"I wrote the story, so our young people might learn a little bit of history without realizing they’d done so, and for all the people who love the Jupiter Lighthouses and fight to protect it from the onslaught of “Progress”---especially Mrs. Bessie Wilson Dubois."
The mystery begins, for us, with a tremendous storm off the coast of Jupiter, Florida, and involves a brother and a sister who seek answers. There is romance, ghosts, and laughter as a Coast Guard family seek to solve the Jupiter Lighthouse Mystery.
The Jupiter Lighthouse Mystery by Frederic St. Laurent Sr Wanted to read this book because i like learning about lighthouses. Starts out with a shipwreck because the lighthouse was not lit that night of the big storm. Next up and the Simmons family will be leaving Boston Light to tend to the Jupiter Lighthouse in FL. A father and his two children. They meet up with the assistant keeper, Peter and they all get along well enough. Amy starts reading the logbook of past light keepers and learns much about who is haunting the lighthouse and other secrets. She and Tipton and Peter go together to solve more clues as they arise to find out who is the shadow and what they can do to help. With their dad's help they can fix some problems-oiling the hinges and he explains why at night time they would creak. So much history is in the logbooks, very fascinating details of decades past. Treasure is so unexpected and how they come by it! But all good things must come to an end as the family get stationed elsewhere. What will become of Amy and Peter ?? Love terms explained about Indian words and legends. Would be a great book for children to read along with their grandparents, each taking a page or two and discussing things along the way. Indian folklore and traditions was interesting to learn about. Felt this was really two books in one as the logbook is a story all by itself. Learning was fun in this book-not like a school chore or homework. Look forward to more from this author. Fred St. Laurent,Sr, has given us a historical fiction mixed with the paranormal in his book, The Jupiter Lighthouse. My attention was quickly captured by the recounting o' the chilling nor'easter that attacked the Valentine ferociously near the light. Even then, back in the early 1900's, something unexplainable was at work in the lighthouse. It would work intermittently, capriciously, or not at all.
We are treated to the history of the building of the lighthouse, through a logbook that the new present day keeper's daughter (Amy Simmons)finds. The history involves the local Seminole Indians, the white men taking over their land, the Civil War, and even one of the World Wars.
Amy, her brother, and Pete, the assistant light keeper, decide to find out what causes the horrible noises and strange goings-on in the lighthouse. Boy, are they in for a surprise. So was I, as the book took a turn that totally surprised me.
An interesting tale including some history of the Jupiter lighthouse. I must say, I became involved enough to Google a map of Florida to locate Jupiter. I did wish for a map in the book, plus a little more editing. Still, a worthwhile, educational read.

A great read! I am a big fan of history. I love how the author integrated a history lesson in the story without you even knowing. A lighthouse, shipwrecks, and a mystery that spans over a hundred years is all in this great book. This is a great read for the young as well as adults who love a fast paced adventure. A storm is raging and Jupiter Lighthouse is not lit??? The Captain of the ship Valentine is trying to keep his ship afloat as well as his crew. Why is the light out when it is most needed? All but three of the crew are lost to the sea. Many years later the Simmons family is trying to deal with the loss of a wife and mother. For a new start Lt. Commander Chad Simmons requests a duty transfer to the Jupiter Lighthouse in Florida. His kids, Amy(16) and Tipton(12) are excited to get away from Boston. Little do they know they are in for an adventure of a lifetime. Especially when strange things start to happen at the lighthouse and Amy finds an old log book full of stories to try and solve the mystery. If you love lighthouses and are looking for a good mystery, then this is the book for you. This book contains great characters, a mysterious mystery, and a look into the past. After the death of their mother, Amy and Tipton are not sure what their future holds. When they with their father are transferred from Boston to the Jupiter lighthouse, they start on a journey that none of them will forget. Mystery surrounds the lighthouse. From the earliest of times, the light house light has been known to do strange things. Many believe it is haunted. When Amy finds the log book from long ago, we find that each of the keepers have a story to tell. Will they along with Pete, the assistant keeper, find out what is going on? Will they put the "spirits" to rest? I really loved how the author combined mystery, history and just a little romance. Great read!
