Is love enough to overcome a lifetime of orders and coldness?

Jago has known Corbin is his mate for a while now, but he gave him all the time and space he needed in the hope Corbin would decide he wants Jago. He knows it’s not going to be easy because of Corbin’s past and what he was raised to be, but he has hope. Then the creature that haunts the woods around pack territory kidnaps Jago, and Corbin comes to his rescue. It doesn’t mean all is flowers and rainbows between them, though.

Corbin doesn’t know what to do with Jago. He’s been raised to be cool and emotionless, and Jago is threatening that. Corbin doesn’t know how to be different, but the lure of having a mate and all it entails is calling out to him, and Corbin wants to surrender. The only thing stopping him is himself, but when he hears Zach and Jago talk about what Jago’s father has done to him, he finally caves in. Jago needs him, and Corbin can’t resist the mating instinct that’s growing inside.

Jago and Corbin mate and everything is right in their world—for a little while. Corbin is still trying to navigate his new relationship and to become more human when a menace both new and old rises on the horizon, putting him and everything he now holds dear in danger and changing their lives forever.

Catherine is the creator of several series, most of them paranormal, including the Whitedell Pride Series and the Gillham Pack Series. While she graduated in translation, she decided to go the writer’s way because it was more fun to create her own stories and characters.
She’s been living in Italy for more than twenty years, but she’s a daughter of the North—Belgium to be precise—and she misses it so much that she’s already planning to move back.
She loves pizza—probably too much —her pets, and of course, books. She sneaks some reading time in her schedule every time she has five minutes free from writing, demands from her various pets and son, and lastly, housework.

I think it was sudden how quickly Corbin gave into Jago after those 6 months, because it had seemed that Corbin was resolute in staying away, but then he was all over Jago (in a Corbin fashion) suddenly and saying he wanted to mate. I can understand slightly because Corbin probably had been following Jago that whole week, even if he wanted to stay away, but that was brushed over and wasn't fleshed out at all. I did enjoy this story more than the others though. I don't know what that says about me this was an interesting read to me.

Summary:

Once again, the damage that the Glass Research Company rears it's head as Corbin and Jago try to put together the pieces of their lives. Corbin was created by the scientists of Glass to be used as a killer with no understanding of what it means to be human. Jago was taken and tortured for no other reason than to give them information about elephant shrew shifters like him. It became more complicated when Jago and Corbin knew they were mates. Even after everything he had been through, Jago's friendly and loving personality was at odds with Corbin's inability to understand emotions let alone mates. It was wonderful how Jago's love and acceptance gave Corbin support and time to decide what he wanted, even if that wasn't him. Jago had been keeping a secret that was a complete surprise taking the story in a direction this reader never expected. I for one can't wait to see what is in store next in the Gillham Pack series.

Good, but...

Had good flow, for the most part, but I'm wondering if the editor bothered to read the words or only hit spell check. There are misused words, a few words that don't belong in the sentence they appear in, and even a case of flip flopped words. No switched up character names that I noticed, but honestly what's the point of editing if you're not going to bother to read the actual words you're supposed to be double checking?

I gave it four stars anyway because despite the errors the plot flowed well enough and didn't grind to a screeching halt at a mistake, making me reread a sentence or paragraph in order understand what was trying to be said.

I've been curious about Corbin for a while and really wanted his story to stand out. Sadly it didn't. It was average even if it was sweet. The background story with the Glass- research and bad guys seems to have really taken a backseat and is on a slow burn even if this book reveals the creature. I really would have wanted the author to elaborate a bit more about the creatures background and inner workings.
I will probably continue to read the series because if you've come this far why stop?

Jago and Corbin are my new favorite couple. Corbin really surprised me with how well he took to being mated. His actions spoke louder than words, and he showed Jago just how much he cared for him. I loved it. I also loved that before they knew who they were to each other, Corbin was already in caring, protective mode.
