don't think it's a true romance book and perhaps should be labelled differently. I didn't know perhaps I just didn't gel with this book which is how it goes sometimes.

So enter stage Blaise Knight who used to live in New Zealand but has moved the the USA. Blaise owns a flower shop and I just loved all the details about what she does with the flowers and the experiments ect. Blaise also loves red velvet cake so do I yummy, and she enjoys running with her best friend.

Enter into the stage Greyson Steele. Greyson and Blaise have an altercation on their first meeting. Because Greyson is parked in the parking space Blaise usually parks in. So Blaise blocks him in because she needs to deliever some flowers. Let's just same neither of them are happy with the situation.

Now of course their love story happens. It is full of twist and turns and steamy chemistry but nothing ever happens quite as I'm expecting it too. Which is also why I'm not sure what I think about the book. Because sometimes I was just like huh.

Now I will say this there is a big twist in this story something that I think came out of the blue and again had me going huh. Which turns the story from a romance to a mystery which is why I said I am confused about what genre it should be and why I'm still confused whether I liked it or not. I think this book is going to be a condery to me for a long time. Hay ho. You can't win them all can ya.

Thank you to Netgalley, publishers and Jourdyn Kelly for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review

Happy reading everyone

This review is based on an ARC provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

This book was a solid 4 until Blaise was forced to go to NZ. I have no clue what was held over her head to get her there.
