OK yeah, I’m not happy. While the writing was eloquent, everything else – from the characters to the story structure to certain plot devices – was a big disappointment. Had I known what I know now, I don’t think I would’ve picked up this book. At least, not until the next one came out first. Still, the writing is amazing and the only reason why I was able to finish the book.

That blurb caught my attention immediately – it’s pretty powerful and I was told it’s a forbidden romance so I jumped at the opportunity to read this. Once I started reading though, I quickly realized that aside from the forbidden part, there wasn’t anything else that grabbed my attention.

The story

The book starts out with the hero Nick just getting out of jail – he was wrongfully accused of murder (which, by the way never got resolved by the end of this book) and after a year in prison is being released. He’s practically destitute – no money, no job, but a miracle arrives! The rich Reverend of the town hires him to help around the house and it’s there he meets the Reverend’s lovely and exquisite daughter, Reverie Hale. They immediately are attracted to one another and keep their budding relationship a secret from everyone around them.

The characters

Unfortunately, I didn’t like any of the characters enough. I felt that as the hero, Nick whined and complained about his lot in life more than taking action and changing it for the better. He was more of a “beta” hero than anything and still very weak. I liked Reverie more than Nick – as the daughter of the Reverend, it’s to be expected she’s sheltered and innocent, not at all wild like the usual teenage girls portrayed in stories. However, I felt like she was too childish and naïve and her relationship with Nick actually made me UNCOMFORTABLE.

The plot devices

OK I’m just going to rip off the band-aid fast – I did NOT like the following plot devices. At all.

1. Nick’s arrangement with his ex-girlfriend Krista:

2. Reverie’s journal entries: I thought that was pretty different – it’s a great way of showing her POV but through a unique way; however, her diary entries made her sound like a 10 year old child than a mature teen  why I felt uncomfortable reading about her relationship with Nick. I think it would have helped more if I actually got a POV chapter from her, not just a diary entry in her perspective.

3. THAT. BLOODY. CLIFFHANGER. Not going to lie, I’m really pissed. Had I known this book is the first installment in the series I wouldn’t have picked it up now. I was under the impression that this is a standalone, or at least, a book that had a HFN ending. Nope. You’ve been warned.

I don’t voluntarily read many YA books but I made an exception for this one. I loved this author’s Drew and Fable books and really looked forward to enjoying this book, but no matter how hard I tried to stay positive, the things I mentioned above got in the way and unfortunately I had to dock stars. Regardless, I’m still a fan of this author and look forward to her upcoming work.

Nick has just spent the last eleven months in jail for a crime he did not commit. But life isn't what he expected it to be once he's on back on the other side. Tragedy hits and he is now forced to face being seventeen on his own with a reputation that isn't wiped away just with a simple acknowledgement of his innocence. This turn of events brings Nick to the Hale summer home, working for a famous televangelist, Reverend Hale where he sees her for the first time.

Reverie Hale is just shy of seventeen, sheltered and pure as the driven snow. Her life has never held excitement, she had never known what it was to actually live or love until she sees him.

Innocent flirting turns into so much more as these two try to fight their attraction and Nick tries to hide his secrets from her, knowing that they could never be more than a few stolen moments if anyone knew - if she were to ever discover his past.

Screenshot_7

First off, I loved the writing and there were moments were I really felt a little connection to Nick... but that being said, this one just sort of did not work 100% for me. The dual point of views were told in fashion that gave you Nick in the moment then Reverie's memories via her diary - this showcased her innocence that much more - but it just left me unable to feel much towards her throughout the book.

When I picked this up I had not realized this was a part one of a series... there is a pretty decent cliffhanger at the end of this one and I have a feeling that the real story is going to get moving in book two. His Reverie almost felt like a prelude to what might turn out to be a much larger story. I have read numerous Monica Murphy books and usually I am able to be drawn into the characters and the story instantly, this one sort of has to grow on you. I have a feeling that if I had my hands on book two and was able to read these back to back - the overall experience would have been more.

I will read book two because it is MM and because I am curious as to where she'll take this story. I have a feeling that Reverie will kick it up a notch in book two and that it will be her time to shine.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my review. This is one of those books that as soon as I saw the cover, I knew I had to read it. Reading the synopsis, it pulled me in further and I was thrilled that I would not only have the opportunity to receive a copy, but to also share my review. Once in awhile, a book comes along that reminds us that love can be sweet and simple, pure and selfless. It speaks to us of the innocence of first love and what people will do to protect it. This story of Nick and Reverie is one of those books.

Nick is a teenage boy who has suffered more than most in his short 17 years of life. From the wrong side of town, it was just him and his mother, and he was content with life. Sure, they struggled to make ends meet after his dad left them and then subsequently passed away, but they had each other and that was enough. A cruel twist of fate and a betrayal from his best friend finds him sitting in a jail cell for 11 months for a crime he didn’t commit. In there, he was forced to grow up faster than he should have, experiencing this he never should have seen. What I liked about his character is that he didn’t let it harden him. He managed to escape his injustice relatively unscathed.

We meet Nick when he has just been released from jail, the charges finally being dropped against him. He is more than ready to go home and let life get back to normal - unfortunately for him, that isn’t in the cards. His Mom has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and within weeks, she passes away. Leaving him on his own to fend for himself. He has no choice but to seek employment or end up on the streets.

Reverie Hale. On the outside, it appears that she has it all. Her father is the famous Reverend Hale, and with his faithful followers on his weekly television show - their family has benefited from preaching God’s word. Living a life of wealth and privilege, you would think she would be happy - however, that’s the farthest thing from the truth. Behind closed doors, she is kept under lock and key. Under the thumb of responsibility and image and the strict rules of her parents, all she dreams of is finding her first love and being given the chance to really live her life. Stealing pieces of it through the romance novels she reads on her Kindle isn’t enough for her anymore - she longs for when she can feel those emotions for herself. A chance run-in with one of the new employees hired for summer help, she begins to see that maybe her dreams are within her reach.

When these two worlds collide, a true love story begins. Nick was drawn to Reverie right away, I loved how he always made her the center of his world - calling her his “Daydream,” and going out of his way to make her feel special. As their stolen moments increase, they both come to realize that they are in jeopardy of losing their hearts to one another. The secrets surrounding their forbidden love are monumental. Fearing that he will lose Reverie, Nick hides his past from her. Never a good idea...That on top of the sneaking around they do to spend time together - it all looms over their head, a black cloud threatening to shatter everything they built.

This is a story of love in its purest form - first love. It’s a sweet tale coupled with threats and deception. It captivated me to the end, had me on the edge of seat fearing for the outcome of these two star-crossed lovers. I loved that although the story was told through Nick's eyes, we also had glimpses into Reverie's thoughts through her diary entries - that was the little something extra that made this book stand out for me. Those little snippets were the perfect touch.

What happens with the bad boy falls for the innocent good girl? Are they doomed right from the start? Their love just may be explosive enough to bring the entire hierarchy crashing down around them…

Nick and Reverie come from very 'different' world.
Reverie is a daughter of a famous reverend. Her family is so religious and wealthy. Her parents want her to be an innocent girl and only allow her to have sex after marriage.

"You never rebel. You're always the good girl"
"Good girls are boring. I want you," She says, her voice shaking. "So much."

description

And there's Nick or Nicky or Nicholas (as Reverie calls him) with his life that is so opposite from Reverie's.

"She lives in a completely different world. One I will never, ever find myself in."

He's not coming from a wealthy family and he has dark past that makes his life changed forever.
Nick's mom died because of cancer. Now he's alone and he works for Reverie's dad in their vacation house.
Nick knows from the first time he saw Reverie that she is an off limits, but he wants her. And she wants him too.
So can they both be together with all of their differences?

"We may have committed a sin according to the Bible for having sex before marriage but... I love you. And I want to be with you. I don't think that's a sin, to become physical with the one person you care about more than anyone else."

description

This is the first time I read a book with 'religious' content like this. I know every religion has their own 'rules'. But I don't really understand with Reverie's family life with the religious TV shows etc.. because I'm not a Christian.
But the thing I understand is, her family wants to keep her innocent so they're so protective to her.
I'm a fan of Monica Murphy. I have read ALL of her books and this one is new. This is her first YA book (or Mature YA as she calls it).
I like YA, but too bad I think this one is just not for me.

Nick is good. But that's it, just good, not a great hero. I know with all his pasts and problems, it's hard for him to keep fighting for Reverie. But I think he could have done something braver and fight for his love to her. And the heroine, Reverie is not great at all (in my opinion). I don't really like her. She's like a spoiled kid from a wealthy family and she's pretty annoying. Well, typical 17 years old teenage girl though.

What I really like from Monica's books is because the story is focus only to the main characters. There are no unnecessary characters that are suddenly pop up in the middle of story that just make the story becomes long and more complicated.
And this book is also written in dual POV, even though the main is male POV and the female POV is written implicit through the dairy she writes.
The cover is also beautiful. I like it.

I enjoyed reading it but it's just didn't really work for me... That's why I only give 3 stars.

And what I really hate from this book is.. THE CLIFFHANGER ENDING!!! AARGHHHHH

The story starts with Nick the hero coming out of Prison after a year for a crime that was not his fault. This is YA read and a bit too tame for me. Reverie turns 17 in the book and Nick is 18. The story is told from Nick's POV but we get Reverie's POV through her diary entries but they read too immature and I kept picturing her as a young child which didn't help. Reverie (I don't like that name by the way!) is quite the innocent as her father is a Preacher and she has led a closeted life.

The writing flows easily enough but I didn't like that Nick kept having sex with his ex. Not just because of his growing feelings for Reverie but because his ex was connected with why he ended up in prison. The plot theme of 'she's too good for me' is nothing new and so didn't hold my attention.

This is a cliffhanger story with the next book 'coming soon'. Again, I'm not a fan of continuation books. I'm not sure why an author can't tell a story in one go nowadays. This book didn't interest me enough to want to read the conclusion but that's not to say a younger audience might not love it.

**His Reverie generously provided by the published via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**

His Reverie tells the young adult, contemporary tale of renowned bad boy Nick Fairfield and doe-eyed naïve – his Reverie Hale. Star crossed lovers of the Romeo and Juliet variety, Nick and Reverie meet during the summer when Reverie’s family spend the summer at their house in the town where Nick resides. It’s a provocative young adult story building up to an even bigger story with the books intended to follow.

The plot moved at a fast pace. All real-time prose told from Nick’s point of view made the story interesting. Male points of view are not always done great but Ms. Murphy met the challenge. Nick’s life runs on the edge of good and bad. He’s shades of grey in his life because of people he’s surrounded himself with and felt loyalty to align. When he meets Reverie, a black and white kind of girl, all he sees are bright lights and hope. She’s something unreachable to him, someone who couldn’t possibly see the good in him. Reverie’s naivety yet spunky demeanor draws you to her character immediately. You want to see through her eyes but only get glimpses through journal entries after the fact.

It’s an interesting dynamic telling the story through Nick’s present day perspective while adding Reverie’s past perspective on events that have already happened. I liked hearing from both of them and given the innocence of Reverie I liked how the author chose to not have us live through moments with her in the present but rather as a reflection and introspective look. It made her growth more substantial and her strength more evident. All the while Nick moving the story forward and providing the angsty details of what he’ll do next.

I love a good story of forbidden love. The novelty of the secret, the excitement of the challenge, the question of how they can possibly make this ever-lasting all provide an excellent combination of good story. We get some passionate scenes here, not in great detail but enough that we understand and feel the connection between the two characters and we revel in the sincerity of their courtship. The secondary characters are good additions even the villains of the story provide great conflict.

The reason I chose not to give the book five stars is because I found it a bit predictable in parts. While the writing is good, easy to follow, and laced with mystery as a back story of what’s going on and leaving us wondering, there were parts that I found myself skimming paragraphs due to predictability and stale plot points. Some aspects of the story I couldn’t put my Kindle down while others got boring for me. It’s not a story I couldn’t stop thinking about, while I enjoyed it there wasn’t anything that drove me to really loving it.

The ending definitely leaves you wanting to know more right away; luckily we’re getting a sequel very soon. I enjoyed Nick and Reverie’s story. They're connection felt sincere and I'm definitely rooting for them. I’m excited to learn what happens next especially after the ending. If young adult forbidden love stories are something you enjoy reading, then His Reverie is definitely for you.

I LOVE Monica Murphy's One Week Girlfriend series. When I saw this book on Netgalley, I requested it asap and did a happy dance when I got approved.

I love Monica's writing - it's very easy to read and that holds true in this book as well. This book is told from Nick's POV but we do get Rev's POV in the form of her journal entries. This is a clever way to do alternating POV. But I felt Rev's POV just repeated everything from the previous scene. It was great to have some insight to her thoughts but I wish it wasn't so repetitive.

The plot left me wanting something more in this book.

The main characters are young - 16-17 years old. So I expected a bit of immaturity. What I found was that Nick was way more mature for his age. He's been through a lot and it making it on his own. I really liked how Nick was trying to make ends meet and get out of his crap town.

But Rev - she is so sheltered and immature. It was hard for me to read without rolling my eyes at times.

To sum it up: 2 kids from opposite sides of the money spectrum connect and fall in love. They begin a secret romance.

Character you love to hate - Krista of course.

Cliffhanger ending - BE WARNED!!

2 stelline tirate tirate...

This is why lying can ruin someone. Seriously I know it's hard saying the truth but would you rather risk the consequences? Not only is it freeing but makes life much easier.

4 STELLE TUTTE MERITATE

Amazon Buy Link---->> His Reverie

~~ 4 Stars ~~

This was the first book by Monica Murphy that I have read, so I didn't know what to expect from this book. I have always been one to enjoy a really good YA or Mature YA book now and again, and I have to say that I am glad I took a chance on this one. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This was a book about so much more then a high school aged love story. It was truly about learning to love some one unconditionally. About learning to accept a person for who they are now matter what.

I thought the storyline was interesting enough, that it kept my attention throughout the whole book. What I really liked was how this book was written. It is mostly in Nicholas's POV, but Monica also gave us Reverie's POV in the form of journal enteries, I really thought that was an interesting way of presenting Dual POV. The flow and pace of the book was also really good, I think this is a book that can be read in less then a day. Now Monica did add some suspense to the story right at the end, so of course this book does end with a CLIFFHANGER!!! I don't think it was the worst I've ever read but it definitely makes me want the next book NOW!! I want to know how it is all going to turn out. I have found that lately a cliffhanger is almost inevitable, so I am glad I didn't put this book off, although I did take a star away because we aren't warned or given any indication that this book was part of a series. I truly think that the reader deserves to know, so that if they aren't a fan of cliffhangers, then they can wait for the next book to come out.

As for the characters in this book, I really liked them. Reverie and Nicholas were complete opposites. Reverie was the good girl, daughter of a reverend, and living a really sheltered life. Nicholas was the bad boy, who got caught up in some trouble that wasn't even his fault. Nicholas was put in jail for a lie his best friend told, and when he finally gets out, he finds out that his mother is terminally ill. Nicholas is only 17 in this book and has gone through a lot of bad stuff. The Reverend takes pity on him and offers him a job at his summer home, this is where he meets Reverie. Talk about a girl who is sheltered. She was 16 going on 17 in this story and she isn't allowed to do anything. All she wants to do is break out of her shell and be able to act like a normal teenager does. When she meets Nicholas she is immediately attracted to him and he is to her as well. Over the course of the book their friendship and attraction grows, even though both of them know that it is probably wrong to pursue anything. Making their relationship kind of forbidden. What I loved the most about these two characters is that they were both able to see past each others weaknesses and learn to care for each other no matter what. It wasn't an easy road, and they do have their ups and downs (mostly because each of them have severe insecurities and they don't believe they deserve each other) but I was glad to see them work things out along the way. I will say that I did have to continue to remind myself of Reverie's age, because while reading her journal enteries, they come off kind of immature or that she is younger then 17. But I also realize that most of that comes from the fact that she is sheltered and inexperienced that I am guessing that is truly how a girl would sound in reality.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of YA books or if you are looking for a book about unconditional love and seeing past a persons differences. If you have read Monica Murphy's Girlfriend series, I am told this book is completely different and since I haven't read that series yet, all I can say is that I'm guessing it is based off the genre of this book.

My Thoughts:

His Reverie was a gripping story about the innocence of first love, and how when you meet that special someone, you completely get lost in them and want to spend every waking moment together.

Reverie Hale comes from an ultra-conservative family. Her father is a televangelist, and even though she has had a life of wealth and privilege, she also has been suffocated by her parents ideologies and prejudices. Reverie is a romantic at heart. She daydreams of the day she will fall in love and be moved by a guy the way that the characters are moved in her books and television shows. When she see's Nicholas, the new hired help for the summer, she thinks he is absolutely gorgeous.

Nick had been down on his luck for most of his life. His father left his mother, and then died a year later. He got wrongfully convicted and sent to jail for a crime that he didn't commit, because his best friend lied about him, and now that he is released, he quickly ends up losing his mother to terminal Cancer. However, when he gets hired for the summer to work at the Hale's summer vacation home, he hopes to save enough money to begin a new life. When he meets Reverie, he is taken aback by her beauty, innocence, and sweet disposition. He knows Reverie is out of his league, but he wants to do something to make himself happy for a change.

Soon Reverie and Nicholas find themselves sneaking around every spare moment to be together. However, the odds are stacked against them with Nicholas' jealous and conniving ex-girlfriend, Krista, threatening him, as well as Valerie Hale making it clear to Nick that her daughter is off limits, or she will destroy him.

His Reverie pulled me in right away. I fell in love with both main characters right away. Even though Reverie was a bit naive and innocent about life, she was very sweet, loving, caring, and compassionate. She reminded me a lot of myself when I was younger. I couldn't stand her mother Valerie, who acted jealous of her own daughter, and felt the need to compete with her for her father's attention. I felt for Nicholas' plight. The poor guy had the odds stacked against him. Yet, he was resilient, hard working, and wanted to make something of his life. He made some mistakes, but he learned from them.

The romance between Reverie and Nicholas was very passionate, and I was rooting for the two of them the whole time. I loved how this story was realistic and included sex scenes. Many Y.A. stories aren't realistic in the fact that they do not include more that a kiss, and act like teenagers don't know about sex. The scenes were not frequent, or explicit in nature. However, at 17 years old, most teenagers have some knowledge of sex, and some are even experimenting with it, as was the case with Reverie and Nicholas.

I also loved how the story was told from Nicholas' point of view, yet we also got to read some of Reverie's thoughts through her daily journaling. I kept waiting for the last shoe to drop for these two, and had an idea of how I thought the story would end. Boy was I wrong! I was shocked by the ending of the story! The suspense meter was at an all time high during the last third of the story!!! Then, I was delivered a massive cliffhanger!!!

My Rating:

I give, His Reverie, by Monica Murphy 4 Obsessive First Love, Suspenseful, Passionate, Dreaded Cliff-Hanger Filled Stars!!! I can't wait to read the sequel, and am glad that it is coming out later this month, so I don't have to wait too long!

I received this ARC for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

*sigh* … Based on all the hype about Monica Murphy’s previous books, I had hopes that His Reverie would be at least an okay read. I might’ve been a bit skeptical, but I figured I’d get a good story. Unfortunately, that was not the case with this book. At. All.

His Reverie tells the story of Nick and Reverie and the obstacles they have to overcome in order to be together… But not really. Shortly after Nick is released from juvie for a crime he did not commit, he finds out his mother has cancer, and when she dies shortly thereafter, Nick is left all alone. With expenses and bills to pay, Nick gets a job working for the Hale’s during the summer, and it is there that he meets Reverie. The more time they spend together, the more dangerous it is for both of them. After all, Reverie is everything that is pure and good… and Nick is not.

I liked the idea of having a new adult-ish book be told primarily in the guy’s POV. However, Nick felt short. He’s clearly got some baggage—being wrongly accused of a crime will do that to you—but I couldn’t find something else to hold on to. I didn’t find him charming. I didn’t find him sexy. I didn’t find him endearing. He was just blah. Honestly, the only reason I kept reading was because, despite Reverie’s childish tone (which I’ll get to later), I was curious to see as to how the story would develop. I’m sorry to say, but reading this was just a waste of my time. Nick just kept going on and on about how Reverie’s too good for him, and how he’s such a fuck up and I just wanted to yell, “DUDE, GROW SOME FUCKING BALLS!”

Usually, when I find the male protagonist to be less than ideal, there’s something redeeming about the female protagonist, but in this case, Reverie was even worse a character than Nick was. I’m a preacher’s daughter, so I can relate that being in the constant limelight sucks. But after that? There was nothing to this girl. Reverie is sixteen, almost seventeen years old and yet she acted like she was freaking twelve! From the moment I read Reverie’s first diary entry, I knew I would not be able to relate, or even like her, at all. Her voice was completely childish, to the point where I had to wonder if I was reading a book about a thirteen year-old. *sigh* There’s naive… and then there’s Reverie.

Oh, the drama. There’s only so much I can take! Drama can create tension and can be a leading element to add to a story, but when it’s overly done, it makes the story that much harder to digest. First there was Nick’s own self-disgust which just screamed of unnecessary angst. Then there was Krysta (I don’t even care enough to check if I spelled her name correctly) who was written to the extreme. Plus, I’m not sure if I should be impressed or appalled that Murphy wrote such a detestable slutty female character. And lastly was that ending. I mean, seriously? Was that really necessary?

I don’t want to dish on any author’s work, but I just couldn’t get behind this book at all. While there might have been something here, it was buried beneath the insane amount of over-the-top drama. While the book ends in a cliffhanger, I don’t actually care enough to find out what happens next.

** BETH'S 3 STAR REVIEW **

**Complimentary copy provided by author for an honest review**

His Reverie was the first book by Monica Murphy that I have read and after just reading the synopsis and hearing such great things about the author’s writing I was very excited to read it. Sadly I found my excitement fading almost instantly after picking up this book and it just never came back.

Rev (Reverie) Hale is the daughter of Reverend Hale, a TV Evangelist, and she leads a very pure and sheltered life. She is on the verge of turning 17, goes to an all girl school and has never been kissed. Nick is working for her father at their summer house and is just getting out of jail for a crime he was wrongly accused of doing by his best friend. Slowly as the summer progresses these two connect but it is kept secret. For me this book was the typical sweet innocent good girl virgin meets the poor troubled bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks that Mommy and Daddy don’t approve of.

His Reverie was an okay read, the writing style was good and was well edited but I had several issues with it. First, the synopsis nor the actual posting of the book on any site does not state anywhere that this is the first book in what looks like a 2 book series and it wasn’t until I reached the end and was left with a cliffhanger ending that I realized this was not a stand-alone. I do not expect an author to disclose if the book will end in a cliffhanger ending but I do expect an author to clearly state to the reader somewhere on the book posting that this is the first one in a series and is not a stand-alone. The way this book is posted leads you to believe it is a stand-alone. Second, both the storyline and the characters really fell flat for me. I found myself not connecting with these characters at all and the storyline just didn’t keep me engaged. I found Reverie and all her religious beliefs to be very annoying and found her to be all over the place. Nick was okay but for someone who has had some hardships, I wanted more emotion from him and I just didn’t get it. Last this book was told in dual POV, Nicks POV was told by him but Rev’s POV was told in the form of her writing in her journal. I found myself struggling at times to really feel his POV as I found it sometimes didn’t feel like a male POV and it didn’t feel like the POV of a 17-18 year old boy. Rev’s POV was in the form of her writing in her journal and just found it to be very repetitive and ended up skimming a lot of it. I would have much preferred to see her POV as things happen, not her writing what happened.

Overall it was a very sweet romantic YA story but was a little too sweet at times for me and didn’t really care for religious aspect to the story, another thing I would have liked to known upfront.

Two teens from opposite sides of the track, living lives as far removed from each other as the North Pole is to the South Pole. But there is an unspoken chemistry between them that has all the makings of new, young love. Told in dual POVs in a truly unique manner, I was taken inside Nick’s mind, to the turmoil he held within, just a teen, just released from prison for a crime he did not commit, his mother has just passed on after her life was taken by inoperable cancer, Nick is alone, scared and barely living. The second POV comes in the form of Reverie’s journal entries. She is sheltered, trained to perform onstage and in public for her televangelist father and a mother who sounds a lot like an infamous former televangelist’s plastic wife. In spite of her strict upbringing, Reverie has found a boy who may be her first love and he becomes the topics of her entries. Can these two bridge the gap society has dug around them? If Reverie knew of Nick’s past, could she still love him? People are hard-pressed to forget or forgive the likes of Nick, even though his innocence is proven. Will the mighty hand of the Reverend smash their budding romance? Will another death be falsely blamed on Nick?

His Reverie by Monica Murphy is an edgy and dark young romantic tale that has all the elements for great reading, with the angst coming from the male hero, proving that the insecurities of being a teen, compounded with a bleak past takes a toll on even the masculine gender. Nick played his part well, I did not feel so good about Reverie, she is far too immature for what she is feeling for Nick, as evidenced by her journal entries. Perhaps her taste of the outside world and living on the edge by secretly sneaking away to see Nick will give her a much needed taste of independent thinking, NOT that I condone sneaking around! Still, Ms, Murphy can definitely write and I have the feeling “the rest of the story” will uncover far more than one could imagine as the series continues. She has a wonderful talent for setting a bleak and desperate tone while leaving the future clouded in a mist to be revealed later.

I received an ARC edition from Monica Murphy in exchange for my honest review.

Brutta davvero.

Nick went to prison for a murder he didn't commit and is then released once firm evidence is found. He is still considered an ex con and has problems finding employment until a famous televangelist hires him as a glorified house boy.

Then Nick falls in lust (what he calls love) with the Reverend's innocent, virgin, blonde, angel daughter. If he touches her, or gets caught anyway, it will be the end of his job.

Reverie is 16, a pledged virgin with a promise ring, and has her pants on fire when she sees Nick shirtless by the pool. She starts rebelling against her strict parents (who are jerks, so fine) by dressing "sexier" to impress Nick, wearing makeup, and acting out. She is soooo in love, and Nick is worth it all, even if he has a trashy ex and a record, and it will make her parents furious. The reader gets her POV through sappy, childish diary entries that made me sad.

This was way not for me. There was no established reason why these kids loved each other besides hormones, I felt Nick's attitude toward the girl who he was more than happy to have sex with constantly before meeting the virgin was suspect, and Reverie basically a stereotype.

-I received a free copy of this book to read and review for The Wicked Reads Review Team-

2.5 - 3 Stars!

I'm disappointed. I had such high hopes for this one, but it just didn't live up to what I thought I was getting. I rated it 3 Stars because I enjoyed the sweetness and naivety of Reverie, at first, but then it got repetitive. The beginning was intriguing, a solid story line with uniqueness. Something was off for me. And all the sweetness just got annoying. I'll chalk this one up as not my cup of SWEET. I'll warn you, there is a cliffhanger that I wasn't expecting, I'd probably be interested to see how there story goes but it's not something I will run out and buy. Maybe the next will have more of what I'm looking for. Who knows, it's probably me and not the book.

"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."

I found this to be an engaging read. The premise that the 'perfect' tv evangelist's family was not so perfect worked well. The run of bad luck faced by the mostly upbeat Nick seemed unkind, until the end, when the twist was just cruel - but clever. Was it entirely realistic? No, but then this was a work of fiction, and the writing was good, so it was an easy read. I am certainly invested enough that I will look out for the next book.

In jail for a crime he didn't commit, Nick is released only to find that the one person he loves most in the world is on limited time. Struggling to find his place in this new found life away from the prejudices that go with a man who has been in jail, Nick finds a job working for a summer home for Televangelist Hale.

Reverie Hale is a everything Nick is not, she is sweet, bright, and innocent. A friendship of sorts pulls Nick and Reverie together, but everything that surrounds them is trying to pull them apart.
