"So, Mickey, how was, Uh, was it Uruguay?""PARAguay, actually."-A common conversation I have with people who ask me about the Peace Corps in Paraguay. In February 2010, I left the United States to work as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay. For 2 years, I lived in a town of about 400 people, and worked as a local reading specialist at several area schools. The Peace Corps experience is hard to sum up in just one sentence. "The Peace Corps was Good" just does not do two years justice. While I was in the Peace Corps, with a family of 13 people on a farm.-Chewed Tobacco for the First time with a father of 19 and forgot to spit-Accidentally told my host mom something very dirty in Guarani-Helped build a health Post-Created a book loaning system at the elementary school-Fought pigs in my backyard who tried to break into my garden. If you're curious about the daily life of a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay, or just want to learn a little more about my first hand experience with Paraguayan culture, this book is for you. Gracias por leer che ra'akuera! (Thanks for reading!)
This was a great read for a soon to be PCV in Paraguay. Made me feel even more excited for this adventure. Loved the fun and intimate feel of the stories. Would recommend for other volunteers.
