The waters of the world erase all but the mountaintops; within hours, few are left alive. The Trident, a hotel resort styled to look like a cruise ship, sits at the top of the Ouachita Mountains and may be one of the last dry places left on earth. Survivors discover that besides having no hope of rescue, they must face growing desperation and violence as supplies begin to dwindle. Different groups struggle to take control while right and wrong become blurred. A doctor, a undisciplined Marine, a divorced police officer, a little girl, a blue-haired pole dancer, and a Heavy-Metal playing bartender are among the few who will try to stay alive, unsure of what the future holds. Religious fiends, cannibals, and newly formed gangs fight back, but the seas are not finished dealing misery as legends and heroes wage war. The Trident is the ultimate battle between good and evil as sorrow, hope, and dreams take unfathomable directions. While there appears to be no real future, many are not giving up. They’ll fight Poseidon himself to control the hotel and escape.
What happens when it's the end of the world and there is no law anymore? The shit hits the fan, that's what!
Too many characters to keep up with so I took one star off for that, but apart from that this is a really riveting story. I'm becoming a big fan of Catt Dahman.
In an apocalyptic situation, what would you do to survive? As the people who are staying and working in The Trident Hotel, a folly built and laughed at by the world as it was being built soon have to make serious decisions on how just to survive the devastation that was brought on them. The world was covered with water as the oceans swelled, causing mass destruction and death. Waves soon covered mountain tops with little hope for those around the world. Communication is cut off, leaving those who survived on the mountain top inside The Trident wondering about their family and friends. Many choices are now placed on them. Do they band together as a group and gather what supplies are still there or do they go off on their own and worry about their own survival? This story had me gripped from the beginning as good versus evil comes into play as time goes on. Having read many of Ms. Dahman’s stories, I am always left with an eerie feeling inside. She has a way of making the reader feel what the characters are going through with her descriptions of the scenes you are brought deep into the story! This is definitely a book I recommend to anyone who enjoys a story that will have them on the edge of their seat wondering who survives and who does not until the very end!
The Trident is a place I'd like to visit ... pre-apocalyptic. Now ... it's the end of the world for most ... and ... as Dahman puts it "Human nature is fascinating." I was hooked initially with the irony of this set-up, a sense of humor sprinkled in for equilibrium ... or is every word cleverly penned by the sinister author to keep readers nerve-racked? More than simple survival of the fittest will be required to survive ... as tensions run high and moral compasses are tested and displayed ... readers will find this book emotional and rousing on introspective levels ... creating a depth of thought regarding the "what if..." about themselves and those around them. This is an impactful read that ends with ... well ... balance. You won't be disappointed!
