Ghost Planet

Rate this book
Opdyke is known as the Ghost Planet for good reason. Those who are forced to terraform the icy planet, never leave. When Val Lucas finds himself on the prison train bringing fresh souls to the labor camp, he has other plans. Earning the trust of several within the camp, Val begins to plan their escape. Now, it's a matter of surviving the frigid weather, packs of ferren (ice wolves) and the Continuum soldiers who will hunt them. That's only the beginning.
True adventure awaits them in the celestial stars above.

I'm rather on the fence about this one...

An interesting universe shaping up, including the requisite oppressive regime. The enforcers are a little different in this series compared to most.

However, there were definite elements in this that I was not overly enamoured with. The characters: Eddie is a bit too crude for my liking; Val is a bit of a goody two shoes; Abby is rather insipid; but I do like Euphrates, the big lump of an alien.
The insta-love between Val and Abby was downright irritating. Val continually drooling over Abby was annoying in the extreme. I had thought it was only teens in many YA stories that fell in love instantly, apparently not. Would rather have heard a few more details about the ship's capabilities than that nonsense. Sigh.

Editing? What editing? I'm continually baffled as to why an author would rush to publish without at the very least having their work proofread. An abundance of typos and grammatical problems are present and are enough to distract and remove a reader from the story.

In summary, a rather disappointing read despite a unique setting, some good action sequences and at least one likeable character, its potential was never quite realised.
