This is the bundle for Maisey Yates's popular Copper Ridge series. There are three full novels and two novellas.

Basically each of these stories is the exact same template. They're fill-in-the-blank stories. Seriously, after three I knew exactly what was going to happen and when. Oh, specifics were changed, but the plot progression was duplicated throughout. By the third novel I was rolling my eyes as each thing happened in the same order it had happened before.

The other thing that bugged me was the immaturity of the heroines. Not their ages. Their behavior. In the first story -- a novella -- the heroine continually accuses the hero of planning to put her out on the street like some greedy landlord. Basically, he's inherited his father's properties and she's been renting a shop space in a building for way under market value -- a deal she made with a man in a nursing home, BTW -- and she's pissed the son is going to sell the building. We're supposed to forget the fact that he doesn't even live there; forget that it's totally his right to sell any and all properties he's inherited; and forget the fact she's been taking advantage of an elderly man for years. We're supposed to see the hero as being insensitive and greedy because he won't let her continue to take advantage. And she keeps throwing it in his face. It was annoying.

There's some poor basic understanding of business and real estate throughout the series as well. The kind of lack of realism that would have the above referenced character firmly believing she's got a right to someone else's property at below market value. *sigh* Stuff like that just bugs me.

In spite of that, Yates does have some decent writing skills. Plotting, not so much, but putting the words together and creating a nice scene are not beyond her. Each one of the stories had at least one scene where I sat back and said, "yes! More of that, please!"

The third story in the series -- Brokedown Cowboy -- is the best, I think. It involves a widower and his long time best friend. It was the most organic, I think, and I wish it hadn't followed the same exact template as the others, because that was distracting from what would have been a pretty nice story.

I'm not sure if I'll read anymore Yates. This wasn't terrible and, like I said, some of the scenes are really very good, but I had a hard time feeling the characters. Especially the females. I found them to be childish and even irrational at times.

As I say, it's a popular series, so everyone else's mileage may vary. Ultimately, I think the bundle was a decent value.

Started enjoyable but the last two books bought my rating down.
Funny how the last two books feature cowards for heroines and play out in the same format.
Maybe the author couldn’t be bothered to change up the format.
0.5 - SHOULDA BEEN A COWBOY.
I read book one before reading this and I don’t see how it fits in.
Jake and Cassie don’t really come into the series.
But I found it a cute and entertaining quick read.
Bad boy comes home years later.
Meets up with friend from high school.
Instant attraction, some emotional growth on both parts.
1 - PART TIME COWBOY
Read in a two book set from the ship library whilst on a cruise.
An enjoyable story and I liked the dynamics in play.
Sadie had had a terribly violent example of parental dynamics.
I do not agreed with her blaming Eli for what happened. She admits she’d goaded her father.
Her mother’s choices for staying are her own. But I did like how she supported Alison. No judgement, just support.
Eli, what a staid character he was. But I ended up really liking him for his depth and the fact that he was willing to learn.
Even grumpy drunken Connor was enjoyable.
2 - BROKEDOWN COWBOY
I grabbed this from the library as I’d read the first book in a two story book and wanted to see how Connor came out of his drunken miasma of grief.
It played out how I expected.
I wanted better clarity for Connor.
I felt Connor never really made a breakthrough with his grief and wasn’t ready to go forward with a new life, more of an, I cannot lose my best friend.
I just wish Felicity/Liss had gotten on with her life more than she did. It seemed she was treading water.
She was likeable but not a strong character for me.
Nice to see the other characters getting on with life.
3 - BAD NEWS COWBOY
This went along well, until real emotions became involved.
I loved that Jack reclaimed himself and his self-respect against his biological sperm donor.
Kate was a huge, emotional coward and her words and actions towards Jack were nasty.
Though this ended happily, Kate fell in my estimation.
Nice to see how the brothers were doing.
4 - A COPPER RIDGE CHRISTMAS
I cannot say I know who these two are, don’t remember them being mentioned in earlier books.
Sweet and a bit heartbreaking with what Ryan and Holly had endured.
But one would hope and believe that the example set by Marge and Dan would have made more impact.
But wow, Holly was a cowardly repeat of Kate and her emotionally stunted immaturity.
She does exactly what Kate did in the previous story, says hurtful things to Ryan to supposedly protect herself.
I have no time or respect for cowards who hurt others when they lash out through their own insecurity.
Ryan I really liked, he grew and learned to understand his own limitations were caused by himself. So he opened himself to change.
Then he tried to make Holly see she was wrong in her thinking.

Great beginning sub-series to the Copper Ridge series. If you're interested in my reviews of the individual stories you can read them with each book.

Each book in this fun Box Set reviewed individually.

While I wouldn't recommend reading this Box Set straight through—there are some similarities in the stories that feel a little tired after a while—I would absolutely recommend getting to know the Garrett family, Liss, Jack, and the town of Copper Ridge. As a whole, this a reallyenjoyable series, with a charming setting, a wonderful blend of feels, heat and funnies, and a host of likable characters. I definitely wanted to read more from Maisey Yates, and in the Copper Ridge series.
