Elle writes gothic, paranormal mystery for the Harlequin Intrigue line and paranormal romantic comedy for Dorchester Publishing. A former manager of computer programming and project management professionals, Elle is happy she now has the opportunity to pursue her writing full time.
I was so very disappointed in this, especially since the summary made it sound so interesting. It wasn't even a real book. It was very short, coming in at 200 pages; and really wasn't much more than an outline of a book. Kind of like a BLT without the Bacon and Tomato. Bare bones.
Add in that the bad guy was so obvious from the get-go, he may as well have had 'villain of story' tattooed on his forehead the moment he appeared. It's like the author couldn't be bothered to write a full book, so she gave the cliffnotes version. There were so many missed opportunities in the storytelling. Very disappointing.

This book is part of a series, but reads very well as a standalone. This was a very personal book for Ms. James. Her passion for it came through and touched me deeply. I can only hope that its' message reaches others and makes them make some profound changes in their lives. I also had a Bear in my life. He was a Navy Fighter pilot and I miss him.
Mia Chastain is a successful screenwriter who has not been to her hometown for more than a few days at a time in 11 years. Now she has moved home to settle her parents estate, write a screenplay and face a terror from her past. Her first night home, someone breaks in and she seeks refuge with her friend Sadie and her husband, Hank. Hank, a former Nave SEAL, has a new business, Brotherhood Protectors. On of his employees, Tate "Bear" Parker is at loose ends and he agrees to act as Mia's bodyguard.
Bear is former Delta-Force who was injured and medically discharged. His new job with Brotherhood Protectors offers him a new opportunity to just his skills and training. When he hears Mia's story, he wants nothing more that to tear the guy apart. His alpha protective instincts are on high alert.
Mia and Bear have an instant attraction which Bear does his best to fight. Mia is amazed that Bear has awakened feelings she thought she didn't possess and she is not going to let him put up much of a fight.
Being a romance you knew that Bear and Mia were going to get together, and I liked that the author had Bear be her first sexual experience. That said I thought that this whole story happened way too fast to be believable, and ended way too abruptly. What happened after the sheriff showed up? Was Kylie held accountable? What happened to the two of them? Did they find more victims? Where was the eplilogue? The first two books I felt the same, but I dealt. Couldn't with this one. Too bad I really liked the characters. I won 't be reading any more of this series.

Umm, felt like the first half of a book... I didn't really feel that I knew any of the characters. What was the outcome? Did the doctor survive? Who were the other victims? Did they/their families get closure? Where was my epilogue???!!!! And it was soooo obvious who the baddie was... sighs.
Mia has returned home with the intention of an extended stay, something she swore she'd never do, for the first time in 11 years. There's also a few added benefits of getting away from everything for a while. She needs some quiet to work on her script and she can reconnect with her old friend, Sadie (see book one), and as this script is somewhat autobiographical, Mia is dealing with memories that are resurfacing of a traumatic experience, one that she never told anyone about.
Tate, aka Bear, is medically retired from the military and now works for Hank's (see book one) company, Brotherhood Protectors. Bear is about to meet his first assignment, Mia, after she literally stumbles into his arms, scared after something happened.
As Bear and Mia grow closer while he's protecting her, more possible links to Mia's experience are revealed, thereby placing her in danger. Can Bear keep her safe? Will Mia be able to take a chance on fully living? Or will her past continue to shape her present, her future? Who is to blame for all these tragedies? Will Bear and Mia get their HEA?

This is the third book in the Brotherhood Protectors series. Tate "Bear" Parker was injured in the military and has been medically discharged. He has traveled to Montana to become a member of the Brotherhood Protectors. He is staying with his new boss Hank and his wife Sadie. Mia is a friend of Sadie's from school and Mia has just moved back to the area to get some writing done within her deadline but she is very nervous about being back in her old family home. Mia falls asleep only to be scared awake by a door being kicked open. She slips downstairs and sees her back door have been kicked and and runs for her car so she can drive to her friend Sadie's house. Mia has kept a secret from everyone for may years. When Mia was 16 she was kidnapped after getting off the school bus to walk to home. The man who took her wore a mask so she had no idea who he was but he terrorized and raped her. Bear has been assigned to protect her as well as do some repairs to the home so no one else gets in and try's to hurt Mia. Bear is falling for Mia but with her past she may not be interested in him. There is danger at every turn but will Bear be able to keep Mia safe? I love this book, this is an original story where the victim has decided not to ever be a victim again. This story shows the resilience of the human body, mind and spirit. This is a must read. If you have ever been assault you may have a hard time reading this book but I can tell you it brought my past into perspective.
Mia heads home to straighten up her parents affairs, finish the screenplay she is writing close to her heart. It is about a girl who is raped. Bonus if Mia can figure who raped her at age 16. Mia never told anyone and left for college and never came back.
Mia and Sadie were friends in high school. Her parents have been dead for a year and Sadie warns her about the rumored “ghosts”. Her first night home she wakes from a nightmare to a sound. She discovers the backdoor has been broken in. She runs to her car to Sadie’s house.
Bear is staying w Hank and Sadie and can’t sleep, his leg is in pain. He is out on the front porch when a car comes screaming up the road. Mia is a wreck, after calming down and agreeing to Bear becoming her bodyguard/handyman she spends the night.
This book is near to the author as she is a rape victim. However, Mia goes from docile and frightened to one hell bent to find her rapist all in a day or two. I didn’t buy that, otherwise she would have tried to put her life together sooner. The rapist is pretty easy to figure out but story flows well.
I love books by Elle James and this one kept me glued to my ereader until the end. Unfortunately that end came a bit too quickly for me. I know that all books must end at some point but an awful lot of stuff happened in this story and I think a quick epilogue would have wrapped things up a bit neater.
Those things being said, based on the dedication this book must have been difficult to write so I applaud Elle for telling this story. You can read the dedication if you “look inside” on Amazon to see what I mean.
Mia and Bear have good chemistry and when things finally come together for them it was hot. The Brotherhood Protector books are enjoyable stories and I look forward to reading more of them.
I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Warning: this book may contain triggers for anyone who has suffered from a sexual assault.
Elle James writes a really good novella. I've enjoyed all of her stories that I've read. Bear and Mia had a quick romance with great chemistry. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Montana D-Force is the third book in The Brotherhood Protectors Series by Elle James. This series is a great blend of romance, action, and suspense - which is all set against the rugged backdrop of Montana. These books introduce us to a team of former military heroes who dedicate their lives to protecting others, all while navigating their own personal battles. Ms. James’ characters are definitely the heart of this series, and each protector is uniquely crafted, with a mix of strength, vulnerability, and charm. Their camaraderie and loyalty to one another also creates a sense of family that adds an extra element to the stories/series. These plots are fast-paced and packed with twists, cleverly blending high-stakes danger with heartfelt romance. Whether it's a SEAL turned cowboy, or a sniper finding love amidst chaos, each book delivers a satisfying mix of adrenaline and emotion. Elle James also weaves in themes of redemption, trust, and healing, making the series not just entertaining, but also heartfelt. With gripping storylines, endearing characters, and just the right amount of heat, this is a series that will leave you eagerly reaching for the next installment. Happy Reading…
Riuscirà Bear a proteggerla?
Third book of the series. Bear's story, one of the new recruit for Brotherhood Protectors private agency by Hank (First book). Recently in his forced military discharged and back to civilian life and taken his new job as one of the new agents. Mia, a famous screenwriter and went back to her hometown to write her new project and it was very close to her experience. She was a rape victim during her teen years and her rapists is still out there and raping and murdering other women. Bear was take the job being Mia's bodyguard and they're both quickly fell in love with each other. They're both determined to find Mia's rapist so that there's no more female victim in her hometown.
I like the story it's a quick read and fast paced book. The villain in the story was so obvious enough right after he was introduced in the story. I felt lacking on the ending. It will be nice if there's some other additional scenes or the chapters are a little bit more or additional to the relationship between Mia and Bear. Overall, it's a nice read in one sitting.
Montana D-Force is the third compelling book in the Brotherhood Protectors series. In this book, we meet Bear, who recently gave up his time in the forces are one too many harrowing missions. Talked into going to Montana to join others in a protection company, his first assignment finds more than dangerous situations, he finds himself in danger of losing his heart. Formidable alpha males, balancing their bravery with deep emotional struggles, and headstrong women who prove to be their undoing. It is charged with tension as they navigate this new environment as bodyguards. Along his journey, he encounters a diverse cast of characters, including resilient women who exude strength and empathy, showcasing their remarkable tenacity in the face of adversity. Montana D-Force is an exciting tale of loyalty and courage, where looming threats jeopardise their lives and the lives they swore to protect. This story not only highlights the fierce devotion of its alpha heroes but also emphasises the importance of connection and resilience against a backdrop of uncertainty and danger.
The third book, "Montana D-Force" pretty much follows the established formula for the Brotherhood Protectors series. After being medically discharged, former Delta Force soldier "Bear" Parker finds himself wondering what's next. His life and his family have been the Army and civilian life doesn't have a big market for his skill set. But some Army connections hook him up as a bodyguard to screen writer Mia Chastain, who has returned to her childhood home in Montana to write a screenplay about the rape she endured as a teen. The plot is on the thin side and, while the two main characters are easy enough to like, they're a bit one dimensional. And then there's the nearly immediate lustful attraction between Mia and Bear and the rest, as the saying goes, is history. It's all wrapped up nice and neat and so slick it's kinda like having just a small salad for dinner. No meat, no potatoes, and no dessert. It's okay, but not very satisfying.
It would take a lot of courage for Mia to do what she came to Eagle Rock to do. She's going to write the screenplay based on the events that happened to her thirteen years ago. Unfortunately someone is already trying to scare her away.
This is a favorite scene where she meets Bear for the first time and Sadie and Hank find out the truth of why she came here to write.
Hank is determined to figure out who the rapist was all those years ago and Mia has the revelation of what if she wasn't the only victim back then or since.
Bear becomes her protection and a bond forms between them as they battle their respective demons. A heartrending story, with love and support of friends, a new relationship and so many twists you won't be able to put this books down.
I have rest of the books in this series and now I can't stop reading it. On to book 4.
Sadie’s former BFF, screenwriter Mia Chastain emotions are running rampant now that she’s back in Eagle Rock. Working on a deadline to complete screenplay that turns out to be her personal story and being at her parent’s home which is lately rumored to be haunted are shredding Mia. After a bit of exhausting cleaning, Mia easily falls asleep but is awakened by strange noises. A quick investigation later, Mia finds a damaged door leading outside.
Fear but clear thinking propels Mia to Sadie and Hank’s and she tells them the whole story. Realizing a violent criminal could still be on the loose in the area, Hank assigns Tate “Bear” Parker, to be Mia’s bodyguard working undercover as her handyman while the team investigates Mia’s story and try to narrow a list of suspects. Rating: 4stars
3 Montana D-Force (Brotherhood Protectors Book 3):Bear and Mia by Elle James 5 stars I purchased a copy of the steamy romantic suspense novel Montana D-Force (Brotherhood Protectors Book 3)by Elle James and this review was given freely. Poignant and suspenseful with violence and a bit of steam this novel contains a serial rapist. Mentally blocked, Sadie's LA screenplay writer friend, Mia Chastain returns to Eagle Rock,Montana a year after her parent's death hoping to find peace from her rape 13 years ago and to complete her manuscript by the deadline. But, a breakin sends her fleeing to Sadie for help and into the arms of former Delta Force member Bear.
What about addressing gun safety? She ran out with the door left open and a gun in her suitcase. At Sadies house she told everyone she had a gun in her suitcase AND had a carry permit. No attempt or concern about going to get it or board up the broken doorway. Nobody went back until the next afternoon and then the only thing mentioned was getting clothes out of her suitcase. Really? You have really stupid characters or you as an author didn't do your research. Maybe none of that should have been in the story at all. Weak ending and too many other character faults to point out. A ten year old could have written a better story.
Bear may be an honourably retired ranger but he's not out. He's one big tough member of Brotherhood Protectors and when Mia needs someone to protect her, he's the man. Bear and Mia try to ignore the attraction to each other and Bear is worried he'll frighten Mia if he acts on that attraction. I'm loving the Brotherhood Protector series and look forward to reading more in the series. It's one action packed read.

She came home to write her script and face a faceless ghost. She had a scare and ran to her friends and finally told her what happen 13 yrs ago the kidnapping and the horrible raping she endure she hired one of her friends husband as a bodyguard. Bad things were still happening and finding out about other rape victim. It was a sheriff deputy and ahe gone to school with her.
This is an entertaining story with suspense, some action, great characters, and a romance. Some of the subject matter (rape and assault) was difficult. I liked this book but not as much as the first 2 in this series. There wasn't enough action and I didn't find it very believable that Mia would walk out the back door of the diner without Bear. But it was a good story and had a happy ending and it helps develop the series further.
Loved feisty Mia. She is a real fighter. Bear is such a sweetheart. They truly belong together. He surely helped her through her traumaLot of suspense, action. I knew it was him as the rapist, Seemed like it had to be ( not want to give away a spoiler. ) him. I wished there had been mor background if Bear’s life as well as Mia’s. Also the reasoning that made the rapist do what he did all these years He was one sick SOB.
Mia goes back to her hometown after surviving a horrific trauma years earlier and losing her parents the year before😢 When the reason she’s come puts her in danger, her friend recommends a bodyguard. Bear is new to the body guarding gig, but is happy to help Mia...but it seems someone wants to keep his secrets and is willing to take her out to make it happen😳
A good short story, that’s easy to read and I have to admit I guessed the “who dunnit part”😊
Mia returns to Montana to face her past. Little did she know the at past would come back with a roar. Bearx'ss first assignment is protecting Mia after what seems to be a series of attempts to frighten or harm her. You may be surprised at who the culprit is, the depth of their depravity and the lengths they go to in covering up the past. All the while Bear and Mia get closer and her willingness to trust him is truly a gift.
Tate "Bear" Parker has been medically discharged and goes to work for the Brotherhood. His first case is Mia Chastain. Mia returns to her home after leaving for college and only coming home on short stays. Her parents died last year and she has come to write a movie script; it's based on her earlier life.
Seems her return has stirred problems and now her life is in danger. Tate and Mia become closing as he is her bodyguard and knows her secret.
Join Mia and Bear as they uncover old secrets, fight for their lives, find new victims and help each other heal....this is an emotional roller coaster of a book, with Mia fighting old demons and new fears. I did guess the perp pretty quickly, but this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book or from the plot as it unfolds, as you don't get confirmation of your suspicions until the final two chapters. A great, fast paced book that I read in one sitting.
This book was really intense the content of the story from our heroine that’s needs a bodyguard can be difficult for some. I cried for what happened and it kept me emotional Thru out the book however our hero Bear is a true hero and is so loving and understanding and so patient that he helps her Thru her fear and the love they found is built on trust and respect truly an amazing book
