He was my fallen angel. Beautiful, twisted, imperfect. He opened my eyes to the truth about myself, of how the kind of love I craved was different from everyone else’s. Pain was the sweetest agony, cruel and jealousy the most exquisite foreplay. He was my sadist, and I was his perfect match.
I wasn't sure about this book as it's quite different from her other books, but I still liked it. Even though I didn't like the characters preferences it was still a well written story!
For Angelo definitely has a different vibe from the books I've read by the author in the past. It took me a bit longer to fall into the story, but as with all of Ms. Tee's books, the time flew while I was reading. My enjoyment of her books comes from the goodness of the angsty drama she creates. In this story, Lane wants and needs the angst. Her love depends on it, and for me, I found that more difficult to relate to. But that said, it was a crazy kind of love that worked for Lane and Angelo.
So I either really like Marian Tee's books or I love them. Her writing style is a bit over dramatic but I don't mind. Her books are full of bad angst and her characters frequently like to talk to each other or have an entire dialogue with each other through their eyes or looks; but I'm use to it. I liked the first part of the book, but the last 2/3 of it was painful for me. There were a few things I didn't like.
Nellie, the heroine, has a rare phobia of rich people. She doesn't like rich people because of her bad childhood. I was fine with this because there are some people who really does have this problem. But of course she has to go and fall in love with one of the richest guy, Angelo Valencia. They saw each other and it was love at first sight. But then due to a misunderstanding (Nellie's co-worker told Angelo that Nellie was his girlfriend) Angelo stayed away from Nellie for 6 months while she kept waiting for the day for him to notice her. Eventually, after 6 months, Angelo decided to claim Nellie. Yayyyy! This was all fine for me; I have a high tolerance for books because I love reading so much :) Now here comes my problem. Angelo and Nellie goes to a coffee shop to talk. Angelo informed Nellie that she is a masochist out of nowhere. It was their second encounter. Every time Angelo saw Nellie, he would walk the other way because he was trying to avoid temptation; so he doesn't even know her when he tells her this. He tells her that she's a masochist and she just accepts it. The conversation went a bit like this: Angelo: So I think I should tell you that I think that your a masochist Nellie: OMG I am! Angelo: Sorry this is such a shock Nellie: OK She didn't question it or anything, she just agreed with him! But this wasn't a BDSM book. I felt like the author just threw the terms masochist and sadist into the book for shits and giggles. Nellie called Angelo a sadist all the freaking time throughout the book. No one whipped out a paddle or a collar and there wasn't even spanking involved. His idea of "punishment" was to put piles of money in front of her (cause she's scared of rich people) or make her lick his milkshake mustache off or surrounding himself with gorgeous women while she watches so he can hurt her. And every time Nellie met someone rich, which was all the freaking time because Angelo had filthy rich friends, she either screamed, fainted or ran away to hid behind something.
This book was really bad for me. I was either skimming the pages so I can get it over with as fast as possible or I was rolling my eyes because it was so ridiculous. I really like Marian Tee but I don't recommend the book.
This book is different from the others, yes. But how can I say it, FOR ANGELO is also the same like the previous books she's written. I like most of her books; the angst, the happy ever after, who wouldn't anyway. I started off reading her books years ago and thought; it felt like I'm reading a Japanese manga. The antic of the characters, the comical humor, the craziness. Sure they are entertaining, but somehow, after reading the same things over and over, the billionaires, the heroines with unrequited love, someone with mental disorders, it's just... Whatever, I'll just reread Kellion.
I can not comprehend or conceive this type of love. I really did not think much of the female main character, Lane, words cannot describe her. And the male, Angelo, was a nasty bully. If you get off sexually getting treated like dirt this is your book.
I couldn't get into this read, not sure why. I was looking forward to reading about Angelo, but at about 20% I had to put it down and read something else for awhile. Sorry this couldn't connect to this read, I got bored reading it.
loved this book..i have been a fan of Marian Tee but this book is what sealed it for me...this book delves into the deeper and darker aspects and forms of love which is not accepted by the soceity but which is still pure and deep...more than you would expect..loved the book!!
*received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Pardon my French, but these characters were fucking crazy. I liked it. 3.5 stars.
The first few pages were interesting, and I liked Nellie, someone I wish I saw more of since she had such an impact on Lane's life in the book for two very different instances. Angelo was a completely different man, and threw me for a loop because I'd just read the books he was previously in, and I won't lie, it was a bit jarring. I liked it, but it still had me questioning him because he'd never shown how he really was until now. He went from caring in Unwillingly Yours to a complete jerk and I liked it, but it didn't come off as well as I'd have liked...?
I think it was the way it was written. The author's style of writing was different here in comparison to the way she wrote in her earlier books. While I enjoyed her new writing style, I did miss the rawness of her words and I think it would've better fit the execution of Angelo and Lane, both characters who are raw with their love and true natures. Not exactly a Dom and sub, they were still characters with a lot of complexity and the tone of the story kept me a hair's width away from getting to know them whole-heartedly.
I think it's safe to say that I'm not a masochist (at least not the kind that Lane is) because I couldn't connect with her as much as I did with Angelo, but even with him, he still felt lost to me in a fog. The story was entertaining, the plot was a bit hazy, and the dialogue between them was a bit repetitive at times. I wanted less use of the word 'sadist' and more action to tell me without telling me that he was a sick and delicious bastard. I did get it at some moments (and trust me, those were- *crosses eyes*-) and although I'd have liked to have them all the time, this whole setup was still a thrill for me.
Whether I'm reading too much into it or not, I felt this to be a clever ploy of the author. I felt mildly disconnected from the characters reading this and only finally felt them when they finally admitted to each other that they loved one another. It was by that point in the book that I actually started to feel the things all of Tee's books make me feel.
The ending reconfirmed that they're both crazy (they're my favorite crazy couple now), and the style of writing really brings that aspect out when you're reading this. It's weird. At times I had a moment of clarity that this was what it was like to be in Lane's crazy thoughts, bouncing all over the place but feeling every one with authenticity. Just weird, man.
Overall, this was a pretty good read. I'd have liked to see more of the mundane stuff to balance their radical relationship, like actually seeing the things that details smoothed over. Started off interesting and got more in depth towards the end, though the chapter of the climax was a little sad and maddening. This is a recommend because you'll either hate it or like this insane couple as much as I did.
In For Angelo (Full-Length Standalone Italian Billionaire Romance), by the amazing Marian Tee, we get to see what happened to Angelo, first seen in the Love Moderately Series as one of two men in love with Jaike. I won't tell you what happened but you may guess the ending since Angelo has his own book. But that's all you'll get from me! You don't have to read the Love Moderately Series first but it definitely wouldn't hurt.
Anyway, I digress. As Ms. Tee admits, this book was a bit different from her usual as the main heroine, Lane Peterson has some serious mental health issues in the form of Plutophobia which is the fear of rich people. For a billionaire series writer, this is definitely a new angle!
Angelo Valencia is an alumni of Christopoulos University who returns to become a mentor for the students since he was a former Student Council President. But I am getting the cart before the horse a bit.
Lane and Angelo meet when he passes by the convenience store that she is working at and mesmerizes her by his "blatantly wicked" and "defiantly immoral" laugh. Helping her after she oh so gracefully trips and falls, she then notices just how beautiful this man is before her. The "static electricity" that occurs between then when they first touch is definitely not an accurate description in Lane's mind. From here on out, it is more like a spell has been cast over the two of them as fate and everything else comes into play to bring these two together with a third party trying their damnedest to pull them apart.
Overall I really enjoyed the book, just as much as I enjoyed all of Ms. Tee's writings. I was very happy to see that Angelo got his own time in the spotlight after the Love Moderately Series and look forward to many more books from Ms. Tee!
So yes another billionaire book, even though a little different from others I wanted to love this book more, but I just felt I didn't get enough out of the story line and on the flip side of that it was rushed as well leaving me lost and confused.
Lane and the Italian CEO, Angelo start a very whirl wind relationship but I couldn't engage much with the characters, I wanted to read more about what was making them tick, understand them more, plus when other characters were introduced into the story, again I was lost to their purpose in the story or I wasn't given enough to tie them into the storyline.
I have always enjoyed Marion's books, but I would love for this book to be re worked and turned into what could be an outstanding read, there is so much in this story to be told.
I have to say this is different from Ms. Tee's previous books. Don't worry, it still has sexy dominate men. Angelo is an open sadist. He has special parties that allows others like him to be themselves. Angelo falls for Lane, he shows her the true meaning of being a masochist. When you read this book, remember to look at it from a sadist and masochist point of view. If you do, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. It is full of love and commitment. The humor in the story will make you smile. Be prepared to cry in chapter 22 and blubber in 23. Reading this story made me realize one thing, I must be a masochist like Lane........ I get joy when I cry while reading Ms. Tee's stories ;)
You're introduced to Angelo in the books about Derek and Jaike. For Angelo shows a new side of him and answers some of the questions I had about Angelo and Jaike. This book is definitely not for everyone. There are parts that really bothered me, but I reminded myself that different people have different needs; what's good for some is not good for others. All in all, I liked the story of Angelo and Lane. As usual, there were tears and, with this one, a little bit of discomfort. If you're a fan of Marian's love stories, you don'twant to miss this one.
DIFFERENT FROM ANYTHING I HAD READ, BUT EXTRAORDINARY BEAUTIFUL!!!
OMG with this story I just realize I'm a book masochistic! I crave in every book that time when they broke your heart and ache so much you can't bear it, cause then I know it's going to be beautiful!!! Lane's and Angelo's love story is not perfect and neat, not cruel but twisted and hard to understand. It's the way they love each other. They are the perfect match! I love all books from Ms. Marian Tee and this one, although so different from anything she had written, was no exception!!! Simply beautiful!!!
I have read all of Marian's books and this one is by far my least favorite. To me, this book was not up to par with the other books she has written. I was excited to read the spinoff book from Jaike and Derek's story...Unwilling Yours to see what happened with Angelo. Very disappointed in this book and hope Marian doesn't write more books like this one. Just didn't feel the connection with the main characters or the subject matter.
Unbelievably heart wrenching love story that leaves you on the edge of your seat. Wonderful writing by Marian Tee I could not put it down. There are parts I wanted to weep but was also happy that Lane and Angelo's love grew. Fair warning this story is not for everyone, but keep in mind that they love only the way they can understand. Don't judge how others love because everyone loves differently.
As always Ms. Tee captured my attention from the beginning of the book. it was indeed different form her other books but it's just shows her capacity to write and make it feel new and different. Loved the characters Lane had challenges but not at any point I thought of her as weak and the my Angel eeep!!! he was absolutely Sweet. Ms. Tee. await any book or series you write oh and Steel March can't wait to read his book
I'm happy to see Angelo finally get over Jaike. And fine the woman for him alone in Lane. Keep up the good work Ms Tee !!!!! I hope you'll have another book out soon!!!
This book was okay. I had higher hopes when this book first came out. There's something about Angelo I just couldn't really accept. He's a great character but he falls flat to me. Lane is a unique character but again I found her falling short. This story wasn't one of my favorites by Marian.
Oh wow I couldn't put this book down and it's after midnight now. This is the second book I have read by Marian Tee and I loved it. Please do yourselves a favour and read it too.
Dammit tear! Get back in there! I loved this book. It was so good. I couldn't put it down for a second. I binge read the whole thing then went to see if any of her other books were like this.
