The Last Valkyrie: Three Rings, Three Kings

“Being the last of anything just sucks, for the record.”

~Kara

An ancient Dragon, a mischievous Elf, and a Dwarf with the ability to tattoo spells that hide so many things, all have one thing in common: Kara-the last Valkyrie.

Zane, a powerful Dragon who lives in Midgard, has been hiding an important treasure since the Valkyrie genocide two-hundred and fifty years ago. He’s been hiding Kara, protecting her from the Gods that want Ragnarok to occur, and from herself. It has been hot as Hel on their mountain for the last few hundred years and she’s over waiting for her Dragon to acknowledge it. Zane is hiding things from her and not giving her what she really needs...silly Dragon, a female won’t wait forever.

Rune is an ancient Elven playboy with his own secrets, and a world filled with concubines and power. He gets a lot more than he bargained for when he signs up to help her through her magick training. He surprises himself to learn it is not a bad thing.

The Dwarf? Well, you'll learn more about him and his riveting role in this gripping story.

Kara's been hidden in the mountain with Zane, learning the histories of the realms, and how to fight like a true Goddess. After two-hundred and fifty years of training, she can barely best Zane in battle, but she can kick the ass of any other breathing thing. Too bad she needs more than the ability to fight with weapons. Kara needs a little normalcy, a lot of love...and she needs to learn how to set the Gods free so the maniacs of ‘Pro Ragnarok Nation’ don’t get their wish to destroy all the realms and start over with new thrones to be claimed. Hel. To. The. No. She’s going to figure it out. She has to.

As Kara learns more about herself and about the world, she finds that nothing is as it seems...not even her. She will learn shocking truths and hidden lies, and at the end of the day, she’s in the midst of them all.

Even the greatest of beings can only be broken so many times before they lock away their heart and draw their sword instead. Kara’s sword, and her tongue, are sharp and ready. But after everything she learns, her sword is bound to get heavier, and the prospect of a new world isn’t seeming all that bad in certain brief moments of time. Except the part where she would never see her family or those she loves again.

Moment gone, sword ready.

This is her story, and ours, as we feel the cold bite of the first winter of Ragnarok in our world. Once the ship of the Dead has gotten off its mooring, no one anywhere will have the power to save us all.

Like any author, you can find pieces of me in my words. The worlds within the canvas of my mind are open to you all in my work. They say that Authors write from what they know (or should!) and I am no exception to that.

My latest release, urban fantasy romance that is steeped in the Norse Mythology of Ragnarok, is the first of its kind in the adult market. It just won an award for best New Adult Romance a month from being published. I'm quite pleased with the reactions from both contemporary and fantasy romance readers alike for "The Last Valkyrie."

I'm an avid dreamer both sleeping and awake, and believe that hard work and originality pay off in the long run. I love my daughter, reading, hiking, movies, cooking divine and healthy meals, yoga, swimming, playing in the rain, writing, traveling, and fine wines. ***Please note, copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review***

COVER-5 stars, easily! It isn't like something similar hasn't been done before, and often, yet everything singe thing about this cover just works. Perfect.

As for the story itself, I may be in the minority here, but it was just 'ok' for me. I didn't hate it, not by any means. I just didn't love it. Not like I thought I would. Years ago, I read another work by this author and just fell in love. Ms. Sage was immediately added to my 'I WILL READ ANYTHING YOU WRITE' list. Even though The Last Valkyrie didn't wow me, my list remains unedited.

My biggest problem was that I didn't care for our heroine Kara. In fact, I really, REALLY disliked her and found her to be immature, needy and flat out annoying. I guess I'm just over this type of storyline where the heroine goes from gum smacking, "omg he's so hot" moments to "I am woman, hear me roar!", all in the blink of an eye. These aren't specifics, mind you, just explaining the vibe I got. Add to the fact that I only liked Zane (one of our two male leads) for about 2 seconds, yeah...you could say I struggled a bit. I'm a whore for the romance and I need it sprinkled throughout. I felt like the pacing there was a little choppy and possibly added to my inability to really feel anything for Zane whatsoever. There was some repetitiveness that worked my nerves a bit. V-thing, K-thing etc and had there been just one more reference to her 'gape', I may have just completely flipped my shit.

Enter Rune. YES!!! Team Rune ALL. THE. WAY. Rune, with a side of Axel and the far too few interactions between the Gods, carried this book for me. Rune was my ultimate standout. Their entire world can come crashing down around them but as long as Rune remains standing, I'm good with that! Will I read book 2? Absolutely. In fact, the tentative release date is on my birthday (Aug. 8th)!!! My hope is to find something likeable in Kara. I need to see her as worthy of her title. Zane, meh. and lastly, but most certainly not least, even MORE Rune!

The Last Valkyrie by Jennifer Sage is the most amazing book I have read from her. The Guardian Archives is beyond hott and fierce but TLV has hit on key points I love in reading. I have 2 favorite genres-Valkyrie and Elf. OMG what she has done with these characters and so following the Norse Mythology is beyond Phenominal. I absolutely lust Rune, Zane, Odin, and even the ass Gunnr. But no spoilers, soo I was swept into the Valkyrie world and all of Kara's shenanigans. She is absolutely stunning with that red hair with the white streak and her beautiful eyes. Not telling you the color, just read it for urself. Ohh and make sure you take out Fire And Flood protection before you read this book. It will melt ur kindle with its heat and all the drool will drown your kindle. I'm not very good with reviews but The Last Valkyrie is Fantabulous and is something I have never read before. I'm totally hooked. Kudos to Jennifer Sage and The Last Valkyrie.

*** Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest and fair review***

I took a dramatic and exciting change of pace from my usual rom-com genre when I turned the first page of The Last Valkyrie. I immediately embarked on a paranormal journey that kept me in its grip till the very last word.

Unlike any paranormal story I’ve read of late, The Last Valkyrie is beautifully written and a wonderful beginning to a great story. A perfect story of a heart full of love splintered into unrecognizable shards by secrets and lies. Kara, the last Valkyrie of questionable origin, survives a culling and is given as a baby to Zane for safe keeping. Zane, a mighty, powerful and sexy dragon, accepts his fate by training and teaching the young Valkyrie what she will need to know in order to fulfill the prophecy and her destiny. However, over the next two hundred and fifty years, the purest love Zane has ever known grows and cripples him immensely, both day and night. Unknowing of Zane’s self-inflicted torture, Kara has a soul deep love for Zane and suffers frustration for her dragon’s love and touch. What stands in their way? Zane. Zane has deep dark secrets he truly believes Kara will never forgive once they are revealed.

Jennifer Sage out does herself in this book. I loved that the story intertwined Norse lore with contemporary romance. The setting and the descriptions of the different places in the book were so vivid you only had to close your eyes and open your mind’s eye to see Midgard. Most importantly what sold me on this book was the vivid descriptions of the characters and their character development throughout this first book. As I approached the end of this first book, I not only wanted to be a Valkyrie with my own fiery hot, sexy Dragon, but also wanted an Elf as a best friend and a Dwarf as a dad!

Even though the above is true, a few things in this story did not appeal to me. The first being at some points Kara whined a little too much. I found myself wanting her to be stronger or maybe harder or truer to her warrior nature. Another thing is in some places it became repetitive in regards to how and what Kara felt for Zane and what she is destined to do. Lastly, I felt in some instances the transitions from the folkloric nature of speech to the contemporary side bars did not always go smoothly.

Did these things detract from the story in any way? Absolutely NOT! Would I read or buy the subsequent books penned by Jennifer Sage? Absolutely YES! That being said, I can safely say I have added another author to my paranormal shelf. I simply need more of this story. Yes, there is no HEA yet, but that’s expected since this is only the beginning of the trilogy. I now find myself waiting anxiously to see what happens next.

A MUST READ!! JENNIFER SAGE’s BEST BOOK YET!!

This book is truly one of a kind. To compare this book with any other paranormal or urban fantasy book would not do it justice. This is a truly one of a kind story. If you have never read any of Jennifer Sage’s books this is the one to read first. If you have read her other books, be prepared to be blown away. She has created a world in this book that you can see so vividly in your mind as you are reading. You will fall in love with Kara, Zane, and Rune as well as the other characters she has brought to life in this First book of the Trilogy. I have always loved Norse mythology and have read every bit of it I could find from the time I was a kid, She has taken the Norse mythology of Ragnarok and turned it into a masterpiece while staying as true to the mythology as possible. I read this book in a day because I truly could not put it down once I started reading it. (YES it is that good) Break out the tissues, get ready to laugh, cry, yell at your Kindles or e`readers and at times even throw them across the room. I must also say this book is not for anyone under the age of 18 due to some steamy scenes in the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Paranormal, fantasy, or just wants something different from all the Vampires, shifters etc that are out there right now. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Overall this was a great book. It has steamy hot dragons, sexy elves and dwarf's. Kara spent most of her life being raised and protected by Zane. Whom she is totally in love with, but he refuses her, saying it is his job to protect her. Then she meets Rune, the sexy elf. Along comes the pending end of the world and it is her job to save it. I enjoyed the book and story line. However, Kara was way to whiney for me. I felt she needed to be slapped or worse, but that's just me. Her character did not take away from enjoying the book thought, overall it was really good.

Buongiorno care fenicette,

oggi vi parlo del libro “The Last Valkyrie: Tre Anelli – Tre Re” di Jennifer Sage. No è un’ingiustizia bella e buona.

A presto.

Holy Hel (you’ll understand why I spelled Hel that way when you read this story)!!!!!! When I read an author and completely fall in love with him or her, I typically expect their next book to not surprise me – not shock me into speechlessness and leave me gasping, hungering, for more. Jennifer Sage does it EVERY SINGLE TIME with EVERY SINGLE BOOK!!

Wow!! The Last Valkyrie was unlike any story I’ve read before, a combination of style with The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, Game of Thrones and a bunch of other incredible stories that make my heart sing. The Last Valkyrie is so very unique and captivating that one cannot simply just put this story down and move onto the next. I am in total admiration for Jennifer Sage and the manner in which she stuck to the truth regarding Norse Mythology. Wait, is that an Oxymoron? Study it for yourselves if you question anything like Ragnarok and the different Gods and Goddesses that Jennifer Sage writes with a flawless sense of creativity and intensity.

Kara, literally the last Valkyrie, is meant to save the world, but she doesn’t know how to be a Valkyrie, so she must be taught. Zane (#IStillLoveYouZane), a God himself, and Rune, a sexy, enticing Elf, are going to have you loving and hating them. I don’t do spoilers, so that’s about all you’ll get from me regarding this story, but Zane and Rune have to teach Kara how to be a real Valkyrie. Since she is the only remaining Valkyrie alive, imagine the struggle Kara faces with a God and an Elf teaching her how to save the world. Frustrated much? Yes … she is. But, Kara is a true rock star and a badass and I so wish I was her!!

Read. This. Story.

You will not be disappointed. Jennifer Sage creates, once again, a world that is full of character, joy, heartache, great sex scenes (she’s simply the best at this), and a tale riddled with intrigue, humor, anticipation, worry, lust, love, heartache – yes, The Last Valkyrie has it all!!!

The Last Valkyrie is my first book I have read from Jennifer Sage and I was actually amazed at how I loved this book. I wanted to not like this book but I just fell in love with the story and of course I was just intrigued by the mythology and I wanted to find how the author would use the mythology to the story. Trust me this story truly grabbed my attention that I was actually surprised at how I enjoyed this fantasy tale of danger and action. This was no ordinary paranormal story. It was actually different and I loved every moment of it.

Kara is the last Valkyrie and she has to somehow save the world by releasing Odin's warriors before the end of days. With help from Zane, a dragon king and Rune, an elf king, she has to defeat forces of evil and unlock her power. I cannot really say what this book is about. All I know is that you have to read. You have to open up and actually see how special this book is and I do not want to ruin the moment for you. I loved this book because it kind of reminded me of Game of Thrones, Thor and Lord of the Rings which happen to be my favourite shows so I was actually excited that I could depict influences from the shows. It also reminded me of the times I was so into mythology and thus becoming so prolific and memorable to. Jennifer Sage truly wrote truly an inspiring and a captivating story that evoked both culture and history.

The characters were so addictive. I loved all their special dynamics. But to me the main character of this story was Kara. I loved how strong Kara was and how fearless she was. Yes she started out a bit naïve but he was totally a character that has so much and realness to her. I truly was impressed about that. I loved how she interacted with Zane and Rune and they were moments I found myself laughing.

However, a small problem was that it took too long for me to connect with the story. I was a bit confused from the start of the book and would have wanted a few things more clear but this was truly a fantastic read. Judging by the cliifhanger, I cannot wait for book 2 because I do want to know what happens next to Kara.

Absolutely LOVE this book... And hate it to... Not really! Seriously though i do love this book the depth of the story, kara, zane, rune! OMG! I don't want to leave spoilers. But the story.. It broke my heart and stole it too. I feel kara i am all in her camp 100% .. I love this take on mythology i really do, it is vastly unique in alot of ways and it fits. Beautifully. Now in this story i cried straight off, so sad. But then you feel her frustration, and desire for things... Then your heart is broken to pieces and slowly put back together again. In a kinda interesting way at first but then beautifully detailed. I finished this book and wanted the rest of it instantly! To keep me waiting for book 2 AND 3 seems like torture! I honestly love this book so much. The characters captivated me,drew me in,made me BE kara! I fell that deep into the story it grabbed my heart and my mind and wouldn't let go. My mind is still comprehending that the story is not finished being told,i want to know what happens next,NOW right this minute. Hell i want it yesterday. A must read book, i loved it. Even the hard parts. So worth the wait, and i can't wait for the rest of them!

Hel Hath No Fury Like a Valkyrie Scorned!
Where to start? This book has everything you could want to immerse yourself and take you on a interesting adventure. Romance- PLENTY. Suspense, HOT characters- OK so they were VERY HOT characters... Some cute elements and heartbreaking moments, with some humor thrown in. Jennifer created a world that mixed real elements with fantasy, and did it where you could actually feel that it was real. It makes you wonder if their are other beings walking among-st us- and boy I hope there is! Especially MY Rune ;) . There was a twist that I knew was coming towards the end, I just didn't exactly know what it was going to be for sure, and the way she left me hanging at the end has me CRAVING more... Like I need it... The story moved at a great pace and the story was well written. Very good read, and I am so glad I read it. Cannot wait to read more of her work.

Omg! How could it end there?! I need to know more. Seriously you can't leave me hanging like this it's just not fair :(

This book will suck you in and keep you on the eege of your seat from the start till the end and at the end you too will be cursing the author for leaving you not knowing.

Kara is kickass and I loved her. She has spunk and is no wilting wall flower. She kno s what she wants and she goes for it no matter how many times she is turned down.

I love Rune, Axel and even Zane. I'm so sure he will redeem himself. He has to right? I mean i just have this feeling that he is her true mate regardless of what he may or may not have done.

My heart broke with Kara when Gunnr attacked and it soared when she finally got to kiss Zane. Let's just say I felt every emotion these characters felt which is a pretty good indication that the author has amazing talent.

Kara, literally the last Valkyrie, is meant to save the world, but she doesn’t know how to be a Valkyrie because she’s The Last Valkyrie. Being the last means there isn’t another to teach her how to save the Gods and Goddesses. Will she discover her full powers and complete her task? Kara is madly in love with her sexy Dragon, Zane … ahhh, but will he love her back? Can he?
“I’m all grown up, Zane, and I will have a lover, or a hundred, before I fulfill my destiny and turn to Valkyrie dust. So shove your conscience, or your need to rescue an unwilling princess from her desires…your choice. But, you can’t have both any more with me.” ~Kara
Zane (#IStillLoveYouZane), is a sexy alpha male and fiercely strong and beautiful Dragon who has raised Kara from a babe. Kara believes she is in love with him, but does Zane love Kara the way she needs him to? The struggle between these two is intense, sexy, funny, and somewhat baffling, but you’re sure to fall completely head over heels in love with them both!
He kneels, almost angrily looking up at me. “Tomorrow I’ll give you all the reasons to hate me for eternity, and to take back your sonnets and your heart.” A bite to my thigh makes me hiss. “Do you need to feel worshipped to be whole? To do your duty, Kara? My dragon is done with these games. I’ve been tried and tested, and have failed. Now, you will scream for me, damned as I may be for it tomorrow.” ~Zane
Enter Rune, a sexy, enticing Elf who will infuriate you, humor you, make you drool all over your Kindle and you will desire him in ways you wouldn’t have expected. #ThatsSoRune You’ll understand. Read about this gorgeous and mischievous Elf.
“Kara, I promised you once that I neither want to kill you nor f*#! you, and that you’d be the first to know if that changed. Kara, I’m not feeling like Switzerland anymore.” ~Rune
Axel, a fatherly, but fiercely loyal and strong, Dwarf who Kara loves with all her heart. You’ll love sweet Axel and wish for a friend like him.
Zane and Rune are going to have you loving and hating them, just like Kara does. I don’t do spoilers, so that’s about all you’ll get from me regarding this story, but Zane and Rune have to help teach Kara the few things they know about magick, so she can learn how to be a real Valkyrie. Prepare to be blown away!
This is the first book I have read by Jennifer Sage and I can tell you for certain,it won't be the last!

Once you pick up this book you will not be able to put it down!

The end is coming, it is written in the ancient scrolls only the One can save many, she is the last of her kind she is a Valkyrie, she is Kara. From the very beginning Kara has been hidden and training for the end with her protector Zane. As fate would have it we never have as much time as we would like and the chain of events begins. This author has woven Norse mythology into her story with brilliant skill and made it a flawless part of her story. The characters are complex ,multi dimensional, and completely believable. The story line is exciting, and flows with ease. The story will draw on your every emotion, you will laugh, cry, scream and find yourself gasping out loud. Oh and some scenes are smoking hot, not for the underage readers. This is an emotional adventure one that is certain to leave you feeling as though a part of you is missing when you put it down.

I for one will be counting the days until the next book in this trilogy is out! Just sayin' Jennifer Sage after reading The Last Valkyrie, I'd read the phone book if you wrote it! This is a 5 star book all the way I'd give it 100 stars if I could!

OMG cliffhanger. I want the rest of the book now. I did not expect that was the big secret that Zane kept from Kara. OMG, I want to know now what happens when Zane finds out that she know and what happened.

this is what I post on the Author's FB page

I finished it last night, I'll just to say I want the next book now? LOL I wasn't expecting the secret that Zane was keeping would be that. I wonder Zane will get back into her good grace. I don't want to leave any spoilers here. One part made me cry what Kara was going through, it was so hard felt.

I like mythology a lot and this was very good. I think this was the first Norse mythology novel I've read.

I was given an ARC copy for an honest review.

I’m not sure what to say other than WOW! JENNIFER SAGE BLEW ME AWAY with book 1 of this new series. Talk about a new direction with her writing and storytelling.
I want to start by saying Jennifer brought back the love of fantasy romance in a big way. This is a true novel that has fully developed characters, world building and all the elements of a fantasy tale that takes you away to a different dimension.

First, this book is written in first person, which, by my experience has to be done well in order for it to sound right. Well, she did an amazing job telling Kara’s story.

The Last Valkyrie, Kara, has lived many, many years, learning and developing her skills as a fighter and had to come to terms that she is the last of her kind. Without another Valkyrie in the world, she didn’t have anyone to guide her of what her true skill and nature of being a Valkyrie was. But learning to fight, she wasn’t alone. Her protector, mentor and hot as sin Dragon, Zane was tasked with the job of protecting her when she was a wee young Valky to the now kick your ass female warrior. Over the years, Kara developed more than just friendly feelings towards Zane but for some reason, Zane kept her and any feelings he had at a distance. I will not say why, but when you get to the end of this story, you will be saying, Oh.My.God!!!

“I can’t do this much more, either. My Dragon is done with these games. Truth be told, the man has been long done. I need to kiss you, taste you and feel you, even though you are going to curse me to Hel for it. Do you understand that you’re going to hate me for this?” Zane’s mouth and teeth come down almost brutally on my neck as my panties shred somewhere in another realm its seems.

It was fun to see Kara and Zane interact as she trained and how Zane would try to control himself and his needs when she was around. You will fall for Zane instantly as I have but also, with the twists and turns in the story, you will not only fall for the hot Alpha Dragon, but a hot Alpha Elf “King of Switzerland” Rune. I also found myself falling for a Dwarf Axel.
Let’s just say, when Rune was introduced into the story, I found myself screaming “Team Rune” and you will see why once you read. Decisions, decisions…

I found the mythology very interesting to learn and you can tell, once again and at no surprise to me, Jennifer did her research. That’s big on my list of reading if there is any true mythology involved, to at least do your research.

This book will have you laughing, crying, saying WTF and OMG and make you lose sleep because you won’t be able to stop reading once you start.

The heat factor in this book-5 Stars***** I knew Jennifer wouldn’t let me down on that.

“Yes, yes, yes,” I practically whimper. His hand is reaching toward the juncture between my thighs, and it’s all I can do to form coherent words to respond to that ridiculous question with. “I don’t know who you think I am, Zane, but I will curse you to Hel and back if you stop touching me right now.

The action, fight scenes were just as intense and exciting. You can tell the author really took her time to develop her scenes, whether they be love or fighting.

The funny thing about this book, it kept inspiring me to want to draw out the images that were playing in my head---so, for a book to inspire art in anyone, is a GREAT thing.

I CAN’T wait for book 2 of this new series because it will be amazing!!!! As always with Miss. Sage’s work!!
This is worth a read to any fantasy/paranormal romance lover!

If you love Karen Marie Moning, you will love this new series!

***** 3.5 Stars *****

The Last Valkyrie was a bit slow for me. The first chapters got me hooked, but midway I wanted things to speed up. I enjoyed Kara's personality.... when she wasn't so focused on getting laid.

Besides that, the dragon, elf, and dwarf were easy to fall in love with. The fantasy was also easy to follow. I'm really interested in reading the second book.

Some novels draw you in right from the beginning and others draw you in slowly as the novels goes on. This was the latter for me. I wasn't sure I would enjoy the book but ended up becoming fascinated by Kara's world not to mention Zane, Axel and company. There is so much depth to the book which is the first one in a series especially the mythology. Jennifer Sage must have done a lot of research. I cannot wait until book two!

Recensione per Feel The Book

Where to even begin

A freaking cliffhanger. So this is a trilogy (no evidence in the title). Which by the way we are 2 years out since release of book one and no word on book 2 so yeah.... Overall story is about 75% Kara wanting sex sex and more sex. I just don't know how I feel about this book. Feel angry and disappointed that yet another series takes YEARS (plural) to release the next imstallment. Sheesh.
