13 short tales of suspense and horror without a dud in the collection. Mr Underwood has a great talent in making the stories interesting from the first sentence. All of the tales are easily read in short time periods when you don't necessarily have the time to jump into something in depth. Everything from a real monster of a wrestler, to a haunted painting, and a few tales of a cowboy who seems to get caught up in the supernatural quite a bit. Highly recommended.

This really was perfect for me. A bunch of short but sweet horror themed stories. Felt like I was watching a horror anthology film. I would love to hear more someday.

Dr. Gangrene is a horror host from Tennessee who came up with this fun little collection - perfect for Halloween time.

My 3 favorites:

The Wrath of Akmonhanen - I love a good mummy tale! This is perfect for fans of the beloved Brendan Fraser Mummy movies. Here Jack, a RAF pilot in WWII is shot down over Egypt, where he discovers German military searching for a tomb home to a magical object. Read for the good and gruesome Nazi deaths and a bittersweet ending.

Hiccup - Doug's former classmate, Jefferson, shows up in his office with a problem - he's accidentally become a human time machine. And now he's taking Doug with him. This was fun and gleefully insane.

Family Plot - Marguerite is the last servent left to truly despicable old man Abe Kingsley, who has driven away (or murdered) everyone else. Satisfying story of vengeance and bad people getting their just desserts.

Dr. Gangrene also includes brief horror host introductions to each story, adding to the Tales from the Crypt vibe. This is a short collection with entertaining stories for fans of campy horror who want a break from darker, more serious horror reads.

Straight outta Shackle Island, the good Doctor lays out a fine collection of throwback tales of terror, several of which are as good as any I'd read lately. Once a late night staple on Nashville TV, we don't get to see Larry on TV anymore--sad!--but this volume should keep the scareheads off their feed a while. Who knew the guy could write too? Kinda hope we'll see another collection sometime very soon, if indeed we don't get to see the return of Doc to the small screens. You are missed!
