When Tessa Walker stumbles upon a beat-up lump of muscle in a dark alley, against her better judgement she doesn’t walk away. The obnoxious, foul mouthed, jackass does nothing but piss her off from the get go. It’s not until she cleans up some of the blood and shit from his face while he’s sparked out, that she realises he’s a blast from her past.
‘Jack Deacon, cock of the school, every girl’s wet dream and utter arsehole. He was the most arrogant git all the way through high school, so full of himself he was overflowing, but for some reason everybody loved him. I was no exception.’ ‘He was my secret crush, the one that I compared every other guy to. Nobody ever came anywhere near. Yet here he is, right in front of me, and he doesn’t have a clue.’ “What’s your story?”
After leaving the army, Jack Deacon’s life has gone from shit to bone. Running up debts from gambling, owing money to the wrong people. All in an attempt to dampen down the continuous re-run of events in his head, and the feelings of guilt in his gut. When he wakes up battered and bruised on some chick’s sofa, he knows exactly who she is.
‘Tessa Walker, the specky geek with the bright sparkling eyes the colour of cognac and the most spectacular tits. Oh how I’d fantasised about those tits, taking one in each hand and burying my face right in the middle of them. Many a night I’d wanked with that vision in my head.’ ‘I bet she’s wondering what this is all about. It’s none of her business, I ain’t telling her shit.’ But hell! This is just the beginning…

This No Nonsense, Pull No Punches Story About A Broken Soldier Suffering From PTSD And The Geeky, Shy, Fulled Figured Beauty Is Amazing. It Doesnt Sugar Coat Anything, There Are No Smoke And Mirrors And Tessa's Reaction Are Exactly What You Would Expect In The Real World.
T.L Wainwright Is A Pure Breathe Of Fresh Air For Me. A Story About Real Life And Real Love. In Fact If Fucking Amazeballs To Say The Least. I Look Forward To Many A More Books In The Future From This Fantastic Author.
I had the absolutely pleasure of reading this before it was released and I loved every single part of it.
This story will make you feel so many different things from laughter to anger to wanting to punch Jack Deacon right in the b**ls...then to loving him...and his sexy mouth :-) The characters are sassy and are perfectly written for the story.
Tessa Walker stumbles across a beat up figure in an alley and after deciding to do the right thing, steps in and helps whoever it is. After getting the person home and cleaned up, she realises its non other than Jack Deacon, the cock of the school, the guy every girl wanted, and a complete "Jackass". Jack remembers Tessa as well and it seems to Tessa that he is still the same Jackass he was back in school. Tessa doesn't know the reasons why Jack is the way he is. After they begin to spend time together, the pair try to resist the obvious connection that is brewing between them.. without much success.
Will the pair manage to work through the issues they have and will Jack open up to Tessa and tell her about his past?
This was a spur of the moment download, as I had just downloaded Tomek and it said that to know the characters it recommended to read this book first.
The book is set in Leeds, UK. It follows the story of Tessa and Jack. In school she was the nerd and he was the one all the girls wanted. But what happens when years later Tessa stumbles upon a beaten and battered Jack?
Will their past stop them from getting together?
Jack teased Tessa throughout school, he was a total Jackass. Had he changed or was that the one thing that would never change?
The book slightly touches on trigger subjects that some people may find hard to read about.
I am now going to tuck into Tomek and find out his story.
Jack Deacon has done a few tours in Afghanistan, he is a sexy, arrogant, cocky man but has been left scarred, not in the way you think. Jack has got into some bad habits that leads him to get beaten up and left in an alley. When Tessa finds a stranger hurt she goes to help but when she realizes who it is she gets a shock that it is the one person she has had a crush on since playing a game of spin the bottle in high school. I really enjoyed reading this story of Tessa and Jack the humour, drama and love all worked really well and the subject of PTSD is well written as you get to understand the depth, desperation and guilt that is felt but with determination and help they can get through it to be the man/woman they are.
We've all done it. Crushed on the biggest dickhead in the world...Most of us wake up and realise that being treated like repeated one night stand is not the way to live your life...Unfortunately for Tessa she's falling her Jackass.
I really loved how we got to see from both Tessa and Jack's perspective. It really gave us an opportunity to get inside each of their minds and realise that, as if often the case, things are never how they appear to be...
A Thrilling, rollercoaster of a ride. Took me from screaming at both of them to roaring like a bitch. Not to mention the little twists and the not so subtle but fabulous crossover to Whole Lotto Lovin' 💖
This was the first book that I've read by this author. I love military storylines and this one appealed to me. I will admit, the first half of the book I disliked Deacon, he was as mentioned in the book a jackass. But, once we get to know the real him, what he's been through, and what he faces now, it changed my opinion. Tessa was a saint to put up with him at the beginning, I think i would have castrated him, but they both get the ending they deserve. If you like a military romance then this is a book for you.
I loved everything about this book, from the language the author used to the characters and the story. It's one of those books where you start off feeling one thing for the characters and end up feeling something else. Jack is sexy, hot, alpha and a tiny bit broken. You can't help but fall in love with him. Tessa is so real and someone you would have as your friend. She is also feisty, sexy and determined. With those two personalities you are bound to have sparks. The peripheral characters are great too and I can't wait to read more. I can't recommend this book enough.
You know those arseholes that deserve nothing but a good punch or three in the face? That's Jack... complete bastard!
Tessa is a beautiful character... one of those woman that is such a sweetie, but people treat her with so much disrespect and "piss taking" that you want to stand up for her and punch those fuc#ers too!
This story is a journey of massive proportion... a struggle for both Tessa and Jack. Yeah, why should we care about a prick that treats her badly... read on, you will understand.
I love the passion, the struggle, the cage fights and yeah OK, I (and you will) love Jack. Not as much as Tessa... she's not a push over and has some big kahunas and a heart of an angel.
The book had its dark moments... yeap, I cried like a baby at those, but it gives a tiny taste of the struggles our boys in the military have. I still want to punch him... HARD for his shitty treatment of Tessa!
So TL, when you question whether your stories are any good... I will bollock you (AGAIN). Your stories are passionate, heart breaking and freaking hilarious. Keep up the brilliant work lady, I look forward to your next.
After rescuing a guy who is all beaten up, realising he is someone she knew at school who she had a crush on, then finding out he is still the arrogant jerk he was back then, Tessa discovers she still likes him despite that. Deacon is arrogant, he also has his Demons. Time in the Army has left him with PTSD, nightmares and a need to forget, which brings him to being beaten and dumped. This is not a straight forward romance but more of a love-hate, hurt and beg forgiveness story, lots of angst and trust issues go side by side with the hot sexual hookups. It is a story with depth, there is a lot under the surface not apparent at first. You want to be angry at Deacon for being such an ass but the more you get to know him and understand why he is like he is the more you grow to understand and love him, you want him to trust Tessa and talk to her explain everything. I was gripped by reading and didn't want to put it down even when I was screaming at Deacon to sort himself out, I found it disturbing but moving, it made me think hard about all those suffering flashbacks and headaches because of PTSD. I feel for anyone going through these issues, scared to risk relationships in case they hurt without meaning to, wary of unexpected noises or crowds that can send them in a spiral out of control. Tessa is strong, feisty and loyal to those she cares for even if they don't deserve it, seemingly. Great story and well worth reading.
Wow! This action packed story has kept me consumed all day and I was picking up my Kindle to continue reading at every available opportunity. I couldn't get enough of Tessa and Jack who are my new favourite book couple! Their story has some darkness, but also lots of passion, and you really feel what they're going through. TL Wainwright knows exactly how to pull you into their story and keeps you hooked. Even though I've now got to the end, I desperately want to jump back in all over again and lose myself in this 5 star read
Jack really can be a 'Jackass' at times, but Tessa doesn't stand for it and is part of the reason he realises that he's spent the last 2 years just existing and needs to seek the help he should've accepted sooner. Tessa has insecurities despite coming across as strong and fiesty, but Jack openly shows her how beautiful he finds her and these scenes melted my heart. He was just what she needed, and she was what he needed. Tessa refers to them as 'soul mates' and I completely agree
This is a series where you know you're going to need to read the other books early on. You become curious about certain characters and aren't ready to say goodbye to them. I'm excited to start book 2, which is Tomek's story! If like me, you haven't started this series sooner, then I recommend you do today! You won't be disappointed!
This story could be a movie! I had so much fun spending time with Jack and Tessa.
Jack Deacon was the most popular guy in school and every girl wanted to date him. Tessa Walker was no exception. She was the geeky, more than curvy, freckle faced girl in high school and no one noticed her. Well, maybe her well-endowed chest. After a kiss shared during a game of spin-the-bottle, Jack takes notice.
Several years later, Jack and Tessa reunite after Jack has gotten himself into trouble. He’s working his way through what seems to be undiagnosed PTSD by gambling. Tessa finds him after he’s been discarded by his loan shark and cleans him up.
They seem to keep running into each other and every time they do, they rock each other’s’ world. Their only problem seems to be Jack doesn’t know how to deal with the feelings his new addiction, Tessa, are stirring up. While he continues to send mixed signals, she continues to give him chance after chance.
We can all find a piece of ourselves in Tessa. Second guessing our decisions, putting ourselves down, and wondering what more we could be doing to make them want us.
This book is full of ups and downs and sorts of steam in between.
Another new author for me in anticipation for Books on the beach at Blackpool next month. I loved that this was once again another British book. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book as suspense and military aren’t my normal go, but it wasn’t so much a military romance or suspense it was a beautiful love story about two young people trying to come to terms with their pasts and realise how they felt for each other, whilst still discovering who they are themselves. There was so much emotion in the story and depth to the characters that you can’t help but get caught up in the plot. I actually can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Fan me down! Jack is gritty and such a bad boy! Attraction to this alpha male is off the charts! Just like Tessa, I couldn't get enough of him. Whilst he caged his heart in the past, this messed-up chap can't get enough of the sassy, outspoken Tessa. Whilst her head screamed that she should kick him back every time he came knocking, her body reactions ruled her mind. This story was an absolute pleasure to read and I read in one sitting, as the twists and turns of this story, held me hostage to my kindle. Can't wait to read about Tomek now!
Enjoyable romantic drama set in Yorkshire, England. I loved the lingo, loved the characters and loved the story. Just look at that front cover, T.L. has the best covers and Jackass is exactly as I would expect him to be. As well as being sexy as sin he’s pigheaded, with a harsh exterior, cocky, arrogant and 100% alpha with a soft, mushy centre, perfect for quiet, naive Tessa. I was hooked from the get-go. I can’t wait to get started on Tomek, I’m loving these guys.
What a great story! I loved the story of Tessa and Jack. There was humour, drama and love in this tale. While the subject of PTSD is handled well, you understand the depths and desperation that Jack has been through and his determination to get through it to be the man for Tessa. This is the first book by T L Wainwright that I've read but it won't be the last.
This book is a little different to what I would normally read, but in my word this story is great. The story had me gripped from the start and I just couldn't put it down. Highly recommended.
T L Wainwright has done it again, only found the books a few days ago and demolished 4 already, moving on to the next. The books tackle real life issues and they are amazing. The author is amazing highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this book. Jack Deacon, is definitely one Jackass of a guy but I just couldn't help but warm to him. He has a past that makes him who he is and is destined to be until he stumbles across Tessa who he knew from school. I loved the character Tessa, she's not going to be messed around even if Jack has gotten under her skin. A real pager turner of a book as the story has some twists and turns in it.
This was the very first book I've read by this author. I'm goin to start by sayin I wasn't left disappointed. loved the entire storyline from start to finish. left me not been able to put the book down till I found out exactly what happened next. I really hope there's going to be another book follow on from deacon because I want to know what happens with deacon and Julia.....highly recommend to everyone to give it read
OMG! I loved this book, it had everything, angst, a cocky fighter/soldier who you really want punch in the junk and a mouthy, sarcastic, curvy heroine who you will love!
Jack Deacon was Tessa’s high school crush – she couldn’t wait to leave school after being made fun of by yours truly...Jack, and his friends. So when she stumbles upon someone battered and bruised when she’s walking home from a night out, she’s in total shock when she gets him back to her place and finds out it’s the one and only manwhore - Jack Deacon. She helps to clean him up, gives him painkillers and lets him sleep it off until he sneaks out while she sleeping. This sets off a series of events between the two which will leave you frustrated, and you will most likely want smack Jack for the way he treats Tessa.
I loved Tessa she’s sarcastic, tough and doesn’t take any messing from Jack. Jack is a rogue, but a lovable rogue, but he’s also HOTTT but he also has his own issues to overcome, it’s just a case of letting Tessa in and the case of a good hard kick up the butt to make him see what’s in front of him . Also if you haven’t experienced good old British banter in a book then this is the book for you. Tessa reminded me of myself while I was reading this. It was an awesome book and one that I would highly recommend!
Well done T.L Wainwright can’t wait for Allie’s book.
Deacon, honestly what a funny, quirky, hot read. Being a Northern Bird, I totally adored & laughed so loud at the way in which TL Wainwright wholeheartedly managed to write with a true Northern Brit accent. The humor throughout was grin worthy & I have to say, I very quickly fell for the cocky charms of one Mr Jack Deacon.
Jack Deacon - What a charmer he is & he really will try & charm the pants off you ladies. He is delectably freaking HAWT, pushy, charming & oh my god what a mouth!! Underneath all of that however is an ex soldier, haunted by the things he has seen & done, damaged & struggling to swim to the surface & take back his life.. Yeah, I wanna love this boy to death..
Then we have Tessa & honestly, she could be any of us. She is so very real, funny, clutsy, sassy with such a foul mouth I really did love her character, how she was so innocently naive when it came to Deacon, but how beautiful & caring her heart was - even if she did let her mouth engage before her brain in some really funny scenes. She is innocent & unsure which makes her really endearing & you hope beyond hope she gets her HEA
This story is really easy to read, the plot will leave a lump in your throat one minute & have you spraying your wine in the next.. Will they, won't they. Can Jack save himself as well as Tessa.Or will she slap the heck out of his sexy hot as sin mouth.... You have to read to find out!!
Deacon, Soldier, Fighter, Jackass is a classic tale. The kind we all know; geeky Girl crushing on the hot guy in school fast forward a couple of years and the geeky girls turned into a stunning beauty and the hot guy is still a hottie. Thanks to a chance encounter they meet up again. T.L. Wainwright gives a twist to this classic tale with Deacon. The hot guy may be the stuff dreams are made of but he's a jackass and that hasn't changed since highschool.
A one night stand leads to something more, when surly Jack now an ex soldier suffering from PTSD gives in to the temptation of pinup Tessa. There were so many twists with this book, the give and take between Jack and Tessa, left my head spinning. I wasn't sure whether I wanted the hero and the heroine to get together. I wasn't even sure if they would get together in the end (but they do shush sorry for the Spoiler). T.L. Wainwright really kept me on my toes with this tempestuous pair. 4 Stars for this Red hot read.
