Sons of Templar MC #2.5

Outside the Lines

Rate this book
My life’s not easy. I’ll tell you that now. It’s not neat. I don’t fit into society the way most people expect me to and I don’t color studiously between the lines, outside the lines is where I reside. The fringes of society is where I found my place, with the Sons of Templar MC. The life they lived gave me everything I wanted, and everything I needed. Most importantly, it gave me something I’d been lacking for over a decade—family. A place to belong.

Club girl—that was my title. There were other words for what I was, but I preferred the less derogatory version. Sure, I’d love to be an Old Lady. It’s the dream. But, as someone who escaped into fantasy worlds when life got too much, I knew the difference between dreams and reality. I had resigned myself to the fact, I’d always belong to the club. It didn’t mean I didn’t crave one man in particular to claim me. To put me on the back of his bike and ride off into the sunset with the man who’d captured my heart the first day I saw him—Hansen. The dream where he’d finally see me and make me his, existed strictly in Macy’s world of wonder. Until now. Until somehow my fantasy world and reality world collided and he looks at me in the way I’d dreamt of for a year.

Fairy tales usually had neat and happy endings once the hero and heroine got together. This wasn’t a fairy tale. Hansen wasn’t your traditional hero and I was the furthest you could get from a heroine. I feared my past might dictate my future. That my world outside the lines would go from messy to complete disaster.

Anne Malcom has been an avid reader since before she can remember, her mother responsible for her book addiction. It started with magical journeys into the world of Hogwarts and Middle Earth, then as she grew up her reading tastes grew with her. Her obsession with books and romance novels in particular gave Anne the opportunity to find another passion, writing. Finding writing about alpha males and happily ever afters more fun than reading about them, Anne is not about to stop any time soon.

this is not set in the main MC chapter that the rest of the series is set but in New Mexico, and is about 2 characters we met in book 2, just after Amy was saved.

Have to be honest, I have never read an MC book where the heroine has been a club girl before, and wondered how I would enjoy it.

And I actually really liked the heroine and how strong she was, and you admired her, for getting to where she was and feeling like she had found her own family and forged her own past.

And Hansen was great, once he decided that he could no longer stay away from her he was ALL in/ And he did not stay away for reasons that you might think, to him, she was too good for the life of an Old Lady or any life connected to the MC. He never throws her past in her face at all.

You found yourself really rooting for these two and happy that they found each other.

4 1/2 stars. Anne Malcom made something I normally wouldn’t touch transform into a great novella. Not only did she make me like this book but to genuinely like the heroine Macy and root for her. Of course like all of her books I loved the hero Hansen, he was perfect for Macy. I never felt like this book was rushed or like the story lacked anything, yes this is a novella but it had everything I would want in any book I read. A pet peeve of mine when reading novellas is when the author takes too long to get to the pint (if you only have so many pages to waste them on unimportant things can ruin a book in my mind.) and that isn’t the case at all in this book.

Macy has no problem with what she is she hasn’t had the best life and her position in the club has given her something she has always wanted, a family. Macy has noticed Hansen since she first saw him it’s been hard to do anything but notice him when he is around, but that is very obviously one sided. Till one night after a party Macy is cleaning up and Hansen shows he may not be indifferent to Macy, only to walk away and leave Macy even more confused. Now indifferent isn’t the word Macy would use to describe how Hansen feels but it doesn’t seem to be good either.
Hansen has noticed Macy not only the first day he saw her but ever day after but he’s left her alone for good reasons till those reasons just don’t seem to matter anymore. But life in the club life isn’t like others and Macy’s life is anything but normal, and that might just cause more problems than they can handle.

Also to add an epilogue is a cherry on top of the Sunday to me, and something that I really love(ok I love them all the time) but is also appreciated in a novella. This epilogue was the perfect ending to their story it was so perfect and so sweet. I really enjoyed reading Hansen and Macy’s story and watching them fall in love but I really loved that we get even more in this book and the story completely drew me in. I couldn’t have asked for more from this book it was just another example of the talent Anne Malcom has.

**Thank you Anne Malcom for this ARC/Beta read for my honest review.

Loved this one. Hanson was amazing, ignoring her past and accepting her as she was. I love how strong his love for her is. I'm hoping this may become a spin off series!!

I received an ebook of this novel from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it. Thank you Anne Malcom!

Who knew you could pack so much into a short novella. Who knew a novella could make me cry, make my heart race, and give me all the damn feels? Not me. I shouldn’t be surprised though, you know why? Because this was an Anne Malcom book. That’s why.

Macy is such a complex character. She has a dark past, present insecurities, yet still tries to see the goodness in every situation. She’s also a cute geek, and a witty girl with no filter. She had me captivated from the first page.

Hanson is biker man to a T. She is rough, manly, and rugged, yet we also see his pain, his sweetness, and his gentleness. It was so much fun reading about his two sides. Again, another complex character.

Anne Malcom has a way with words. She is able to transmit information effortlessly and concisely. She doesn’t need many words to say what she wants to say. She developed her characters and the story over a few pages, and made it seem like a novel.

Another great one by Malcom!

One of the great things about discovering a writer or a series ‘late’ is that you don’t have to wait to read the next book. You can just read book after book from that writer or series. And that’s what I’m doing. It is the third story in the ‘Sons of Templar MC’ series. This time we get the story of Macy and Hansen, we met both in ‘Firestorm’ (book 2). Macy is a club girl and Hansen is a biker in that club. The fact that Macy’s a club girl had my attention immediately and made me very curious about this story. The story is again told from the woman POV’s but Hansen leaves her (or us) no doubt what his eelings are for her. I love the fact that once he made the decision to go after Macy, he went all the way. There was never a doubt for him. She was it for him!

‘Outside the lines’ was another great read for me. I’m very, very happy that I discovered this writer and series. So if you like the books of Kristen Ashley or Layla Frost then you really have to try this series too.

Satisfying novella. Good pacing and character development. I chose this one because I like to see an author challenge him/herself to take a “bad” character and make us care about them. Mission accomplished here. I haven’t read this author before and I’m feeling sort of over the motorcycle romance but I liked her writing well enough I might give more books in this series a try.

“The sex-sweet mother, the sex-was better than I’d ever imagined. It was something more than his talents in the bedroom, which were substantial, it was the connection we had, the intangible, unspoken something between us that brought so much more depth to it.”

4 club girl stars! Finished this book in one sitting…..way to hard to put down!

I’ve never had such a girl crush on a character than I do with Macy. She’s hard not to love, she’s a perfect heroine and I loved her take no prisoners attitude. I even found myself falling for Hansen, even though there were times I wanted to hate him and his attitude. The story itself was well written and I found myself not wanting to put my kindle down to do anything. I had to finish this book…..it was almost like an addiction! I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future!!

i find it hard to rate novellas as high as full length novels as there is usually not enough detail .. but i did enjoy this one and it was good to get a view into another charter of the Sons. A great couple and an easy read and very well written

I loved this novella! It’s a great addition to the Sons of Templar series. It’s short and (mostly) sweet, with a sexy biker and a super strong and amazing heroine. Can’t wait to see what’s next in this awesome series!

Although this is a quick read you really get a sense of who Macy and Hansen are. He was so good to her, the way he dealt with her past as a club girl got him extra points from me. When her past comes calling Macy finds out just what she means to everyone.

Hansen and Macy did not catch me, their story lacked depth, which is understandable for a novella, but it could have been way better. I felt like nothing really happened and it was kind of half-hearted. Also did not like the hypocrisy of how much shit she was getting for killing someone for revenge, wouldn’t have been such a problem if one of the men would have done it. Considering that Macy and Scarlett have basically the same background story, I liked the way Scarlett turned out way better and the general tone of her (love) story caught me more.

I loved this novella about Macy from the NM MC chapter that helped Amy. Knew there was a story with her and Hanson and so glad this author shared it to.

I'm not sure how I missed this book during the numerous rereads of this series over the years. It was fitting though because I had just finished the new Sons of Templar series that is in NM and these characters were pivotal players in that series.

As always, this author has created characters that feel like family. There is a reason I devour her words like air.

I really didn’t expect this novella to be as good as it turned out, so I was surprised when I finished the book and enjoyed it so much I had to give it 5 stars. Hansen and Macy were introduced in the previous book and again I was surprised at the depth of character development the author brought forth with these two characters.

If you follow the biker/MC genre you know the theme of the club girl or club whore has been picked up in the most recent past and there was quite a few books released based on this theme. Some of them have been good, some not so good. In my opinion, this author took the club girl theme and made it into a great love story with characters you will like and root for.

Macy is not your usual club girl. She’s a savvy woman, a college student and a woman who has a plan to earn money to take her to a respected position in life. She’s not sorry or apologetic about her status and the sex she has with the club members but she has class at the same time. Of course she comes with emotional baggage but she does a good job of handling that. Well, she does until Hansen enters the scene. There’s been some type of spark between them since they met almost a year ago but neither has acted on it. He’s never slept with her until the tension explodes and he claims her. Of course she fights it but can’t deny her deep feelings for him. I loved the way Hansen stayed strong and confident that he would win and keep her. I loved the character development and the way each of them worked through their baggage.

If you prefer MC series with strong, alpha men who have a soft inner core and who are OTT possessive and heroines who can be strong but yet know when to give in, this one is for you. It’s not as gritty as some other biker series and has wonderfully developed characters and details that draw you completely into the story.

I received an ARC from this author for an honest review.

This book gave me a Kristen Ashley vibe.
The way the hero spoke reminded me so much of her biker men. All her men really.

I liked the hero. For once I didn't have to read a MC guy screw everything that wasn't nailed down. He kept his shit on the down low. After he decided he was going for the heroine he was all in. Which I liked a lot. It made me feel secure in his character.

Macy was pretty good too. I just had some issues with her way of dealing with things. Hansen being her Old Man should have been the first to know anything so he could comfort her and deal with things in a MUCH better and safer way for all of them. She acted immature for a little bit but luckily that was nipped in the bud.

Only a few sex scenes the rest was just mentioned after the fact.

Decent enough epilogue.

She was a club girl so there was only one bit with another member but it wasn't described. So technically no cheating.

Might read the second book when it's out. Also might go back and read the other men in the charter.

Goes down as another off my 2018 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book under 200 pages. Sometimes it’s more fun to live just outside the lines. Something Macy has grown to do and Hansen is starting to embrace. From club girl to Old Lady, how will our girl Macy handle the change after the breath-taking kiss that started it all?

Macy isn’t all sunshine and rainbows but she does bring a smile to those she meets. She found a family in the form of the club and felt like it sort of fitted what she needed. She doesn’t get treated any less by the men – well maybe one of them, Hammer – but seems to think this is the life that she is meant to live. She has a darker past that has put her on the path she finds herself on but she wouldn’t change it, especially as it led to Hansen. Now he might be the only guy from the club that she really wants but he seems to stay away, something she can never be too sure about. He likes to send mixed signals, more so when you see his face almost explode when one of the guys asks her to go some place private. It confuses her to no end, as she can never figure him out. It seems change is on the way though as he is about to make a stand. The morning after having fun with one of the brothers you would think she would be feeling satisfied. Not so much after Hansen startles her in the kitchen early the next morning and kisses the life out of her. Just when she thinks that this could mean something he turns and leaves. If that wasn’t confusing enough for the next week the guys at the club give her a wide berth. Thinking this could be their way of pushing her out she panics and can only think of one thing that links the timing – Hansen and his panty dropping kiss.

Hansen is a hard guy to get a feel of to begin with as he likes to keep his emotions close to his chest. You can see he is struggling with what he feels for Macy but doesn’t think to make a move. Then he has the nerve to be pissed off that his brothers get to have her and not him. It all changes after a kiss, one that he had been holding out on for a year. One taste and he knew that she was for him and that from that moment on no other would have her but him. He just forgets to mention this to her first, and then there is the trouble with the Cali Templars and Amy needing to be rescued. So it kind of puts their bubbling heat of passion on hold for the time being. Once they leave though Macy is the first thing on his mind. Once he realizes that this is the life she is happy with, being part of the Templars, he knows he needs to change her role within them. He can feel the tension rising and knows he needs to stake his claim before he loses out. The moment she gets caught up in a bar fight seems to be the best move to kick start him into action.

A hit to the head and Macy might think she is dreaming when she wakes in Hansen’s arms in his bed, with his naked chest and everything, yum all round. He may be asleep but she can’t miss this chance as she has been pining for him for a year. Asleep he may have been but the moment she moves across him and her lips are close his resolve doesn’t last. One kiss and that’s it, he makes it very clear from that moment on she is his and not just as a club girl but as his Old Lady. Something she has longed for but never thought she would become. She might have wanted it but the getting it is a bit harder. When they are in the bubble of passion at his or hers it’s great but her past keeps coming back to cause her trouble in her mind. The transition is hard but Hansen doesn’t see a problem with it. Her past is the past; he just looks for the future. Shame her past is a darker one that comes back to haunt her. Will her new family be there to help or cast her aside?

Jagger was cool and clearly cared for Macy, he knew that she deserved more than what she thought she was worth. Grim was a hardass but you would expect nothing less from the clubs President. Hammer was a bit of a dick but maybe there’s more to him than meets the eye. Arianne was a laugh and clearly in tune with Macy enough to know what she wants and how to help her through things. It was an interesting novella showing a different side to the biker romance. Nothing ever runs smoothly and there are always going to be troubles along the way with this pairing – or with any of the Templar guys that is as they really do love fiercely when they claim you as their own – but sometimes to go outside the lines is more fun.

Holy shit.

The story has laughs, secrets, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and I was kept interested.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Making the Cut (Sons of Templar MC #1)
Firestorm (Sons of Templar MC #2)

This is Macy and Hansen’s story. Macy is a club girl but that does not stop her from also being a great person and friend to the other club girls and the mc brothers. When Hansen gets a taste of Macy he knows he wants to claim her but he pushes her away instead. After she gets hurt during a fight he takes her home and claims her like he wanted too. But is that the end or is that just the start of the hard times for this couple? What happens when the past is let free. Will it destroy the future?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read. Be sure to keep a look out for the next book in the series.

I recommend this book.

Macy didn't have it easy in her life. Her parents brutally murdered, a menacing grandmother that is giving her grief whenever possible. Graphic designer by day, club girl by night...not what she had envisioned but it gives her a sense of belonging. Hanson has been her secret love for a year, not that he would care with the cold glances he throws her way...or so she thought. When Hanson finally claims her Macy is over the moon. She has all she ever wanted. When her past suddenly enters her life again she has to act. Full of anger and hate she commits the ultimate crime...murder.
This book, like all the other books in this series, will grab you right from the beginning. I really love how the books can be read as a standalone or within the series. I personally find it easier to follow the characters involved by reading the books in order. Another amazing read by Anne Malcolm ❤

3/5 🌶️

I was so excited to get Macy and Hansen's story after meeting them in Firestorm. There was a lot packed into this little novella; smut, action, love, mystery and suspense. Macy is more than just the sunshine that she constantly radiates, her past and even parts of her present are pretty dark. I love Hansen and his alpha side, his 0-60 with Macy had me smiling from ear to ear. As much depth as this short story had, I do wish we could have gotten more Adrianna and Jagger, I really loved their relationships with Macy. But I know Anne just released a spin off centered around the New Mexico chapter, so I'm really excited to see more of Macy and Hansen in the future.

This author just keeps up the adventures and this Novella is just the right touch in between the full stories of the characters she has brought to life. Macy and Hansen's story is short, but it's not without it's adventure, bringing together an instant attraction, but letting it develop into a slow, sweet and sexy story that will make you fall more in love with the characters of The Son's of Templar. Each story gives you another piece to this series and I have loved each one and can't wait to keep reading.

Loved this book - why it takes a man so long to figure out what he wants is right in front of him; finally Hansen declares he wants Macy - she wants him too.

They begin their relationship, mutual lust and admiration, they can’t get enough of each other. He helps her cope with her past - in return he gets the love he’s wanted for a year, since he first saw her.

What a lovely storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

A fab read! This is the first book that I've read by this author and I choose the novella because MC books aren't usually my choice of read. However I really enjoyed this one and I cannot wait to start at the beginning of the series and read them all. This book is listed as book 2.5 in the series but my pleasure was not hindered by reading this novella before the others.

5 BEAUTIFUL NOVELLA STARS!! OMG.....I absolutely love this series!! Macy and Hansen are beautiful characters....I loved getting to see their story play out. Their story is beautifully written and will hit all your emotion buttons. This author has a way with words that sucks us readers into the story, like we are related to these characters.

I am loving this series, Anne Malcom does a fantastic job of writting hot alpha males who love strong independent women.

This short novella focuses on the Mexico chapter of the Sons, with two characters we meet in Firestorm, Macy and Hansen.

Even tho this is a novella I didn’t feel like they story was lacking, it still left me feeling satisfied and wanting more. The characters had depth and the story still contained the usual angsty feeling that Anne is able to write.

Was a So-so story

It wasn't bad but it wasn't that great either. There was potential for sure. I felt like not much going on but it was long compared to what we saw. And tbh I didn't really get into the story. I didn't feel the connections to the characters. Left me mehhhhh....
