Twelve-year-old Luke Cedrus lives in the most un-magical place (an adoption ward), under the authority of the most un-magical person (Mrs. Hall), believing only un-magical things happen to him (detention). Until one night, Luke discovers he is anything but un-magical. He is a keeper of magic. The one thing Luke wants in life? Family. With his new magical powers, he's convinced he can have just that.
Or can he?
Immediately, life flips upside-down as in one night, he must escape from the ward to save his life and learns that his mother is dead and his father is wanted for the murder of a powerful keeper.
Now, engulfed by his new magical surroundings, Luke faces ridicule and ultimate danger for the actions of his father. Plus, after discovering an evil keeper's secret plot to dominate keepers everywhere, Luke is thrust into an adventure well beyond his years.
It'll take the help of his new friends, magical key, and sheer belief in himself to tackle the terrors facing the keeper world. And discover what family truly means.
Robin lives in Chicago (via Los Angeles) with her amazingly supportive husband, Alejandro, and sweet maltipoo, Moby. Free time together = city walking, coffee house exploring, new food finding, and red wine tasting. Free time alone = writing, reading, and imagining.
Currently, she's working as a freelance writer and supporting her husband by being their home’s “banker,” “chef,” and “property manager.”
This is a fun adventure with Luke Cedrus and the friends he makes in the magical world that he falls into one day. He tries to understand his new home: spells, whimsical creatures, and magical gadgets. Secret caves, secret doors, adventures and daring escapes--this book has it all! My favorite things about this book are the images evoked of the classical antique surroundings, as well as the gadgets that could do awesome things.
1. I am writing this review since think the book was pretty great to read and I recommend this book to anyone in general. 2. The book is about a boy named Luke who's mother died and his father was framed for a killing he didn't do. Luke is a keeper who got his key at age 13. All the other keepers get it at age 12.Luke in the beginning of book use to live at ward with his best friend mark who is 15 and he's a keeper to. Keepers have a key that is like a wand but can also open any door. Romulus is the bad guy in the story he tries to capture Luke at adoption ward. But thankfully Cashal put an adoption spell where no one can adopt Luke. So Luke has been at the adoption ward since he was born. On the night Romulus tries to capture Luke cashal takes him to a different world. In the story the 3 friends he met were Wood, Gravis, and Gwen. Graves first liked Luke because his key was silver and thought silver keys were superior to bronze keys. Later in the story Gravis doesn't like him because of his last name. Gravis found out that Luke's father name was Sean and there fathers were rivals. Throughout the whole story Wood and Gwen have been helping him find his father. The book gets its name because luke has a crimiore that was his dads and everyone is looking for it. In the story Austin seems like a good guy. But Austin ends up betraying them. Austin dies from Luke's key at end of story. But Romulus key is with Luke but Romulus is not dead. Sean is with Luke at end of story but almost dies. 3. When Luke finds his father at end of book is my favorite part of book. 4. My least favorite part of book is when Luke finds out Austin and mark betray Luke. 5. Is there going to be a second book? This question comes to mind because the book never finishes if Romulus is still alive or if Sean and Luke are looking for Romulus. 6. You should read the book to understand what a family truly is.
This review will be slightly different because I could see my younger self really enjoying this whereas older readers may not. I'll start off with what my younger self would say.
This book was A BLAST. There was action, magic, drama and everything you needed in a book! The key idea was really cool! I also really enjoyed Luke's character, background story and his entrance to his new life. His race to stop evil was full of adventure, mischief, friendship, and family. There were many plot twists (I'm assuming my younger self probably wouldn't be able to predict anything..) that I couldn't see coming! I would really recommend this book to anyone who loves magic and adventure!
As an older reader, I found this book way too similar to Harry Potter. Luke, the main character, lost both his parents got sent into a magical world in practically a split second. There he befriended a boy and a girl and there were magical competitions involving lakes and his famous blood helped him through a lot. There was even a boy who hated him for his father and his blood... (Malfoy pretty much). However, even with this slight problem and this book clearly being aimed towards younger readers, I have to say that I did want to finish this book! Yes, it would have been better reading this book a couple years back, but it wasn't a bad read even now.
I also found this book very predictable, again a problem that I probably wouldn't have faced if I read it a couple years back, but I was pretty much able to predict the two largest things that would happen by page 100 or before.
Overall, I really would recommend this book to younger readers, but even as an older reader I found the urge to keep on reading. As you can see I have two ratings one for younger readers (4/5) and one for older readers(3/5)! www.bringingpaperback.weebly.com
Robin Puelma has created a magical masterpiece in The Missing Crimoire. With endearing characters, tantalizing twists, and a detailed keeper world, this book is a must read for fantasy fans who enjoy a well thought out plot and a climax that will leave you praying Robin would finish book two ASAP!
Fantastic story with an amazing cast of characters. If you're as into magical journey/ fantasy worlds as I am, The Missing Crimoire is definitely a must read. I was completely immersed in the magical world and Luke's quest to find his place in it and uncover his magical lineage.
The ending was a satisfying one, with perhaps a hint to a sequel? Whatever the case, I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Such a fun fantasy world of magic and adventure. Robin Puelma paints vivid pictures of the world behind the magic and creates intrigue that makes us all want to know what is going to happen next! Cannot wait for the next one!
If you want to cheer on an independent author, follow Robin Puelma. It seriously takes guts to put your work out there and I look forward to seeing how she grows as a writer and storyteller!
