Short story previously published in the Whispers In The Dark collection

Charmaine Joliet gets an offer she wants to refuse but can’t. Someone from the old neighborhood knows a dark secret, one that could make Charmaine and her younger sister Jessi homicide suspects. But she’ll keep quiet a price. The client “hires” Charmaine to help rid her of an unwanted rich husband. Meanwhile troubled Jessi is in jail again for assault. The police would believe Jessi is capable of murder, and that Charmaine is willing to be an accessory to protect her.
Charmaine juggles saving Jessi from herself, solving a murder, staying out of jail, and not becoming a hit woman. Charmaine and Jessi have psychic abilities that help them come up with a much needed but risky Plan B. Once again supernatural skills and street smarts kick in to save the sisters from a dangerous smooth operator.

Read the second short story featuring Charmaine and Jessi Joliet. Follow along as they figure out what kind of ghost is haunting an historic New Orleans Mansion. Charmaine and Jessi untangle the twists and turns of lies that lead to gruesome murders.

Louisiana hot sauce in print. Less than 50 pages, but totally complete. Trash talk that's not trashy - only implied. A wife tries to blackmail a psychic therapist to kill her husband. This is really a great short read that would make a great movie.

Very short story. Read it In just over 20 minutes. Psychic abilities, murder, crime solving. Sisters with a bad upbringing having to not only fight the past but fight the present too.
Action filled and doesn't disappoint.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only. I felt this book was too short and the plot wasn't fully developed.

The only fault I could find with this book is that it was to short, and I say that, because I really enjoyed it, it was unusual and interesting, a really good read.

I received this from Instafreebies and as part of the deal, you are signed up to the author's newsletter. Even though I hadn't had a chance to read any of it, I had a sneaky feeling I was going to enjoy this series & this author, so instead of unsubscribing, I decided to stick it out. I needed something a bit different to read and this fell under that category.

Although, I really must learn how to read lol I started reading this story, and suddenly I'm 65% through. Hmm...this is striking me as a "short story" I said to myself. I double checked the title and sure enough, right there in black & white the title reads "Smooth Operator - a short story"

This novella/prequel, introduces us to Charmaine Joliet and her sister Jessi. Both are gifted with special powers and both use said gifts to help solve a murder.

Even though this was a super fast & easy read (I devoured it in about 2 days) I instantly felt a connection to Charmaine and even her troubled sister Jessi and am curious to find out more about them.

I really enjoyed the author's style of writing and will continue to follow this series through to its completion. My only "negative" comment about the book? It was simply TOO SHORT! I really wanted to get more into the characters, how they received their powers, what other shenanigans they might have gotten up to growing up, and really anything else the author can think of to throw in there. There were a few punctuation/spelling/wrong word choices, but nothing that really drove me crazy. It seemed to flow nicely and I could picture everything as it was happening. Again, I just wish it was a bit longer.

I am going to be starting the second book later tonight and I can only hope that with a full length novel, I will get my wish and learn more about the characters.

Thank you Ms Emery for the chance to read this series!
