Ginger Voight is a screenwriter and bestselling author with over twenty published titles in fiction and nonfiction. She covers everything from travel to politics in nonfiction, as well as romance, paranormal, and dark, “ripped from the headlines” topics like Dirty Little Secrets.

Ginger discovered her love for writing in sixth grade, courtesy of a Halloween assignment. From then on, writing became a place of solace, reflection, and security. This was never more true than when she found herself homeless in L.A. at the age of nineteen. There, she wrote her first novel, longhand on notebook paper, while living out of her car.

In 1995, after she lost her nine-day-old son, she worked through her grief by writing the story that would eventually become The Fullerton Family Saga.

In 2011, she embarked on a new journey—to publish romance novels starring heroines who look more like the average American woman. These "Rubenesque" romances have developed a following thanks to her bestselling Groupie series. Other titles, such as the highly-rated New Adult series, Fierce, tap into the "reality-TV" preoccupation in American entertainment, which gives her contemporary stories a current, pop culture edge.

Known for writing gut-twisting angst, Ginger isn’t afraid to push the envelope with characters who are perfectly imperfect. Whether rich, poor, sweet, selfish, gay, straight, plus-size or svelte, her characters are beautifully flawed and three-dimensional. They populate her lavish fictional landscapes and teach us more about the real world in which we live simply through their interactions with each other. Ginger’s goal with every book is to give the reader a little bit more than they were expecting, told through stories they'll never forget.

First of all, the love interest is a whole penis most of the way through the book. No amount of physical attractiveness or chemistry or whatever will be enough to redeem him. He’s constantly belittling and manipulating the MC! And he hates fat people, it’s not gonna change. And it’s not cute or romantic.

Second, this novel is branded as body/fat positive, yet the language is super cringey and frames being fat as a flaw that someone can exist and be happy “in spite of,” which sits wrong with me. Basically all of the (super insecure even tho she’s a size 14) MC’s friends are fatter than her and several times she is in awe of them cus they wear cute clothes and are attractive to other, thinner people “even though” they’re fat. Lots of internalized fatphobia there.

I tried to push through but I am now firmly in the camp of not finishing books that make me mad, especially if they’re branded as being the opposite of what they are. Good thing this was free on Kindle!

"I see through the bullshit. There's glitter on your web, Eli, but it's a trap all the same. I've seen it. I've always seen it. When you see it for what it is then you can't get caught up in all it's not."

I'm still processing my thoughts as I'm writing this so I might edit this review tomorrow. I want to get it over with quickly since my memory is still fresh and vivid.

To be honest, I'm really on the fence with this book. I did enjoy this book to an extent but some parts of it, not so much. At first I was 100 percent engaged but throughout the middle of the book, my interest sort of fizzled out.

It's not that hard to connect with the heroine because the author made it so.

I loved that Carly's one of us. She started out as a very sarcastic person who didn't give a single shit over what and how you might perceive her as but then as the book progressed we really get to see more of her. She's kind and intelligent and one bit I really enjoyed about her is that she didn't easily succumbed to Eli's sexual advances. I liked that a hell lot.

Eli made it very hard for me to like him. He drove me crazy. He's so arrogant, rude and unapologetic about his fake image as a "big girls lover" in the industry. And not to mention so entirely clueless over the repercussions of his Hollywood persona to his adoring fans' self-esteem (if they ever were to found about how phony he really was) It really made me so angry.

I also didn't like the fact how incredibly mean he got whenever he was feeling threatened or jealous. It screams 'emotional abuse' to me whenever he would lash out at Carly when he got jealous. Not only that, he's also a fat phobe.

For me, Eli's opinion of fat people is an accurate representation of how society perceives fat people, especially fat women. According to society, if you are have a certain figure, then you're immediately labeled as 'obese', and that if you're fat, it means you're automatically unhealthy. When you're fat people automatically think they have a right to give you unsolicited advice about how you should manage your body better.

This issue is addressed quite a few times in the book which could be enlightening for some.
"But don't you want to be healthy?" he persisted.

"Who says I'm not?" She challenged. "Lots of things factor into health, like diet, activity and genetics. No one thing paints the whole picture. I go to my doctor every year. They test my sugars and my cholestrol regularly, to keep me ahead of any problems. I'm within normal levels."

Not only this, the book also doesn't shy away from touching about triggering issues like eating disorder caused by emotional abuse / trauma.

Overall this book really could have been better. The fact that the Hero was very unlikeable and how the story kept on dragging, really took it all away.

I liked the h Carly and the H Eli not so much in this book, I think I would have liked him more if he had his own pov as to me he seemed more fake than genuine as it looked like he was constantly playing it up for the camera especially when she hurts her ankle.
I liked reading Carly's inner thoughts especially when she gets roped into being his fake girlfriend for the press,
I found this book funny and I liked how strong Carly was, I did think that Eli genuinely had a phobia against larger woman as there was nothing to prove that he wasn't especially as he always bypassed her whenever she was working.
I liked her friends including Caz, the smooth talking casanova who in a way I was hoping Carly would get with lol but I liked seeing how he was constantly there for her as a friend.
Eli I thought was more genuine when it came to his little sister and it did warm me a little towards him and it made me understand the way he was because of his family, I didn't like how he was self centered and when he couldn't get his own way he would be childish, I didn't like how he went with another woman and his career didn't get affected by it which is the only reason why he is pretending to be with Carly in the first place to make him and his career look good, yet she has to sign a contract saying she couldn't stray.
The ending I did like but I would have liked to have known whether he was just playing with Carly's friend and keeping her around until the time was right or if she was actually helping him because throughout the book they would constantly flirt with each other but aside from that the ending made me happy but I would have liked an epilogue as I would have liked to have read more about them.

Wow!

This was probably one of the best and deepest novels I've ever read. I couldn't tear myself away, not that I wanted to in the first place. The emotional content was just crazy. At times I was giggling or at the edge of my seat, just to end up bawling my eyes out at those special moments.

I swear, everyone needs to read this book.

The description makes it feel like it's the same old thing, and yes, it is but it's so much more than that. The messages are so positive and uplifting. The facts they speak of are real, they touch on some touchy subjects, such as eating disorders...

It was written beautiful, had be entranced and enticed and excited. The ending made me cry. It was perfect, the perfect book, the perfect 5 star review. Amazing.

This was a super funny and cute romance. I really enjoyed the way this romance was different. The main character Carly is a plus-size girl. And the Main male character is a music celebrity who makes his living by singing about his love of larger women. The thing is Eli, really doesn't date larger women. He just writes and performs the songs he does to stay at the top of the charts. When his current relationship fails and the young and beautiful scorned women spills all to the world, Eli finds himself in trouble. She is telling everyone that his love of larger women is a lie. Carly works for his manager and they make her an offer she can't refuse. Be his pretend "big" girlfriend for a year for a million bucks.
Carly has always known that Eli was full of it when it came to his music. She doesn't really want to participate in fooling the world. But it is a million dollars and she could use that money to change the world. Eli, of course, is bound and determined to make Carly admit that she finds him attractive. It doesn't take long and he has her moved into his mansion. She then has the pleasure of meeting his family , starting with his 10 year old sister. ( She has an eating disorder ) Carly sees the signs of his sisters problem when the rest of the family has turned a blind eye and tells Eli. He starts to pay attention and sees the signs himself. On a trip to meet the rest of his family Carly learns that Eli's life has not been all peaches and cream with his over bearing perfectionist mother.
All in all this book had some great points about self awareness and self esteem issues that everyone suffers through in silence these days. I really enjoyed this more than I thought I would.

Despite editing issues and despite the predictability of the story plot for me this was one of those rare reads that surpassed its failures and excelled in its execution, its characters and its emotional gratification.

At least it did for me anyway.

Loved This Story!

Loved Eli and Carly and all the crazy friends! First let me say that there were a couple of grammatical errors or typos, incorrect phrasing that I caught early on in the book. Better proof reading would have caught them. What were they? Honestly, I was so wrapped up in the story that I never highlighted them and forgot what they were, they ceased to be important. And if there were more further into the book, I never noticed, the story was that good!

Eli and Carly are great characters with hopes and dreams and even fears resulting from childhood issues. Both are strong, ready to fight for their dreams, but also have flaws. Each is blind to the other. She only sees a cocky, "assh%/#" and believes he's a liar. He doesn't even see her, she's off his radar, until circumstances force them together to save a career and she begins to realise there's more to him than she thought and he begins to " see" her.

Besides being a great love story this book has a valuable message to women or anyone who's ever been made to feel they are never enough, less than! Let's face it, we all have imperfections we're not happy with (too fat or too thin; full thighs or bird legs; too big a booty or not big enough; no boobs or too much; prominent nose or too thin lips), and we let others (friends, the media) tell us how we're supposed to look. This books message is that we ate all enough, we are all beautiful in our own way and we should be who we were meant to be and not someone else's ideal; that we should love who we ate and believe that we deserve happiness.

The cast of characters are bold and qwerky and endearing, and I loved them all. But i have to admit to a soft spot for Eli. (Probably because i've always been a sucker for musicians, especially ones who can sing and compose love songs to you....yeah...Eli's my new book beau!) This is one I will definitely read again!

I usually steer clear of the forced arrangement due to bad PR schtick, but I thought I'd give this one a chance. I'm glad I did! I totally hate Julie😋 she would have gone there if she had half a chance.

The fact both mc tried to kiss other people is horrible. I understand where Carly was at in her own head but still can't understand our hero. He was the one with everything good body, great talent, money, fame etc she was just a big-girl. I hated that. I wanted her to not have to always feel that way. To have media say such awful things about her. I hate how superior thin women feel around overweight women.

I read the trilogy enticed and felt that hopeless way about the heroine when she had to take the mean girl abuse from the ex wife. Some comediennes get this, like Amy Schumer when they say they'd rather be happy than constantly angry cause they are hungry!

I realize it's the beauty within but why do women in particular need to be so cruel to the sisterhood? It's a great story because of that angle of the plus or enlarged size statement. That story running in the background along with the usual relationship insecurities by both MC'.

I definitely like Ginger Voights writing style and she makes me feel what the heroine is feeling I will be reading more of her books 🙃

Hit some strings

I liked this book. Liked the evolution of the characters and that there was actual time for the H to change. The change in perception and attraction it didn’t just happen. Not sure I was a fan of his cheating but seeing as they weren’t really anything it didn’t detract but instead added to reinforce the H’s personality. I do feel that the “fat” thing was a bit much at times. For the first 3/4 of the book EVERYTHING was about weight descriptors (as for myself I’m a super curvy 12/14 and have never been called fat as often as these characters portray). But again all that aside she had trauma from her past that would, I imagine, shape her view and inner dialogue on the things surrounding. I woulda liked the point of view from H but it kept me reading to see how he really acted, but in my mind I just saw a giant jerk and a girl that didn’t take it but kinda took it. Instead of yelling f you just walk away or ignore him. But again for the characters that had been set and their personalities that had been described the writing did well to incorporate that and subtly change it over a long period of time so the reader could actually see it happening in a real HEA. I liked the writing with few spelling mistakes. Author did well

The book was ramping up to be one of my favorites. However, the ending was abrupt. It wrapped up so quickly I hadn't realised I was in the final scene.

I loved

- Eli, he's complex and funny
- the treatment of eating disorders
- the slow development, rounding out the characters

I wished

- for the ending to have more pizzazz
- for some more angst? there was potential to flesh out the misunderstanding.

I would love, love, LOVE to see an Eli-POV version of this book. Something similar to Never Been Loved by C.M. Kars. I would pant over this version since it might unravel how Eli fell in love with Carly when she didn't fit his preferred body type, which is central to the theme of their romance and what makes a story like this challenging. Without Eli's POV I'm left not understanding a lot of what's going on.

Saucy

I LOVED every moment of this book. I literally did not put it down till every page was turned and every word was read. You can't beat a fun read such as this one. You will laugh, cry, be triggered and sewn back together once your heart is ripped out and put back in. Not only was this book a knock out on the comedic factors but also on subjects that need to be talked about. Eating disorders are a very real issue. Having struggled myself for most of my life, it's good to know I'm not alone and having read about it fills a void I hadn't realized was empty. I have recommended this book to many of my female friends in hopes they read it and find a good take away such as I have.

Definitely better than I thought it would be. I love that I hated Eli. Many times I read books and the man it's always so perfect and a gentleman that it's just absurd. Even when they are supposed to be the "bad boy" type. The "stay away from me I'm no good But I can't stay away" and in reality they are just being too hard on themselves and blinded by other people's opinion..blah blah blah. Eli actually was a prick. and I loved it. I loved Carly's reaction to him even more. how she didn't take any shit from him and gave as good as she took. it's a pleasant surprise this read and it's one of my top 10 fave for sure.

Mind blown

This book is a definite discussion peace, it leaves you with a lot of mixed feelings and that’s not always a bad thing. From D main themes of body shape, and lifestyles to being driven and a feminist, this book touches on so many topics that its definitely something you have to read
But stick with it, around chapter 10 I wanted to throw in the towel, and chapter 15 Amy second-guess my idea to read the entire book, there are definitely other points or it gets frustrating, upsetting, and flat out unbelievable but there’s something charming about this book and love it or hate it, you’ll definitely have an interesting discussion about it

I loved this book! I liked the representation and all the characters (Carly in particular), and most of all, the fact that it TAKES ITS TIME! The protagonists don't just look at one another and fall into eternal love!
One other thing that I loved (and it's a personal opinion) is that Carly cut off her family because they were toxic and didn't endure them because "they were family". No! That's not a good enough reason to keep getting crashed by people who think you can't do anything right because you don't meet their standards. At the same time, I really appreciated Eli's family for actively trying to change when they see that the way they behave hurts Gaby. Love all around!

Loved this book!!

I was so excited when I read the blurb for this book. A romance novel with a "full-figured" heroine. Although I was a little disappointed, at first, to find that she was a size 14/16...not the best example in my mind, but Ms. Voight "redeemed" herself with the message she put out there. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever felt out of place in a world that demands perfection. Great job, Ms. Voight and I look forward to reading more of your books.

I don't know where to start. The book itself is a great read and I enjoyed it. I was so ANGRY with Eli the entire book, I seriously wouldn't have finished it if the writing wasn't as good as it was and the story itself wasn't so interesting. Even when he was being sweet I felt like he was a snake, I was yelling at Carly to run away! The way he talked to her and tried to manipulate her made me so mad! However it was a book worth finishing and I would recommend it. Just be sure to keep a pillow to punch handy.

This book is so good. It’s a stand alone but characters from other Ginger Voight books make appearances. The main characters are interesting and layered, making the story moving, sexy, and hard to put down. I first discovered this author though the Groupie Series, which I loved, and am a big fan of her angsty, heart wrenching, inspiring romances.

There were a few things that bothered me about this story but overall it was a fairly pleasant read. I would’ve liked to have heard Eli’s side of the story since he seemed to go from asshole to prince in a matter of pages at the end and I never felt like he genuinely gave a crap about Carly until the last few pages.

A Fabulous, Emotional Roller Coaster of a Book

Excellent!!

Where to begin, first I received this book free, thinking it's just a book to pass the time. Boy was I wrong this story tackled so many of today's topics, homosexuality, size, eating disorders and I'm certainly going to read the other ones

It’s ok

I felt like you get a lot on how the don’t get along or are too busy to interact. Yet you don’t see a whole lot of sweetness or a loving relationship develop. The ending is great. I love the happy ending. But that’s about it.

I'm not given this book any stars! This was a horrendous and painful reading. OMG.. this book is horrible. "Did not like it" can't come close enough to express my feelings about this book. It´s patronazing, full of sexists moments. The protagonists are awful, just plain awfu!
