Time does not heal all wounds. Soldiers like ‘Spider’ know that better than anyone else. She sacrificed arms and legs fighting wars that were not her own. Worst of all, in order to survive in the battlefield she replaced lost limbs with cybernetic prostheses and even altered her genes.

In this future, soldiers are not expected to return home.

But, against all odds, Spider finds herself back in the place where it all began— but the clock hands near midnight, and destruction is imminent. Seeking a way to save millions of lives, Spider and a group of unlikely allies attempt the impossible.

Unfortunately, time is not on their side. And, before the world can come to an end, Spider will find herself face-to-face with a phantom from the past. At the peak of midnight, and with the fate of countless in her hands, Spider will remember the ultimate truth…

The third instalment in the Mercenary Heart serial novel. It does not disappoint, carrying on seamlessly and letting us into more of the secrets Spider holds close to her heart. Faced with an event that may wipe everyone out, she's having to face her own fears and deception. A twist I did not see coming and leaves me desperate for the next instalment! M. Kirin has once again written a descriptive, imaginative and insightful glimpse into the world of cyberpunk and dystopia. My only disappointment comes from it being only a small piece, but with a new part released every month, the next one shouldn't be too far away and that means being able to pick up this story again and feed the monster within me who must know more! They are an excellent writer, skilled with their craft knowing how to give you just enough to keep you wanting more. Highly recommended!
