This series… I don’t even know how to begin. I find that I have no words to properly convey the feelings I am feeling…

Ok maybe I have a few words!

Is it kinda cheesy?
Yes.
Are the books slightly repetitive in their stereotypes?
Yes.
Are there some scenes that don’t feel like things that would happen in reality?
Also yes.

🥴🫠

But are the characters absolutely lovable and unforgettable?
Yes!!
Did all of the interactions and joking between the siblings make me so happy?
Yes!!!!
Did I end up crying?

Also yes.

😍😭

I know several people who have read the series when they were younger and attempted to reread them when they were older. The consensus? Incredibly cheesy.

But hey, im still a teenager who can take the cheesiness in stride and still enjoy it. I watch hallmarks for Pete’s sake. And if i’m being honest (which I am) these books are better than hallmarks.

SOME THINGS I DIDNT LIKE~

These books are Christian fiction, and I DID like that Dee Henderson wove her spiritual themes throughout the book and didn’t just stick it in at the end like some other CF books do.

Unfortunately, even with the hard and real questions her MCs posed, their conversions to God were… confusing? And a bit fluffy as well.
One character just had to believe Jesus did love her and she was then a Christian. Another just had to believe God was real and he was then a Christian.
There was no realizing their own sinful condition, realizing Christ paid their debt, accepting His free gift of salvation…etc.

Don’t misunderstand me, those things are all true! God is real. He does love us. But just knowing those things doesn’t save us. We have to realize that because He is real and He loves us, that He sent His Son to die for our sins and save us from eternal death.
And there are some people today who know ALL of that, but still refuse to repent and receive Christ as their Savior. So it’s not simply “knowing”. It’s receiving Christ by faith.

So while religion is very prominent in the books and the themes were very good and thought provoking as I read the series, it still lacked that crucial crux of salvation through Christ alone! So that dropped it a star for me 🫤

SOME THINGS I DID LIKE~

One thing I loved is that these books are squeaky clean! So often I have read the synopsis for a book, and thought it sounded like a great story! Then I checked the reviews.

Many a time have I been saved from adding books to my ‘want to read’ or borrowing them from my library, by some review that mentions the “spice”.
Or a “gay” or “bi” character etc etc etc.
Those are things that as a Christian, and with the Bible as my standard, I do not condone and do not want to have in my books.
It is annoying and very sad that books nowadays are chock full of it and a lot of times, even expected.

This series does not have anything like that in any of the books! 🙌🏼 (I know this author is super reliable, and with it being a CF and all, I am not super surprised. But it’s always nice to know ☺️)
No queer characters and the romance is very clean!
There is a little more kissing than might be preferred, but again, nothing inappropriate at all!
Some cringe maybe, but nothing bad lol.

And as relates to language—
there is none!! So that’s another wonderful plus that I’ve learned not to take for granted! 🙌🏼

SOME WARNINGS~

I know some people have sensitivities to certain topics and happenings, so here are some warnings. (They cover the whole series and are spread out through the 7 books.)

Most of the characters in these stories have highly dangerous jobs so be prepared for some action, violence, semi-detailed injury descriptions, and perilous situations. (Some of the books are more intense than others.)
All of the O’Malley characters are orphans. So some of the characters childhood backstories include abuse, parents death, etc. So definitely some trigger warnings there.
Also warnings for things like a stalker, kidnapping, serial killer, arson, and school shooting. (Not all in one book obviously.)

THINGS I LOVED~

THE CHARACTERS!! They are all literally amazing!!
The O’Malley family is the sweetest ever and no one can tell me otherwise!! I adored their story of how they came together at Trevor House and made their own family! (Even if it was mentioned in EVERY book the exact. Same. Way.)

Every character is so unique in their personality and every couple in their relationship, that I honestly can’t choose who and which pairing are my favorites!
Rachel and Cole, Lisa and Quinn, Kate and Dave, Shari and Marcus… they all hold a special place in my heart!! Cassie and Jack, Jennifer and Tom, Stephen and Meghan, Sara and Adam?!! With so many wonderful stories and cute couples how could I choose?!
(Buuut if I haaaad to, R+C might be #1)

To all who have read this far, congratulations you’ve almost made it to the bottom of my longest review so far! 👏🏼

To sum everything up, I love the series and only have some minor issues with it! Would definitely recommend if you like mysteries, some supsense, romance, and strong Christian themes. As mentioned above, the religion side of it is somewhat foggy so I would be aware of that going in! There are some trigger warnings as well. But a heart-filled, captivating, and clean Christian Series!

Children (12 and younger) ⭐️ (DO NOT RECOMMEND)
Pre teens-⭐️⭐️ (Maturity level matters. Personally could not have read these as that age, but everyone’s different.)
Younger Teens-⭐️⭐️⭐️
Older Teens- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such a lovely concept of family. The stories are so beautifully written, you will cry and laugh with the characters, such a rich tapestry of grace ,hope and pain and deep faith born from that pain. Each story is unique and and so very intriguing, suspense, drama, love all skillfully woven into a memorable masterpiece you will cherish for years to come. Couldn't put these down !

What a great series. Love a series about siblings and this author had a great style. I would say that the third book (The Guardian) and the last book (The Rescuer) were my absolute favorites. All of the siblings had their flaws but it was amazing to see them one by one turning to Christ. The back story of a dying sibling was also especially well done.

I am so glad I got this whole set together. I would finish one book and just keep on going to the next one! Henderson writes the kind of suspense I enjoy reading - enough pauses to relax, good romance interwoven with the nail-biting scenes, etc. Her characters became friends, and I hated to come to the end of the whole series. Now she needs to write about all their kids :-) I highly recommend this series!

It was finally time to read these well-talked-about classics! I enjoyed getting to know the characters and seeing them each come to know Jesus in their own unique ways. Having them use “pagers” was an interesting blast from the past! And I would’ve loved to have ALL the characters reconvene in the last book. I look forward to reading other books by this author!

I loved this entire series. I think I have read it completely about 5 times! The O'Malley's are a wonderful example of how Christian families should stand together. "An O'Malley calls, an O'Malley comes." Such a great series.

Wonderful

I loved the dynamics of the family but also the way that you could see the struggle for becoming a Christian with so much past hurt to overcome. This isn't the first time I've read this series but each time I learn something from it to help me through my own struggles.
I have and always will recommend this series!
Thanks Dee for this awesome book!
