Janey Richardson thought she had it all – the perfect job, a drop-dead gorgeous boyfriend, a cutesy cottage love nest, and a socking great diamond on her left hand. But things aren’t always as they seem, as Janey is about to discover when an unexpected stranger turns up exposing a secret that shatters her world. There’s only one thing for it. She’s going to have to disappear. Garth Davis thought he had it all too, until a secret is revealed that turns his world upside down. He is left with one burning question, but he’s going to have to take a five-thousand-mile journey to find the answer. When Janey’s and Garth’s worlds collide, a thaw takes place in Janey’s heart. But is Garth ‘The One’? Making the right decision isn’t easy, especially when Janey’s own past rushes back to meet her.
If you're looking for a bit of escapism, then this is the book for you. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and never having read any by this author before was very pleasantly surprised. Some sad and happy moments but humorous too in parts which made me smile. I guessed correctly how the story would develop but it was not straightforward by any means. Will be looking out for more of this novelist and hope they are just as good.
Another super book from one of my favourite authors, 'Secrets' is a roller coaster of a story, which makes you happy, sad, cross, and most importantly keen to carry on reading.
Debbie Viggiano is a consistently fantastic writer and I am already looking forward to her next book.
Disappointed with this book, I read all the great reviews but it didn't live up to my expectations. I found the writing style simplistic and predictable the characters 2 dimensional and stereo typed. I got over half way through but gave up as just not interested enough to carry on.
I was given a copy for a fair and unbiased review by Netgalley.
Janey is happy very happy, wonderful job as an headmistress in her local primary school, a fiancé Jake, she is besotted with. And living in a lovely cottage whilst living in the little town where she grew up.
On the day of her wedding to Jake, the doorbell goes and the visitor on the doorstep rips Janey's life apart!!
Janey can no longer live in the beautiful cottage that she shared with Jake, she is the talk of all the village gossips and only has her job to keep her occupied.
She needs to try something new so why not go to Canada with Canada Companion? Janey plans to meet new people and enjoy her holiday. Will this be the holiday she is hoping for.
Good story with quite a few twists in the story, and an enjoyable read
Okay-is book. Would give it 2.5 stars. Bit of escapism. Easy to read. End is predictable. Of course, there's a happy end. The big "shock" at the end was a bit annoying and absolutely not necessary. What was the author thinking? Did she want to write another chapter? The second to last chapter was absolutely unnecessary and did nothing really for the story. I just had to roll my eyes.
Also amazing how quickly some of the characters change their attitude. This kind of 'development' I expect from petulant 4-year olds, but not adults. Bit silly.
Well, as said it's an okay read for a long flight, a day at the beach or a rainy Sunday afternoon when there's nothing else to do. I doubt I'll remember the book in a month's time.
Janey thought her life was perfect .... a job as headmistress at her local school and a gorgeous rock star boyfriend that she was about to marry. .....so why is she on a plane on her own on the way to Canada?
Garth also thought he had it all.........a fantastic career as a best selling novelist, a beautiful girlfriend and a fantastic baby daughter that he absolutely adored. ...so why is he on a plane on his own on the way to Canada?
A lovely lighthearted read with lots of twists and turns and the descriptions of village life are so true! There are some good characters. ..although why Janey would stay best friends with Susie I done know...but overall a fun read
Oh yes, she did it again! This is such a great story! I love Debbie's writing style, it's funny and light, ironic and deep, as only intelligent people can be. One can not but empathize with Janey, a modern woman with a broken (and yet still strong) heart, who maintains her dignity throughout the story, and also with Garth, the down-to-earth real hero we'd all want to have in our lives. Be prepared for suspense and laughter and a surprise final episode that will put someone from the past exactly where he should be! Not to be missed.
This was the 1st book I have read by this author, after reading several reviews I decided to give it a try and I am really glad I did. The characters are so real to life you actually feel their emotions. An amazing story line that flows easily. A well written and well edited story that captures you from the start, with lots of humorous moments. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend. Thank you DV.
A great escapist read; there were things I didn't like about it, but it kept me turning the pages. I'd have given five stars except that I felt the happy ending was drawn out for too long and I got bored with it. This is a matter of personal taste however.
I finally found some downtime and wanted a no-thought escapism type book. This was pure mush. Not especially well written with over exaggerated everything and an idiot heroine who can’t see what the reader can see coming a mile off, but there was enough tongue in cheek to make it vaguely amusing. Probably wouldn’t read it again, but it worked well as a distraction for a bit.
I found the use of endearments from Jane’y’s fellow travellers unbelievable and silly, it was not my usual genre of book so maybe this is why I found the plot all rather boring and found myself skipping lots of pages.
Excellent book. Totally engrossing. Well told. Loved the premise of this love story. Realistic in its setting. Not going sightseeing in Canada, not by these descriptions.
Pleasant read with a nice little twist at the end . Amusing characters that will keep you entertained . Sure to please those with a romantic disposition .
