I could not finish this one. I was unable to connect.
Dual POVs, third person. I think it would have been better if the writing stuck to one POV.

The characters had no substance. I felt like everything was told to me instead of allowing me to come up with my conclusions. The attraction felt too insta for me. I had no idea why the hero wanted anything to do with the heroine. She talked about change, but I felt she was too preachy.

Every chapter had a discussion about the Joy's weight. I get it...the heroine is a size 12 and does not care what she eats, bread, pasta, etc. I felt (my opinion) like the book was thin shaming. This book was not for me. You may love it.

This was pretty bad. Not only did she refer to a tattoo machine as a gun at least once a page. The cringe is real. She also had absolutely no character development. Like none at all, and the entire book felt so rushed. There was nothing that made me want to invest in the characters or the story.

Thank goodness this book was free.

Tattooist

This book had a promising plot that never actually did much. I'm not sure what the confessions were. The characters had possibilities but always seemed to fall short of what they could be.
I expect when I pay for a book to get something that lasts until at least the 90% mark. This ended at 75% and was followed by teasers.

I was super excited to read this book, I love me some tattooed romance but it unfortunately fell short. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the characters and the family drama but I felt like there were things that weren't delved into enough and left me slightly confused.

There were so many typos throughout the story such as extra and missing letters. It distracted from the story and drove me crazy.

As of now I haven't been able to finish this story, which is a shame because Iv dedicated a lot of my time to it. Usually I hate leaving loose ends in terms of reading books but I just couldn't find it in me to go any further.

Here's why :

1) Hawk and Joy's so called 'Love' story was far too insta for me. I hate that! It's not real. No one falls in LOVE in one day. If it's that easy to fall in to it, it's going to be mighty easy to fall out. Also (Spoiler) I'm really annoyed that they had sex on the first date... It contradicts all the reasons why Hawk likes Joy, and it also contradicts Joy's so called shy and reserved self conscious personality.

2) I thought that it was a bit annoying that the author kept bringing Joy's weight in to the equation. Like wtf her entire life doesn't revolve around her size 12 status.

3) Even though I did somewhat like the characters I felt as though depth was missing from them. They all seemed a little... Generic.

4) I like to be able to relate (even a little) with the characters I'm reading about. Personally Joy got on my nerves a bit (in some cases) for example the fact that she was changing and feeling more confident about herself based solely on the reason that hawk has taken a sexual interest in her kind of annoyed me. I like to see characters grow and become confident gradually through experiences and time. I find the whole ' I feel confident because guys are checking me out' thing a bit shallow to be honest. It's not something I'd feel EVER. Personally I feel a bit exposed and objectified in reaction to guys 'checking' out.

P.s I'm not saying that a mans love would or shouldn't make her feel more confident. I'm just saying that a man she recently met changed her so drastically, it's obviously not based on love. For those reasons I find it quite shallow. Not something I'd expect a main heroine to be.

5) there was a few scenes and events that just seemed unnecessary. All it achieved was dragging the already lacking story on a bit too long for my liking. I'm not usually a very critical reader however even I was annoyed by this.

I can't decide up this shod be 2 or 3 stars. The story line had some potential. I just feel the execution didn't work out. The story just seemed to end. There was no cliffhanger but it didn't seem to be the necessary falling action. I bought this free from Amazon so I feel that affects my enjoyment of this book. There were typos that bothered me. Also her roommate Pixie had a parrot; people should know they don't learn sentences that quickly and it sounds like the voice of the person who taught them. They don't really talk, they mimic. There was also a lot of telling and not showing.

Enjoyed the story but I have to say the author and editors missed something .... in the first of the book Hawk has jet black hair then later he has sandy dark hair????? Really!? As soon as I read jet black hair I realized the cover photo wasn't right... details details.

Her family, not the dad, was awful! The sisters was horrible and her own mother was so awful that I wished she didn’t get anything from the will.
The dad had been in an abusive relationship for so many years. It made me truly wish the mom got nothing but a bad bad end. I think this was an abusive relationship because of the way the mother treated him and her own biological child. I hated that he died while the mother got away with alooot of money she did not deserve. He should be the one alive and not her.🫣😤

Her brother though seemed nice but there wasn’t much of him in this book. Nothing to show his character and that.
Not much either from the sisters except one. One, I hated and also was so horrible to her. But then I think she learned that behaviour from Joy’s mother and a lot of other reasons.

Hawke seemed such a green flag guy. He treated her so nice even though she didn’t tell him about her family for a while. There isn’t so much information of his family though which I wished was included. I wanted to know more of his family dynamics and that Joy gets included in that one. She deserves a truly good family.🫶🏻
I also loved Joy. She was so cute but also so nice. I loved that she finally stood up to her mother.

The story was so good! Though I wish it was longer….
I loved the rockstar father trope. Hidden family and that.
It was also insta love and lust. I do love that trope in books if done correctly, and it did. ❤️

I can’t even remember reading this book, but a memory flickers when reading the synopsis. I guess a forgettable book warrants two stars.

Also, why is there an eBook update for it every couple of days? It bugs me.

A very nice beginning to a new series with sexy tattooed men and women. It wasn't exactly what I expected yet satisfying and sweet.

Hawke is a great tattoo artist. He even had his own reality show but that wasn't for him. We learn a lot about the man and his character is sexy yet sweet and hard not to fall for.
Joy comes from money yet wants nothing more than to give and help improve neighborhoods and enrich the lives who live there.

These two make for a powerful couple. They both see below the surface which isn't always easy. Hawke See's strength and beauty in Joy when her family has done nothing but put her down. Truth be told .....she outshines them by far.

I look forward to so much more in the tattoo series. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder......and the artwork an artist creates on skin can tell a story as well as an author does with words.

I tried really hard not to put this in my DNF list so I pushed through it. The writing wasn't great & the dialogue was crappy. Some of the things that the characters would say to each other had me cringing at times. Once Joy referred to Hawk's junk as a heat seeking missile while in the middle of sex. What?! Some of the ways that the details were written were just awkward & had me scrunching my face.

The story was lame, the sex was boring & the characters seemed a bit on the dull side.

I really wish there was more character development in this story, I could have really clicked with Joy and Hawk if this book spent more time showing not telling, which made the character's feel surface level at times, like they were cardboard cutouts that were just pushed around the page. This made me sad because the story was cute as heck and I really liked the basics for both of the main characters. Since this is a character driven book it would stand to reason the character's should shine and while they glowed slightly with potential they never got the chance to shine.

Biggest pet peeve is that Hawk is only described in detail twice maybe three times in this book. We do have references to his body, hottness, and panty-melting looks a lot, but actual descriptions, not so much and the ones that are there are different. Page 8- "He's panty-melting hot thanks to his sandy dark hair..." One page later (Page 9) "He was tall, six-foot-two, and leanly muscled. His jet-black hair, cut into an elegantly messy style..." Then again on page 129- "His sandy dark hair had been combed." Do does he have black hair or dark blonde? Main character description continuity errors in this short a book with only three real descriptions is just lazy editing, not to mention the slew of missing or wrong words, like "her" being on the page instead "where". If it had only been a few instances it would have been fine, but it happened often and pulled me out of the story when I had to reread a line or try to figure out what was trying to be said.

Again, this wasn't horrible, it needed a lot of polishing and could have fleshed out the characters more if it was a little longer. By leaning into showing us Joy and Hawk instead of telling the reader everything it would have added a depth that lead to a better connection with the characters urging the reader to care about them.

The book was short and had a large portion of the end pages dedicated to another book/story (a spin off from this) and I just don't like that, what I bought was Joy and Hawk's story. What I got was the last 40ish pages of another book and that is not right. An excerpt of another book is generally expected.

My rating is a 2.5-2.75, I do recommend it if you want a simple, sweet story and can stand the errors.

This is not very good at all.

You have a woman who is using her trust fund to play at reshaping LA neighborhoods but spends most of her time obsessing over her weight and bad relationship with her family. She's a sharp one, as we're told "it hit her that the answer was to revitalize the lower-income neighborhoods while keeping the prices down." Like, really? That's all it takes to have cheaper houses? Keep the price down? Okay!

She meets a tattoo artist who has a perfect body, but of course doesn't like slender women. They meet and you think they're going to face various obstacles and . . . they don't really. I spent most of the book waiting for something to happen. Surely the promised confession will materialize at some point and shake things up, right? Nope. There's no confession, just several scenes of potential drama that evaporate instantly.

The author doesn't even care enough to have the cover picture match the description of the male MC (he's described as having black hair in the book).

PS - authors, it really doesn't "add character" to have your MCs trash the prospect of having a single meal without meat. It's petty and just makes your characters look silly.

Also, you should really not tell guys that you're on birth control if you're not. If your doctor tells you that you will have a "long time" of protection after you stop taking it, you should interrogate that! ("“It’s okay. I’m on birth control.” Or was she? In order to get the surgery, she’d had to stop taking it, but the doctor had sworn it would stay in her system for a long time since she’d been on it for so many years.")

Editing is rough, with words used incorrectly.

Joy is a big girl who can't seem to find love that wants her for her. Every man she's ever dated has wanted things from her especially after they find out who her father is. So her best gal pal, Pixie, introduces her to her boy pal, Hawk, who just happens to be a famous tattoo artist. Not realizing that each of them had sized each other up and liked what they seen it took a day before things came apparent. Joy went to visit Hawk on her own and asked for the impossible to be done. He did in a lovingly way that made him do the improbable and ask her out which she stuttered through with a yes. Their date was the best first date I would love to have myself. Even though they fell in bed together that first night, it was all worth the craziness that ensued, afterwards, with her family and Hawk finding out who she was that made this book special. I can't wait to see what the other books in this series are like.

I’m reviewing the audio edition. This is advertised as a dark romance. I read a lot of dark romances and this story has nothing dark as far as I heard. I really liked the characters. Joy is so independent yet insecure. Hawk is the type guy that is fun. His stereotype is a lot rougher than he is. His protectiveness warmed my heart. His ability to look at the person rather than the looks was a plus also. For a rather sweet romance it is a good story with plenty of side issues. Aundrea Mitchell did a good job narrating. She made Pixie and Joy feel so real. I don’t know if the author does the titling or if its someone else but I’m taking away 1 star for misrepresentation of the dark part. I received a free copy and this is a honest review.

the book was ok. I really liked Joy and Hawk. they were perfect for each other and pixie was adorable. I don't care much for 3rd person books. it sounds weird to me. joy comes from a famous father and a witch of a mother and some step sisters. they degrade her and belittle her constantly which is horrible for anyone to deal with. joy is driven and wants to change the world. Hawk is a tattoo artist who worked his way from the bottom up. they make a great pair. the story was cute how they fell in love despite Joys insecurities. the book had a great storyline but just feel a little flat and it felt rushed.

I really enjoyed it. It was funny, short and a little steamy.
The writing is very engaging. I love it.
The characters are very real. I'd like to have a cheerful friend like Pixie. Joy had a difficult relationship with her family, I can totally relate to her cruel and toxic mother. And of course the tattooist was a good man
What I got as a message: trying to understand your family and learning to let go. (What a way to confront her mother! Whoa)
The end: Joy had a great father, really! Being a hopeless romantic I wish the proposal would have been more romantic, though.

3.5 stars to Confession of a Tattooist by Lexy Timms
This was a great read. I really likes Hawk and Joy . I love when a writer gives us a character who you expect to be this bad boy because of his appearance then when learn he really isn't . Joy has had a rough light always being put down by her famous mother and siblings. She is worried that no man will ever like her for her , they will only want her because of who her family is . These two really are great characters and this is a great story . Worth the read.

It was okay. I liked the plot line, but it was just too cheesy for me. I like a little more grit and darkness in my books. Also, the book could really use an editor. I don't mind a few typos or duplicated words, but when I have to reread a paragraph over and over just to make out what the sentences are trying to say...no thanks. I really like this author, as I've read many of her books and enjoyed most of them, but this one fell short.

I was really enjoying this book and felt like it was really building and then it just kind of fell flat. Not badly flat, it just went nowhere for what felt like the second half of the book. To say I was shocked when I got to p168 and it ended is an understatement, particularly considering this was a 236 page book. Not that I wanted the story dragged out any further, but 70 pages of back matter? It seemed more than a little excessive.

Fabulous idea and storyline, but it missed it's mark a little bit. As a reader, I would have liked to know more about the relationship that Hawk and Joy ended up having. They liked each other, that was obvious, but I needed a little more. It also felt rushed to me. I would liked to know more about themselves and then as a whole. Overall a good read.

Story 3/5; Spice🌶 1.5/5; Overall 2.5/5 ⭐️
I enjoyed the story. I liked the charactes. It was overall well paced until the end. I think it could have used multiple more chapters since the ending was like a brick wall.
I enjoyed the few spicy scenes but I definitely wouldn't recommend this as a "spicy" read. It's more of just a simple romance. Age recommendation - 18+

This was a great story hawk who is great at at what he does finds the woman he can't stop thinking about. Joy has been treated badly her whole life by her family and people who want to get to her family. Can these two make a match?

This is a quick, easy read that gives you a steamy contemporary romance with a great story. The author mixes the story line in with the romance in a wonderfully blended way so you don't feel there is too much of either.

Although I liked the characters and the lack of unnecessary drama, this book fell flat for me. Everything felt 2 dimensional and some aspects felt like they were thrown in for potential drama.
It was not poorly written or ridiculous, it just lacked depth.

Tell no lies

Good book. He did not like lies and she thought like the others, he would only want her for her money and connections. Horrid family driven to ridicule others who don’t adhere to society ideas, and the incessant love of money. Love the twist at the end.

I found the novel slow to get going.... but once i did i saw the beauty in it named "Joy". Some real humour also, classic banter between a porn star and a hoity toity mother who just so happens to be "Joys" mother.. And wise ass bird that thinks Pixie is insane! Lol
