In Horror in the Mind, Mark Tyrrell tells stories of many case studies from his long experience of treating post-traumatic stress disorder. You'll learn how PTSD presents, how it affects people, how to test for it and how to test that it's gone. Mark also describes what he sees as being the ethical way to treat PTSD without causing additional distress for the client. You'll hear how he has used the same approach to help survivors of rape and attempted murder, to people who've witnessed unspeakable death and destruction. He examines popular treatment models for PTSD including CID, EMDR, EFT and the Rewind Technique and describes what he considers the best approach. This in-depth introduction is followed by 9 articles on PTSD from his 1) Is your client traumatized? 2) Could it be PTSD? 3) Is it crucial to identify the initial event that created a trauma pattern? 4) Why there's no need to relive the trauma all over again 5) Why I never have my clients relive their traumatic experiences 6) Why PTSD and phobias are a case of bad hypnosis 7) Is trauma locking your client in depression? 8) Helping your client readjust to life after trauma 9) Encouraging post-traumatic growth in your client.
I should have this book review done hopefully in a week or two weeks. Regardless, this book puts a new perspective on PTSD. I need to think more to write a review because this book gives me a lot of questions. Mahalo.
Update 5-25-18 My feelings about this book are still mixed. Mostly negative. However, I could be wrong. I am open to seeing it in another light. I have PTSD. It why I have mix feelings. Since that might make me biased, I am going to skip this review. Mahalo.
The author told us why his technique works and why other techniques don’t work. I agreed with some of what he said and there is some interesting information. However, I felt the book was basically a long infomercial for his course. Maybe I will someday take the course in the Rewind Technique. But right now I feel disappointed that he didn’t share more of the “how” in this book.
I've been following Mark Tyrell YouTube channel( https://youtube.com/c/UnkPractitioners) for awhile.. he introduces very helpful content for practitioners and also non practitioners
It's a brief book about PTSD but very helping and substantial Just wished more details about rewind techniques application more of HOW But seems like Tyrell excluded it to his online course
Clearly explains trauma and the process of removing it painlessly
Tyrrell does an excellent job of clarifying the causes of PTSD and other trauma, and delineates the boundaries between good and bad trauma processing methods. Although this text was written for clinical folk, it's devoid of technical jargon so that even the person experiencing trauma can understand the "how" of their problem, and the "why" of choosing Rewind therapy to break the negative conditioning of trauma.
The ego of this man is unbearable, acting like he’s gods gift to earth while writing an 100 page long ad for his online classes. Full of holes and pseudoscience which is a shame because the rewind technique is actually interesting and would help a lot of people if it was used alongside some of the techniques (with actual referenced merit) he spent half the book shitting on.
Mark has lifted the veil on a topic that has left many wandering in the wilderness of turmoil with no guidance and shown us how to comfortably navigate it. A concise and enlightening read that I would recommend to anybody in the/a "hepling" profession.
