Good book. Jon is new to Rust Creek Falls, having answered an advertisement for a pediatrician. He has some heartbreak in his past and has kept his emotions under control ever since. Dawn grew up in Rust Creek Falls and has come home after working in a city hospital. A recent romance has reinforced her distrust of men.

The initial meeting between Dawn and Jon didn't go very well. Jon isn't very good at talking to women, as he'd always been more interested in doctoring than flirting. Unfortunately, he managed to come across as judgmental and pompous and wasn't able to correct the impression before she walked away. Dawn had noticed his good looks when he first came in, but when she found out he was the new doctor she'd be working with, all her warmth and friendliness vanished. She was also irritated by his attitude about the infamous spiked punch incident (series Montana Mavericks: What Happened at the Wedding).

Dawn had been burned by getting involved with a doctor at her previous job. It turned out that he was engaged and hadn't told her, making her look like she'd knowingly been involved with another woman's man. After it came out, she was treated badly by others at the hospital, making her working life miserable. She left there to come home and work at the clinic, vowing she'd never get involved with another coworker. His lies and omissions also reinforced her distrust of men, thanks to the actions of her father. He had left the family, and his subsequent actions were extremely erratic and unreliable. Since that time, she has had trouble believing that men could be relied on.

Jon had his own issues that kept him somewhat isolated. While working as a doctor in a hospital, he had lost a young patient unexpectedly and it made him question himself. He took a job in Thunder Canyon to get away and heal. The effect the loss of his patient had on him also caused a rift between himself and the woman he was living with, making him reluctant to get involved again. After a few months of quiet at Thunder Canyon, Jon is ready for something more and joins the clinic at Rust Creek Falls.

Though their first meeting didn't go well, there were obviously sparks between them. Dawn is determined to keep it professional and treats Jon very differently than everyone else. I liked that Jon was determined to fix it and loved seeing him challenge her. Jon would really like to get to know her better, but accepts her reasons for being just friends. However, it's pretty obvious that they aren't going to be able to stick to it.

I loved watching the relationship develop. With Dawn's help, he finally saw that he wasn't solely to blame for the end of his previous relationship. I liked seeing the way that he was there for Dawn during some of her family issues, and that he helped her see things from a different perspective. When they cross the line from friends to lovers, both of them panic a little and try to go back to being just friends. He resisted the idea that he was falling for her until it was impossible to deny. Dawn realizes she has fallen for a man who probably won't stay in town. A medical crisis that has the potential to pull them apart, instead opens their eyes to what they really want. I loved Jon's big moment at the end.

I also liked the storyline involving Dawn's mother and father. His reappearance in their lives gives Dawn the chance to see her parents' relationship through the eyes of an adult rather than a child. She's very antagonistic at the beginning, but slowly begins to get to know him. I liked the tipping point in their relationship, as Hank is there for her when she thinks things are falling apart between her and Jon.

Dr. Jon Clifton is a top Notch Pediatrician. He came to Rust Creek after an a baby book to work in The clinic. After losing a young patient that he was close to he went to work in a resort that was a mindless job for someone like him. He also realized that his relationships with women were failing. He just did not understand women. He was book smart but apparently had no street smarts with women. His nurse came from a level one pediatric teams center. She too was too notch. She left her job after she became the other woman having an affair with an engaged new doctor at her hospital. When Jon arrived at the clinic, she took his breath away but he tried to be cool saying all the wrong things. While they were working, she fell in love with him. Every one in town knew they had eyes for each other but them. He though he just said all the wrong things. She thought he did not return her feelings. Cute read.

SE2491. Aug2016. Montana Mavericks: the Baby Bonanza #2. Dr. Jon Clifton, pediatrician, has just begun working in Rust Creek Falls Medical Clinic. He's there because of the baby births due to Homer Gilmore's moonshine prank. Dawn Laramie, nurse, is leery after her experience with an untrustworthy doctor and her unreliable father.

Ok

It was okay. I don't know if something was cut out of the final cut or not but it just suddenly came together.

I appreciated that the characters had clear communication in the beginning. I thought it was an interesting but sweet dynamic for Jon to help Dawn reconcile with her estranged father.

I was very annoyed near the end of the story when Dawn was all upset and lost all her previous communication abilities. I wanted to slap her upside the head when she claimed that Jon had rejected her after having sex. You were the one who said in the car ride home after sex, “It doesn’t mean anything.” And then you presumptuously took Jon’s silence as rejection. Dawn, you were the one who was rejecting him. I wish that the fact that Jon rejecting Dawn was false had actually been acknowledged within the story.

Jon is a pediatrician who has arrived in Rust Creek Falls to work at the town's clinic. One of his brothers has a ranch nearby and this will be good place for him to recover from his broken heart.

Dawn is the pediatric nurse at the clinic. She lives with her mother and has sealed her heart against any involvement with men. Her history includes nothing but men who have disappointed her, her mother and sister.

Dawn is an interesting woman who is very unwilling to give any man a chance to prove himself to her. She feels certain that there is nothing that anyone can do to merit her forgiveness. She was difficult for me to absolutely love. But, I did want the best for her.

Jon is a man who feels that he wants to help anyone and everyone who needs his help. His generosity of spirit is one of his best qualities. He is a very likable hero.

This is a small town story filled with terrific characters who provide a wonderful depth to the story. The secondary characters and the friendly and supportive atmosphere add a great deal to this story.

I won this book in a contest. I am voluntarily providing this review. All opinions are my own.

Dr. Jonathan Clifton came to Rust Creek Falls Medical Clinic as their new pediatrician after being dumped by his fiancee to be nearer his family.
Dawn Laramie had come earlier after a new doctor at her previous hospital seduced her, neglecting to tell her he was engaged....but his fiancee told everyone upon her arrival, making it impossible for her to stay. Just one more Laramie woman done wrong by a man
The small clinic carried a large caseload and the staff needed to become a team.
After a rocky start and some misunderstandings, the whole team did become a tight unit. Jon and Dawn gave into the strong attraction..eventually...when their original misunderstandings were dealt with.
Sweetly written clean romance.
I received an advance copy free to garner my honest opinion.

Southwick’s latest fantastic Maverick’s of Rust Creek Falls MT is a frienemies to lovers tale that hooks from the get-go. Her humor filled, flirty narrative that showcases small town-itis also gives readers a fly on the wall, entertaining peek of love blooming between her heroine with abandonment issues and her wary of losing his heart hero. Her co-star catch up and the adorable little three-legged rescue dog wonderfully complete the package.

Pediatrician Jonathan Clifton would love to present a second first impression to a certain blonde blue-eyed beautiful nurse, but he’s never had a way with words or women.
Dawn Laramie is determined not to fall under the spell of yet another silver tongued and shallow albeit sexy doc. She’s been there – done that!

Dawn and Jon didn't exactly start on the right foot. But then again the last relationship Dawn had was a married man and learned not to date anyone she works with any more and now has trust issues. The fact that Jon is pretty hott and charming doesn't help and its becoming harder with each meet to stay away.

I enjoyed this heartwarming short read. I enjoyed the characters and liked what went on with Dawn and Jon. I loved getting that bit of backstory with Jon. There was enough of drama going on to keep things interested. Overall this was a pretty enjoyable read.
