He thinks the female driver is working with a east coast mob boss and wants her dead. He orders Nick to follow her back to New York and kill her. Jake doesn't think Anna is working with a mob boss, but knows she's hiding something. He knows if he doesn't agree to kill her, Moretti will send someone else to complete the job. Nick falls for Anna before he knows who and want she really is. Together and with the help of the east coast crime boss, they clear her name and get justice.

I first started reading Vanessa Vale's western stories.......LOVE THEM!! I fell for the erotic stories hook, line and sinker. When I was ask to read "Relentless" written by her as Vanessa Dare I jumped on it...... duh, no brainer. I love her sexy hot as hell westerns, so I thought hell yay I want to read the story. I'm sooooo glad I did. This book has so much suspense, action and twists in the story. It was extremely hard to put it down. I will admit the sex scenes are not like the sexy erotic scenes as in her westerns, they're softer and sensuous. This book is well written and action packed.

I hope Elizabeth and Ander has a story, and if not......hint hint ;)

I am a huge fan of this author’s historical western erotic series under the name Vanessa Vale and I jumped at the chance to read this standalone romantic suspense. If I was to sum up this book in one word it would be riveted. The story hooked me from beginning to end.

The last thing you need when you’re trying to keep below the radar is for a dead body to turn up in the trunk of your rental car. Unfortunately, this is the luck of the draw for Anna Scott.

Anna Scott didn’t exist until twelve years ago. She fears for her safety if discovered. Now she has the police and the mafia on her tail. With no one to turn to who can help save her….

Enter Jake Griffin, undercover cop with Denver PD. Currently deep undercover with the Moretti crime family; can he be the hero she needs? After all it’s just not her life at stake.

I was literally on the edge of my seat reading this book. I’d put it down and think “No, just one more chapter!” I devoured it in two sittings and if I could’ve gotten away with ignoring RL responsibilities that would’ve been reduced to one.

The attraction between Anna and Jake is instantaneous and their relationship grows throughout the book as they begin to trust in one another as secrets are revealed and truths unravelled. For Jake, his resolve is almost immediate:

“It was about being a man. And she was going to be my woman. She just didn’t know it yet.”

I felt like a voyeur at times lol:

“Kissing Anna was like coming home. It felt right, as if it was the most perfect thing to do.”

I loved ‘watching’ Anna blossom under Jake’s care and love. I really felt these two were destined for each other.

The intrigue and suspense was intricately woven by the author throughout the story right up to the climatic end. Don’t even get me started on the sexual tension! Sheesh!!

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this gripping suspense filled read. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Elizabeth and Anders get a book. I’d love to read what happened to them – hint hint!

Steamy Romantic Suspense at its Finest!

Undercover cop meets puzzling but tantalizing woman – neither is what they appear to be and neither can be totally honest with the other though they are drawn to one another like magnets.

From the first time Grif sees Anna he is hooked by something about her – he likes puzzles and she seems to be an intriguing one. Anna is cool calm and collected though unable or unwilling to trust anyone – until she meets “Nick Malone” (AKA Grif) and takes a chance that he can help her accomplish something that she feels must be done. Their relationship has its ups and downs that include harsh words, explosive situations, interactions with people working for crime families, time spent with family members, revenge, steamy encounters and a whole lot more.

I loved Anna and Grif. Both were strong intelligent individuals that become even better as a couple. I stayed up till 2am last night trying to finish the book but finally had to turn in and finish it this morning. It was a superb story and I look forward to reading more work by this author soon!

Thank you to Vanessa Vale who gave me a copy of this book through NetGalley.

NOTE: This author writes under more than one moniker. If you are interested in other books by her check out both Jennifer Zane and Vanessa Dare. This book was also published as a serial under the title “Hot Pursuit” by Jennifer Zane.)

I’m always leery reading a new author not knowing what to expect from them. Well I need not have worried as this book has one of the best first chapters I’ve ever read. I even wanted to go back and re-read it – it was that good!!!

I didn’t know going in this was a serial series. This was just part 1 which was a little bit of a bummer because the story is captivating and the main characters were so intriguing that I don’t want to wait for the rest of the story.

Another big surprise was the heroine Anna Scott. Sometimes heroines in RS books are TSTL or just annoying with the trouble they manage to get themselves into. Well this little lady can take care of herself and not in a bad ass type of way. I don’t want to give too much away about her as I think you should experience Anna reading the book.

Now onto the hero Jake who’s undercover with a crime family in Colorado with the name Nick. Mmmm hot hot. The chemistry between Jake/Nick and Anna was off the charts but I liked the author didn’t rush them right into bed especially with Anna history plus there is the fact they are both lying to the other about who they really are.

This book only scratched the surface of the story and I cant wait for the next installment.

Anna Scott isn't the person most people think she is, but then Nick Malone isn't the man that Anna believes him to be, so they are both surprised when they learn the truth. Anna needs help saving the half-sister she has never met, and thinks Nick is the man for the job. Nick just wants to save Anna. They will have to trust each other if they want to survive Anna's family. Exciting, sexy, and wonderfully suspenceful with fascinating twists in the plot. I thought this book was fantastic, and I loved it!

I read and review a lot of books. This one was given to me by a friend and I was hooked by the second page!
Note: this review contains spoilers!
Anna is just so likable that I wanted to be her friend and help her out. I loved how the story switched back and forth between Anna’s and Grif’s points of view. I was able to learn so much more about each of the characters that way. And since the action was so fast paced, the reader needed background information fast too. And the characters were so believable. Anna’s imaginary eye rolling cracked me up every time.
I had plenty of other things that I should have been doing, but I read Relentless almost straight through. I did sleep last night, but I picked it up first thing this morning to finish it!
Great characters, great story lines, fast paced, steamy romance. And Anna; an absolute gem!

This book felt like a never-ending emotional rollercoaster. Anna/Olivia has had a lousy life with a father who didn't love her and sent her away at the age of 6. Then, there was a horrible marriage and an accusation of murder. It's no wonder she's in hiding. When she meets Nick/Grif she's attracted even though she thinks he's a bad man. He thinks she's a bad woman so they have a lot to get past.

They are both trying to figure out why they're attracted to a bad person and they're willing to ignore that to be together. There are a lot of bumps, and plenty of heat, intrigue and danger.

It may not surprise anyone that I am reviewing another VV book. Cause she is awesome! This stand-alone book was awesome from start to finish! Anna Scott is a woman running from her past and the cops when she joins a friend of hers in Denver for a wedding. Where she becomes the main suspect in a murder. CRAZY! Jake Griffin is an undercover cop that is trying to help bring down Denver's crime family. Feelings are had and the realization of Anna's past is crazier than I thought could happen. Another must-read from Vanessa! -Brier

This is the first book I have read by Vanessa Vales and I can tell you I am hooked! This book has it all! The plot will have you hook from the very beginning when an innocent woman has a dead body in her trunk and the pages do not stop turn while she is falling in love with the man that is supposed to kill her and keep her safe at the same time. This one definitely needs to be added to your TO READ list!!!

I enjoyed this mystery. Anna is a young woman running away from her ex-husband, Todd and her father her traded her to Todd. Gif is a man on a mission to save Anna and to make her ex and her father pay for their deception.

Anna has a half sister Elizabeth that is about to be sacrificed to Todd by their father and Anna must stop it. She goes back to California to stop the marriage and to save Elizabeth but there is a hit on her life.

Different from her other books.

This book is a lot different than Vanessa Vale's other books but it was a really good read. I couldn't put it down. Most of her books are reverse harem romance, most set in Montana. This book is a romance but it is also a mystery/thriller. I don't think you will be disappointed in this book of you like those three genres.

Wow! A thrilling journey for love and justice
From Denver to New York to San Francisco goes the path that Anna and Grif walk together. Instant attraction follows a quirk of fate that lands Anna in the eye of the police and the mob. A thrilling story, fast paced, steamy love, good for some laughter and with some surprises thrown in. Couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended.

This is so full of smut. Like too much. However, the storyline kept me hooked!! I loved the characters and the character development and the ending was just perfect. There was a slight twist that was also great that I didn’t expect. Would be a 4/5 or 4.5/5 with less nipple talk lol……

I gave up on this book entirely too quickly the first time I picked it up.

And honestly? I couldn't tell you why.

Because the second time I picked it up, I was completely engrossed and didn't wan't to put it down.

Ms. Dare's use of descriptions keeps the reader drawn in to the story. Have you ever truly paid attention to a traffic cop when he's pulled you over? After you read the description when it happens to Anna, you may just go, "Oh, yeah...". The descriptions used paint a great picture, but they also were strategically placed in areas where Anna is having moments of panic -- and the descriptions very much portray her meticulous organization of thoughts as she tries to keep calm.

Anna was a strong character. Right from the beginning, you know she has a dark past -- she refers to it slightly again and again, without giving the reader true clues. She holds herself extremely well though -- something that undercover detective, Jake Griffin, reads on her the first time he sees her and she's being interrogated.

Grif was a great character. I loved him -- I usually like a well written alpha. He'd been undercover for a mob boss for the last six-plus months, and he's found he's at the point where he has a difficult time differentiating between his persona and who he truly is. But the moment he's pulled in the back and asked to read Anna through the two-way mirror, his skills as a detective come across the pages, leaving little to no doubt about this man's ability in law (even when he fears he's been deep too long).

My heart hammered against my ribs as if trying to escape.
It wasn't twelve years ago. I wasn't eighteen anymore...

This was a fast-paced romantic suspense. Finding a dead body in your rental car and being questioned for it, when you already have fears of being found again, certainly will do that. When Grif's undercover world collides with Anna's safety, the real fun begins.

Like I said, I honestly could not tell you why I had a hard time starting this book the first time -- I re-read the synopsis and gave it a second chance, and absolutely fell in love with these characters. The writing style, the descriptions, the plots, the hero/ine... everything was well written and well executed. I've not read any other titles by Ms. Dare, but I'll definitely look into them.

3 stars.

Eh. It was alright but it was LONG. This is something I don't say often, but this probably could have been split into 2 books.

There are a few issues I had. There is a lot of excess. For example, sometimes we completely repeat what just happened when the characters change POV. Most of it isn't needed. We don't always need the other person's point of the same event when we can already infer their reaction or whatnot from the first character's POV. It ended up being wasted space and brings us backwards in the plot instead of forward. If it doesn't provide anything new then we don't need it.

Also, time and time again we hear Anna repeating how lonely she's been, how she didn't knw what to do etc etc. It quickly became repetitive and boring. It was consistently given in the same manner too. At times it was like the same passages had just had been copied and pasted and then tweaked a tad.

Overall, again, it was alright. It isn't mind-blowing, but it isn't sucky either.

I love romantic suspense because it blends two of my favorite subjects: romance and action (in and out of the bedroom). Relentless starts off on an excellent note, blending an immediately likeable heroine with some WTF is going on moments when a dead guy pops up in her car trunk. Enter a good guy who looks all sorts of bad.
Despite the attractiveness of the main characters there is no deep drama or chemistry. Fresh and exciting opener never expounds into something suspenseful or even sensual (despite the love scenes). Convoluted plot of deceitful daddies, runaway brides, mob ties, and undercover cops does not blend well. Unfortunately, no butter was melted.

Anna goes out for fun for the first time in twelve years of hiding from her past and gets pulled over with a dead body in the truck of her rental car. Jake, an undercover cop, wants to find out her secret as she has no life earlier than age 18, and she is the first woman in while to interest him. Then crime boss Moretti put a hit out on her and Jake is sent to kill her. Now he has to find a way to get the girl and keep her alive. This book is full of intrigue and secrets, you won't be disappointed. The author has written great characters with a lot of background. Hope to see more of the sisters. Great Read! I received this book as an arc for a honest review.

Anna Scott is not the person that most people think she is, but then again neither is Nick Malone he is not the man that Anna has believed he is, so both get big surprise when they each learn the truth.

Anna needs help to save the half-sister that she has never seen let alone met, Anna believes that Nick is the very man for the job. Nick just wants to help and save beautiful Anna.

They will have to learn to trust one another if they want to survive Anna's family..... and come out alive.

Once again The authors brings us the most exciting, gripping and sexy, suspenseful romance with some fascinating twists which will leave you wanting more and more.
