I started this book because I wanted to keep following the story from The Price of Fame, but I soon hit some problems. During the last book I was getting a bit tired of the number of times they tell each other "I love you", but actually it was the whole story that I struggled with.
Part of the problem maybe because I don't understand the American political system and I certainly didn't understand Kate's job which appeared to be a simple press officer, why was it so important and controversial?
My other difficulty is I don't know what it was like to be gay in the late 80s in America. I find the reaction to Kate and Jen’s relationship difficult to comprehend, why is there so much interest, this is New York surely they are much more interesting things going on.
Kate and Jen’s relationship seems to generating more furore than the Cuban Missile crisis, I keep trying to follow the story, but all I can think about is that all this fuss is just ridiculous and for me, given my limited experience, unbelievable.

A big part of the story revolves around finding out about the bad guys then doing nothing about it until it all goes wrong, this starts with Kate and continues during the prison riot with Peter. As a device to keep a story going it is definitely not one of my favourites.

Having had my moan there were some aspects of the story that I did like and it definitely improved towards the end. If possible I would have given 2.5 stars and I will try the next book in the series.

Way too many references to "her lover" and calling each other "love". The repetition is irritating and the relationship is way too saccharine for my tastes. I keep hoping it will get better since I want to read book 4. I guess I will soldier on through.

Kate and Jay Book 2 in 1986 and 1987.

This book had some exciting moments. A wedding, prison riot, attempted murder, crooked politicians, an ass whooping, and the list goes on. The MC’s exchanged I love you a half a million times (that’s most of the dialogue between them but the book is so packed, who cares) and some bad guys go to prison. It held my attention from beginning to end (except the I love you parts) and moved quickly. The secondary characters are all interesting. A wise lady doctor, a James Bond security expert guy, print news reporters, an honest politician, an ex girlfriend, and a monkey.

I recommend book 1 and 2 of this series.

This is the second book of this series. This book is a romance only in that it continues the story of Kate and Jay and their life together. This book begins a few months after the first novel. I would categorize it more as a thriller. After reading all 4 novels, this one is my favorite. Kate is working at her new job and things go awry…I read this book in 2 days because I didn’t want to put it down.

I absolutely love this series.

This is a thriller, full of danger, suspense and so many twists. How could they ever get out of this mess? It was for me unpredictable how this story would end and it kept me on the edge of my seat. There was not only drama but also true love. I love Kate and Jay and I can't wait for the sequel. Lynn Ames has shown again what a great writer she is.

Interesting story, but the quality of the writing and dialogue could have been better.
