This book was previously published under the title "Motion for Madness.""Rey is fiercely sharp from start to finish...a madcap adventure teeming with feel-good moments, hearty fun and eccentric characters!"~ Long Island Book Reviews
From her first discovery of Nancy Drew, Kelly has had a lifelong love for mystery and tales of things that go bump in the night, especially those with a twist of humor. Through many years of working in the court reporting and closed captioning fields, writing has remained a constant. If she’s not in front of a keyboard, she can be found reading, working out or avoiding housework. She’s a member of Sisters in Crime and lives in the Northeast with her husband and a menagerie of very spoiled pets.
This cozy is a wonderful laugh-a-minute book. Jamie, and Curt's niece, Maizy, team up to solve another murder. These two characters bounce off each other so well and managed to keep me in stitches. This time Curt decides to join in, which makes for a better story. I really enjoy funny stories and this author is well known for them. I look forward to reading many more books in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It was a good mystery, there were so many suspects and twists that I didn't figure it out until it was being revealed.
I like Jamie she is the type of down on her luck character that you can’t help but feel for and you can relate to her on such a normal level.
I love Maizy I absolutely love her. She may need a spin off all her own lol I would so read that lol She is hilarious and her weird view of the world from the mind of a teenager. I just love her. I want her in every book in this series.
I liked that Curt was more involved in this book. I liked him before but I like that he got in this one and stepped up and helped. Jamie and Curt are cute together, if only they'd move into something and stop messing around. Lol I hope he keeps helping and being more involved.
It is a good read and I mystery with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and unsure who the killer is until the very end. I completely recommend the Jamie Winters Mysteries for everybody. You won’t be disappointed.
I like that this author sticks to the "cozy mysteries" formula of the other books in this series. Jamie still works a dead-end job, which she describes with dry humor and defeated sarcasm. She still has a relationship with her landlord, and now he's joining in on the murder solving. If you like the other books in this series, you'll like this one.
Loved the idea of Jamie struggling to make ends meet and then all the complications that just happen around her. If not for good friends she would be in a world of hurt. I have read all three books and enjoy the fixes she gets into and out of. A fun read that will leave a smile on your face.
WOW I was completely surprised by who the killer was. I totally thought it was someone else. I really like how things are developing between Jamie and Curt.
Expect to laugh a lot! Motion for Madness is the third full length book in the series, and there were two short novellas published in collections as well. The story revolves around a secretary for a law firm, Jamie Winters. Jamie has the oddest bosses and keeps getting involved with murders because of working at the law firm. She lives in the second floor apartment of her"boyfriend's" house, and although it is obvious something is going on, the story isn't about her sex life (or lack thereof.) When murders happen, Jamie feels obliged to try and solve them, and boyfriend Curt and his neice Maizy help her.
Maizy is a hoot! She is a typical teenager-anxious to get her driver's license, painting her nails, having multiple piercings, and dying her hair blue. However she is also a very smart and a very clever investigator. She comes up with plans and implements them without ruffling a hair on her head. Her backpack always has what she or Jamie need. She rents cars (without a license!) that for $15 extra she doesn't have to return. In short, Jamie summed it up, "I want to be just like her when I grow up."
Between Jamie's internal dialogues and questionable decisions, and Maizy, expect to laugh a lot as you read. Somehow when all is said and done, the crime is solved and out intrepid trio are all still alive to tell the tale.
As with all series, it is better if you start at the beginning and read all the books in order. There are references to prior cases (in the first 2 books) that will mean so much more if you have read the other books. However, if you are determined to jump in at book #3 as a starting point, the story itself is totally not reliable on previous books. Reliant or not, it is simply more fun to read them all and in order. I recommend
Howard Dennis was the lawyer for Kay Culverson, a talk show host for Dishing with Kay. Kay is angry with Howard because she lost her court case. Kay asked Howard to meet her at the studio the next day because she thought the makeup girl was poisoning her. Jamie goes with Howard to see Kay at the studio the next day. Kay is going to send a revealing letter to Howard's wife and Howard threatens her then storms out. The next day Jamie gets a call from Maizy, Curt's niece, that Kay is dead and the police think Howard did it. Maizy thinks her and Jamie should investigate. Curt will only go along with this if they allow him to accompany them. Curt is Jamie's landlord and the current interest of her dreams. Jamie goes to work the next day and Howard is not there. His wife calls and asks Jamie to prove him innocent. As Jamie and Maizy start to investigate, Maizy's plans cause mayhem! Kelly Rey has written a mystery series with humor. I enjoy Maizy and all the characters at the law firm. An enjoyable book with mystery, mayhem and many laughs along the way present a formula for success.
So first, I always enjoy reading this series. There is just something about it, that despite it's flaws, you leave with a good reading experience. That being said, I have issues with a few things, that I can't seem to get over with. So... Maizy. I have issues with how her character is handled, and I will leave it at that, because I don't know if it would be considered a spoiler.
