Left me speechless. How can a mother approve of such abuse to her daughter.

Phew can't stop crying and am totally lost for words. How can a mother let her same blood pass all that abuse and be even part of it???? It's beyond this world. I just know that Anna's story is going to be with me for the rest of my life. Anna I don't know what to tell you really. I've just finished it and can't stop crying. Tears of sadness for what you had to endure and tears of Happiness for what you succeeded to achieve even if you had to pay such a high price. I dearly wish you well and somehow I feel you so close. May God be with you dear x x

By far the hardest book I've read, purely for the fact that I can't believe that there are such evil people in the world.
The torturous abuse that Annabelle faced throughout her childhood and will continue to face throughout her adult life is horrendous. Worse, even still by the fact that her own sick and twisted mother could do this to her own daughter as well.
I purchased this book as a sign of the only support I could give her in the form of money. I know money can never take away the suffering but I hope it helps in some way to support Annabelle and her family.

To start, I'm oddly fascinated by cults of any kinds, so I had to give this a go. Massive, MASSIVE warning: this is a TOUGH read. There were parts of this story where I thought I would have to put it to a stop and walk away. In the end, I kept turning pages because I felt I owed it to the author to hear her story. Shutting the book before I was done would be like turning my back on all those years of torture she endured, so it didn't feel right to give up on her story.
The things the author had to go through from the age of eleven were unthinkable and almost (almost) unbelievable. It's despicable to think there are people out there like Colin Batley who are capable of such atrocities. His ability to corrupt and brainwash numerous people into his nonsensical and perverted beliefs is pure insanity.
Anna is one of the most courageous people I've read about in quite awhile. I'm thankful she escaped and overcame her suppression and was brave enough to share her story with the world. She saved herself, her daughter, and the rest of the women and children who served Colin and his bizarre beliefs he tried to pass off as religion. I'm ecstatic that after everything, Anna was able to find her happy ending.

Terrible, tragic crime and an inspiringly strong survivor
This book is a straightforward telling of terrible events. It highlights the profound confusion that can come from trauma at the hands of criminals that are family who are abusive and the time it takes to untangle that confusion. What is most striking is the incredible inner strength and perseverance of the author. There aren't rewards or medals for the efforts of survival of such crimes and yet there should be and Annabelle Forest should get one. Well done for keeping going, I think though this is a difficult book to read it inspires people to find a way out, to find justice and hold those accountable. It also demonstrates the necessity for better victim protection in the justice system; a kinder more human understanding and process was deserved by this young girl and from social services too.

Gripping, devastating, a must read
Congratulations to Annabelle on ability to stand up to this hideous monster of a man. This book is shocking, and in places graphic in its detail of sexual abuse, but I think this just assists in showing us the level of degradation that some people can sink to.
I hope she continues on her journey of positivity and I'm so glad she has seen that there ARE decent and kind people in the world

Wow!
What a page turner!!! Gripped from the outset. This book had me hooked right through to the last page. Recommended by a friend and well worth reading. I don't usually read books from this genre but was intrigued after the recommendation. Would definitely recommend to other people.

Well, maybe I don't really used to read non-fic novel.
I really feel sympathy for Annabelle and cannot believe there is such evil people in the world.(sort of not believing) Definitely a good read.

Cover says that this is about a 'Satanic Sex Cult' but it's not. While the book itself is very well written and heart-breaking, the cover is misleading. The cult itself is based on Egyptian mythology and Crowley's work/Thelema. Not on Satanism, which is never mentioned.

Story was very sad and heart retching. I am so sorry that the author had to go through all of that. However, it made for a great story and I hope she made a boat load of money from the book.

Meinung:
Annabelle gerät durch ihre Mutter in die Fänge einer Sekte, die streng nach der Kirche lebt. Colin ist der Anführer und schult alle anderen. Er ist derjeniger, der mit den Göttern redet und allen sagt, was sie zu tun und zu lassen haben.
Sich nach der Schule mit Freundinnen treffen? Das ist gegen das Gesetz der Kirche. Sowieso ist fast alles gegen das Gesetz der Kirche, weshalb Annabelle nicht die Chance hat, aus sich raus zu kommen. Sie kennt das Leben außerhalb der Kirche nicht und Colin hat alles unter Kontrolle. Annabelle arrangiert sich mit dem Leben und findet auch eine Freundin in der Gemeinschaft, die ihr sehr wichtig ist und mit der sie versucht viel Zeit zu verbringen, denn ihre Mutter schenkt ihr keinerlei Beachtung - sie ist nur noch für Colin da.
Eines heißen Nachmittags spielen Annabelle, ihre Freunde und ein paar weitere Kinder draußen, bis sich Annabelle abmeldet, weil sie was trinken möchte und es ihr draußen einfach zu heiß ist.
Sie geht ins Haus und sieht Colin vor sich stehen - sie hat ein ungutes Gefühl, aber da er der Leiter der Gemeinde ist, geht sie zu ihm hin, als er sie zu sich ruft.
Er redet ihr ein und erklärt ihr, dass die Götter mit ihm gesprochen hätten und sie jetzt alt genug sei, um an ihrem Pfad zu arbeiten, um einen höheren Platz in der Kirche zu bekommen. Jung und manipulierbar, wie Annabelle noch ist, glaubt sie ihm und willigt ihm ein. Er behauptet, die Götter würden Prüfungen von ihr verlangen und fragt, ob sie die Prüfungen bestehen möchte. Natürlich schmeichelt er ihr solange, bis Annabelle zustimmt und es kommt zur ersten Vergewaltigung.
Annabelle ist schockiert und weiß nicht, was in diesem Moment vor sich geht, allerdings bestätigt ihr Colin, dass sie es gut gemacht hätte und die Götter mit Sicherheit zufrieden mit ihr wären.
Jahr für Jahr geht es so weiter: Colin vergewaltigt sie immer und immer wieder, zwingt sie zum Oralverkehr, zum Sex mit anderen Männern und sogar mit Colin und ihrer Mutter zusammen.
Das ist das Schlimmste für Annabelle. Ihr Mutter ist überhaupt nicht mehr ihre Mutter, sondern selber auch nicht besser als Colin. Sie zwingt ihre Tochter Sex vor laufender Kamera mit einem anderen zu haben und dabei soll sie noch glücklich und zufrieden dabei aussehen.
Jahrelang geht das so weiter, bis sie von Colin schwanger wird. Sie möchte das Kind abtreiben, aber Colin besteht darauf, dass sie das nicht macht und begründet wieder mit den Göttern, die sie nicht mehr achten würden, wenn sie das Kind abtreiben würde. Also bekommt Annabelle das Kind und ist zunächst einmal glücklich damit.
Allerdings kommt Colin irgendwann zu ihr und meint, dass sie nun wieder fit genug sei, um für die Kirche arbeiten zu gehen. Diese "Arbeit für die Kirche" besteht aus Sex für Geld.
Annabelle muss mit anderen Frauen in ein Bordell und dort mit möglichst vielen Männern schlafen und darf noch nicht mal das ganze Geld behalten, sondern muss es an Colin geben, der sich damit alles mögliche kauft, obwohl er behauptet, das Geld sei für die Gemeinde.
Nach zehn Jahren der Hölle, gelingt Annabelle die Flucht und sie versucht sich ein neues Leben aufzubauen, was sich als nicht einfach gestaltet - sie ist es nicht gewohnt, selber entscheiden zu dürfen und findet sich zunächst einmal nicht zurecht in der "anderen" Welt, denn vorher kannte sie nur die Welt der Kirchengemeinde und die war so ganz anders.
Zunächst einmal möchte ich der Autorin meinen größten Respekt aussprechen - so genau und ehrlich über ihre schrecklichste Zeit in ihrem Leben zu berichten, muss gelobt werden!
Es ist bewundernswert, wie sie sich durchgekämpft hat, wie sie mit allem umgegangen ist und was sie aus ihrem Leben gemacht hat, während andere vielleicht einfach aufgegeben hätten.
Am schlimmsten fand ihr ehrlich gesagt, die Mutter von ihr. Ich kann nicht verstehen, wieso eine Mutter ihrem Kind sowas antut. Wie kann eine Mutter ihre eigene Tochter dazu zwingen, mit ihr und anderen Männer Sex zu haben? Das will einfach nicht in meinen Kopf - natürlich wurde auch sie manipuliert, aber sie war schon ein ganzes Stückchen älter als Annabelle. Sie war die Person, die Annabelle gebraucht hätte und retten könnte.
Das Buch ist wirklich hart, man sollte es nicht lesen, wenn man zu schwache Nerven hat. Ich selber musste das Buch auch immer wieder aus der Hand legen, weil mir einfach die Tränen kamen und ich nicht "mitansehen" wollte, was alles mit ihr passiert, Es kam mir an manchen Stellen falsch vor, das Buch zu lesen, denn so wurde ich zu einem Zeuge ohne, dass ich ihre helfen konnte, auch wenn ich es liebend gerne getan hätte.
Und das ist der nächste Punkt: Ich kann nicht verstehen, wieso KEINE einzige Person was getan hat oder wenigstens einmal den Mund aufgemacht hat. Ebenso kann ich nicht verstehen, wieso den Lehrern nichts weiter aufgefallen ist, als ihre schlechten Noten. Warum haben diese nicht das Gespräch mit der Mutter gesucht oder eindringlicher mit Annabelle geredet?
Natürlich, hätte sie nicht sofort alles gebeichtet, aber ich kann nicht verstehen, wieso man nichts tut und nur zuschaut.
Ich finde es wirklich gut, dass sie ihre Geschichte veröffentlicht hat, denn so gibt sie anderen Opfern eine Stimme und macht Mut nicht aufzugeben und bricht das Tabu darüber zu reden, denn es ist wichtig, dass darüber gesprochen wird und jeder Bescheid weiß, was alles so passiert und dass eigentlich nichts unmöglich ist.
Man sollte die Augen offen halten und NICHT wegsehen!

Ein hartes Buch, das einem die Wahrheit vor Augen hält, zum Nachdenken anregt, die Tränen aufsteigen lässt und einem Mut macht!

This is a shocking read. I found the story so distressing I found it hard to talk about in any depth when my husband asked me what it was about. The horror Annabelle faced in her young life was unimaginable.
The book is really well written. I liked how the opening chapter almost tells us the end of the book; it is like dedicating the book to her daughter but far more in depth than the usual short dedication found in books. The writing flows well and is certainly descriptive enough of physical events and personal feelings. I found myself wanting to read the book more and more often because I wanted the light at the end of the tunnel to come as soon as possible.
It is shocking that such people exist in the world and can get away with such atrocities so easily. Whilst I find these types of novels difficult to read and it is always hard to say I have enjoyed them, I understand the importance of awareness about such situations. It is good that Annabelle was brave enough to share her story; to not hide it from her family and peers.

Horrendous account of a Satanic sex cult based in a small Welsh cul-de-sac influenced by Crowley’s Thelema and Egyptian occultism. Recommended in the sense that it’s an eye-opener as to what some poor children are subjected to just on our quiet little roads. But it’s stomach-churning and really repellent in places so not for the faint of heart. Annabelle Forest does a good job at telling things as they were, neither over-sensationalising nor playing things down. Thankfully, those who victimised her, including her own mother, are behind bars. Though she escaped the cult, Annabelle doesn’t seem to have found the freedom, hope and redemption that are found in the true God and Father of our Lord Jesus. Maybe that will be in the sequel!

horrendous
A very difficult read, how this man and women got away with doing what they did for so long beggars belief.
Anna is a brave, resilient, courageous woman to tell her story like this, i have learnt a lot by reading her story. I hope it gives us the ability to recognise and address these situations when they arise and to better help people out of this. Thank you Anna.

Anna is a brave, resilient, courageous woman to tell her story like this, i have learnt a lot by reading her story. I hope it gives us the ability to recognise and address these situations when they arise and to better help people out of this. Thank you Anna.

I couldn't put it down
Amazing book of Annabelle's excruciating life. At times it's very difficult to read because of the suffering she had to endure, that's why it's wonderful that Annabelle has recreated her life with loving people. A true testament to her strength & devotion & I'm so glad she finally found the happiness she truly deserves

Das Buch ist wirklich nichts für schwache Nerven, das ist wirklich das Krasseste und ekelhafteste Buch was ich je gelesen habe, bin immer noch schockiert zu was Menschen teilweise in der Lage sind, musste teilweise das Buch kurz weglegen um das ganze zu verarbeiten also wirklich hat mich richtig mitgenommen

Such a well written book.
Horrific story and I am horrified that this is a true story of what happened to this lady plus many others.
What a hideous human being he was.
I hope this book brought some peace and closure to the author who is such a strong human to have not only survived this ordeal but gone on to put her own life together. Simply amazing.

it’s difficult to rate this book because it is such an uncomfortable read. I cannot believe a mother has the capacity to abuse her own child in the way Annabelle’s mum did. It’s incredible that Annabelle has been able to write about her experiences so eloquently but it does leave you questioning the world we’re living in.

Could not put this book down.
As harrowing as the story is I could not stop reading, I stayed up for hours reading to see how it all ended for her. Its hard to understand that this happened so close to home. Such a brave person to tell her storym

Such an horrific story, but captivating nonetheless. Abuse of any kind is horrific, especially when it is endured for so long.
