Quick read, with practical guidance for buying a small business. I recently read “Mainstreet Millionaire” by Codie Sanchez, and this book fills in some of the gaps to be aware of as you go through the process.

While there are a number of ratings, including some puzzling one and two star ones, there are no reviews, so I guess I'll have to be the first to sing the praises of this relatively short but intensely useful guide that Ed Pendarvis has penned.

There are starting to finally be a number of books on buying and selling businesses in the marketplace, but there are still far fewer than there should be.

Ed's book is focused on Main Street/Middle Market transactions, and probably tilted a bit towards those who are looking at lifestyle businesses, but the principles he enunciates are helpful at every level of transaction.

He discusses value drivers of a business, financing, due diligence, and how much income a business owner can reasonably be expected to make.

One particular idea of his that I really love is that the purpose of a business is to make a living for the owner and if it's not doing that, it's probably not a business.

A good overview

I haven't read a book that has to do eith buying small busineses before this one. I was curious to know more and the author makes it easy. This is a good start to know what to look for in a small business if you're I terested in buying one. The book can be read in a couple of hours so it is easy to get through.
