Sara Jones escapes the police force to live in a quiet Cornish village—but she doesn’t escape far enough. Alan Meadows is tired of being a stranger and thinks now might be the right time to settle down—but he’s unsure who he can trust. Sin wants what she’s always wanted. Freedom.
This, the third in the series, was a more of a standard suspense/crime novel. Having read the previous two books, I didn't have to dig too deep to get to know the characters, as most of them evolved from the previous books in the series. It is well written and entertaining. It took quite a while to get to the premise of this story. If you want to get invested in series, this is as good as any. Book one is dark and sinister, but the next two are more typical crime thrillers, with lots of twists, turns and unpredictability. The characters are not stereotypes and have unusual flaws and backgrounds. Most are interconnected in some fashion, going back to the first novel. Given the setting of a smaller community, that is not surprising. The ending, although not shocking, was difficult to predict and different than what you might expect - but satisfying non-the-less.
I have loved all 3 books in the series! Read this one in less than 24hrs! I didn't want to put any if them down. The first in series is my favourite but I would reccomend them all. Lots of twists and turns that I didn't expect!
Really not as impressed with this one as much as the first 2. I gave them both 5* easily but this one I almost packed in around the 50% mark and again around 64%, when I realised I'd already gone too far to give up, then......such a pity. Granted, it has been over three years since I read the others and I had forgotten what they were about (but I refuse to reread a book to remind myself). It did all come back to me but if you're picking this up without reading books 1 & 2 first, I'd advise against it. It is in no way a standalone. Sara was a puzzle for me as I can't remember how I felt about her in the other stories, though I know I liked and still enjoy Sin's character a great deal. It's really disappointing that the author seems to have packed it in right now and not written further books, aside from a volume of shorts, which don't interest me. There's plenty of scope to carry on this series so I would hope she'll revisit her characters in the future, so we can join her. So, I didn't enjoy this one's story as much and there were a lot more mistakes as well, hence it only being awarded the 3* from myself. There were quite a lot of lines in dire need of a comma to make them make any sense as well: -Well on the plus side -She offered to bring me here now she's covering my uniform with wool..... -I'm not crazy at all I just need to get away.... -It looked like she was preparing for a formal introduction not greeting her son -She'll be wise to claim insanity we both know that A few too many examples, as you can see. Then the following sentence totally changes its meaning, and ALL for the inclusion of a needless space !! "And between them they had shed loads of the stuff...." Ouch ! Apostrophe mistakes here and there, missed off speechmarks, affect written instead of effect, stork not stock....all of these mistakes cost it dear. I really don't think the original books had these many mistakes. Perhaps the author lost interest, though I do hope not.
