Sometimes a girl’s got to take matters into her own hands... After defeating her grandmother’s closest enemy, Jayd Jackson’s world should be simpler, but not a chance—especially not with a crew like hers. With Mickey and G on the run, Nigel being sued by Nellie’s abusive boyfriend, David, Jeremy back in trouble with the law thanks to his vengeful wifey, Cameron, and Mama slacking on the job to keep her man, Jayd has no time to focus on the normal things that every high school senior should be doing. Thankfully she still has her best guy friend, Chase, in her corner, who is none the wiser to all of the drama that he recently endured at the hands of Jayd’s evil neighbor, Esmeralda, who just won’t rest in peace or let Jayd get any rest at all. In order to regain her sanity, Jayd decides to go completely rogue in her personal, professional, and spiritual lives. But can she really let go of it all, or will her natural inclination to alter events for the sake of her friends and family take over once again, also giving way to her darker side? Jayd’s the only person who can see herself through this mess, but in order to do so she has to regain control of her dreams before they ultimately control her.

To short of a read for the price. To long of a time period between books.

No changes in her relationships since forever. Misty still enemy, Mickey and nelly still bad friends. Jeremy and rah still annoying and up her ass while having other chicks... It's getting boring, and repetitive.

Jayde doesn't seem to be evolving like before. The book was just her hearing stuff in her head, her grandma acting up, her god mother giving her advice, and her friends fucking up there lives. And Jayde is getting stupider listening to Esmeralda. She's always doing this shit! Like when she let misty back in her life. Or every time she lets Mickey, nelly, rah, or Jeremy back. I'm starting to think she's not as bright or strong as before.

Before each book was a problem that was fixed by the end of the book or end of the next one. Now it's dragging, plus she never learned to ask for help. Each time her God mother or mother asked if she needs help she doesn't listen or tell them her problems. But now she's listening to Esmeralda!!

Might be the last book of the series I buy bc her solutions are right in her face!! L. Divine just wanna make more money I feel, by writing garbage while reader hold on praying it'll go back to the way it was before the covers started looking crazy!!

Rogue
Jayd goes over to check out Esmeralda’s house just out of curiosity Inside looks like a hurricane hit. She finds Roussea on the back porch. He’s now blind and all the animals are in some kind of sleep. (They awaken when they sense Jayd). Rosseau says he’s not a threat to her anymore, but Jayd doesn’t trust this. He says tho he can’t leave because Esmeralda isn’t there anymore. Jayd tries to tell her Mama but her mind has flip-flopped back to her husband. Which in the last book it said the love spell had worn off and she’s taken the pin out. I guess since Esmeralda died her feelings have returned for her husband. Netta and Mama get into an argument over Nettie saying she’s seen Lyn Mae act like this before. Lyn Mae calls Netta spiteful. Later, Esmeralda pays Jayd a visit via her dreams and tells her she was the one that was meant to be her godmother (not Lynn Mae) and offers to help her use her sight. Of course, Jayd tells her to get lost.

Jayd tries to talk to her grandfather after Esmeralda’s funeral, but he says he’s happy that Mama is where she needs and wants to be. Jayd tries to convince him that the battle isn’t over but her grandfather says if they continue to fight this fight he might lose his wife. So, Jayd is on her own.

At school, Chase and Jayd catch up. His memories seem to be effectly wiped as shown as him looking lustfuly at Alia(but he does grab Jayd affectionately). They discuss briefly that G and Mickey are still on the run. No one seems to be able to find them and Nigel has been asking. Netta gives Jayd a new look, but she tells her to stay in her place where Mama’s concerned. Mama locks Jayd out of the spirit house and while outside she sees Misty on Esmeralda’s porch with a familiar-looking bat. She knows that she’ll have to go back into the house. Later that night in a dream, she goes over to Esmeralda’s with the intent of killing all her animals, but Misty is there and turns into an owl and starts to attack her. With Mama’s help, Jayd uses the residue of Esmeralda’s powers when she visited her dreams and turns Misty back human. She then takes out all her animals leaving Misty and Esmeralda to mourn their losses.

While waiting for Alia and Marcia for a study group in the library, Jayd runs into Jeremy who convices her to play a quick chess game with him. After he schools her and beats her, he confesses to her that he loves her (still), misses her, and doesn’t want to be without her. This leaves Jayd in her feelings. During the study session, Marcia reveals she knows her way around a tarot deck. Jayd pulls “The Fool” card (which I think is very appropriate considering the last book). But Marcia puts a positive spin on the card and says she’s embarking on a new self=journey and she’s protected. Alia and Marcia have an argument about whether Marie Lavous (Maman) is real or a myth (And stupid me I just realized). Chase interrupts and Jayd finds out that he and Alia are back together. Not o nly that but Marcia has a man back home. This only makes her determined not to give up her ashe (energy) to a man.

Jayd attends Natasha’s wedding shower. They’re getting married on New Year's Eve. Mrs. Esop is still salty over it and posted up in her room. Rah’s on the same bs. Trish is pressing up on him at the party to get married. Hes still pressing up on Jayd about what they have in their dreams and how they’re meant for each other. MOVING ON! Before the party, Jayd has a dream of Esmeralda who tells her she can’t have love and be a priestess.

Jayd has a vision about an old man who shows her how to take Esmeralda’s sight. She then is awakened by a call from Mickey who is at the front door with Nicky. Mickey is freaked out that Rosseau is going to track her down (curtesy of a dream from Nickey) and gives Nickey to Jayd to watch. Before Jayd can protest Mickey disappears down the driveway. Jayd then calls Nigel and he tells her to meet him at Simply Wholesome. He’s a little late but Jayd does see Nellie who's there with David. She’s covered up from head to toe. When Jayd tries to talk to her she makes up an excuse that David is bipolar but they’re working it out. Nigel and his parents show up and Jayd hands Nickey over. She’s happy that Nickey will now be spoiled and have a good life.

Jayd begins to work on something to help Jeremy and decides this time she’ll make him pay her. She’s also doing some work for Mama’s clients since she’s slacking. Jayd notices Mama’s instead working on mojo bags to keep her husband faithful. Jayd offers to help her but she says she’s got this and seems to take offense to a seven teen year old girl helping her. She’s a grown ass married woman. Jayd asks her what’s wrong but basically, she tells her to butt out. She’s a child and doesn’t know matters of the heart. Jayd talks back and tells her she’s not a baby and if she’s grown enough to do her work for her she’s grown enough to have her respect. This is when Mama hauls off and slaps the ish out of Hayd and tells her to check herself. Lynn Marie tells her that her mother is out of control and out of balance. Jayd decides she’s tired of trying to help people that don’t help themselves. If her grandmother’s business suffers so be it. Jayd’s on her way to school when Mama approaches her with a request for one of her clients, but Jayd puts her foot down. Surprisingly after a stare down Mama backs down. Mama tells Jayd once she's in love she’ll realize that has to take priority.

Chase is confused by Jayd’s shady attitude with him. He tells her he can’t remember much after what happened at the beach. Jayd tells him it’s nothing and forget it, but Chase tells her it almost feels like he has anmesisa, He tells her his mom wants her to check in. Jayd knows it's probably about her son and why she left so soon but right now she can’t deal with it. She’ll just have to fake it.

While at Netta’s shop, Esmeralda gets inside Jayd’s head again during a cleansing. Only Netta feels it as electricity. Jayd is able to get Natta out of her head who's working to chill out her brain so much she tells her who's in it. She tells Netta that she’s just not ready to talk about it yet. This is something she has to figure out on her own. Netta lets her know tho that although Lynn Mae is trippin, she’s still there for her. At school, Chase invites Jayd to New Orleans for a college tour. In class, Esmealda once again gets in Jayd’s head about upping her game. She tells her not only can she “borrow” sight, she can also take over a person for a undeteremined amount of time. Jayd tries to go to Mama again about Rosseau but she’s still acting like a love-sick teenager. Jayd again is able to block her stare. Mama tells Jayd her definance won’t end well. Jayd tells Mama she’s always respected her but she’s forgotten who she is.

Jayd has a dream where she and Chance are married and she’s pregnant and Rah finds out. When she wakes up Mickey calls and says Nigel is trying to have her arrested for kidnapping Nickey. Jayd tells her she’s on her own. Mickey tells her she doesn’t want her to be Nickey’s godmother anymore. Rah shows up, takes Jayd to school, and they get in another argument over her changing. She gives him the middle finger (verbally) and heads to campus. Esmeralda gives Jayd a little advice about men, (don’t let them control your head, best to control theres) and Jayd starts to think Esmeralda’s making sense.

Jayd has a vision about Maman helping her burry Rosseau’s and Esmealda’s vudoo dolls in New Orleans. When in New Orleans, Jayd runs into the physical form of Maman who leads her to her tomb. She tells her to stop letting Essmeralda in her head. SHE is the one who has the power to control her dream. She tells her as long as Rossue is alive so is Esmeralda. So they have to find a way to bury them both for good. Maman says it’s up to Jayd to fix things. Jayd promises she’ll find a way. Just then a pack of dogs approach. Jayd uses Esmeralda’s powers to stop the dogs in their tracks. She then gets the hell o utta there. Jayd finds Chase at a college party and has a weird encounter with a man that recognizes her through her eyes, He knew her grandmother and bows to her. Maman tells her how to handle the situation and bless him. While waitig on the driver to get them food, Jayd hears Maman tell her to go ahead and kiss Chase. This will restore his memories. So she does and they end up making love.

Back home Jayd finds a spell she supposedly used before to go rouge. Esmeralda tells her it’s the only way she’ll find Rosseau (whose disappeared). Jayd is hesitant but completes the spell. In a dream, in a ritual, Legba, Califia, and Mama give Jayd her crown. They give her a whip and a collar to get Rossaeu telling her she has to go dark. They then tell her to go to the spirit room and rob her Granmother of her sight. Jayd absorbs Mama’s sight, but it’s too hot for her. Still, she gains Mama’s power.s. She tells her after she’s done with Esmeralda’s house she’ll give them back. Jayd gets another slap but her grandmother soon finds herself crippled and falling on the floor knocked out.

At Esmealda’s, Misty and Rosseu transform. Into a snake and the bat Jayd saw. Jayd pulls out her whip and she gets Rosseau to submit. She tells him to tell the other “pets” there’s a new queen in town.

My Thoughts
There were some really good discussion questions for this one. The first was (was) Jayd right to turn her back on Mickey in her time of distress. I think they meant when Mickey wanted Jayd to “help” her get Nigel and Mrs. Esop off her case. But my mind immediately went to was Jayd right to take Nicky to the Esops. Now at first it did surprise me. Since Jayd was the one who thought the Esops were wrong for trying to get her but then it kind of struck a nerve. This has happened in my personal life. NO! I DO NOT THINK DROP YOUR RESPONSIBILITY ON SOMEONE ELSE! Because a baby is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY and I think it’s selfish to expect someone else to drop what they’re doing just because YOU got in trouble. I can go on and on about how WRONG this is.

Another was have you ever been to New Orleans? Are there other places you’d like to travel to. Name a few? I haven’t been to New Orleans, but from what I’ve heard and seen in shows, I think it would be cool to visit. Another is Atlantis. A cousin told me he went there on a honeymoon and it was beautiful. I always love visiting Orlando and something in me would like to see Paris France.

Does everyone have a dark side. If so should they honor that dark side? Hmm well, I have been reading about shadow selves and I think that yes. Somewhere in everyone is a dark side. I don’t think you should always act on your dark side but I know that there are ways to deal with and heal your dark side. But one part of me says that sometimes dark sides can push you (or motivate you) to do what needs to be done. So to answer the question it just depends how you choose to *honor* your dark side.

Do I think Jayd betrayed any of her friends? Is this a trick question? Jayd has done nothing in this whole series but try to help these trifling behind people. If she DID betray them and leave them hanging they more than deserved it. She’s stuck her neck out more times than I would have. Nah I think she didn’t betray them. She’s just OVER them! And I can’t say I blame her!

Have you ever been afraid to change? Give an example of a time when you were forced to change and how it affected your life. I don’t know if I can say I was *afraid* to change. Like some, I don’t like changes but I accept that sometimes you have to. As for being forced to change. There was a time when one of the things I wanted most was love. I use to try and try and try for it. I’d cry. I’d pray. Never happened so I was forced to change d. This took a while but after a little while I got over it. I went into this kind of numbness and eventually that turned into uninterest and I think honestly I’m better for it. I see people who have it and still aren’t happy. It doesn’t feel to me like I’m missing anything so I think in the long run it made me stronger. I tend to see it as there’s something more.. something else.. more fulfilling for me.

I loved the book. I just love the series in general! My biggest complaint is that it's starting to become a little short to read. It's a good thing, but mostly a bad thing. Especially, when this is the last book that'll be released until No Limits. I would have been more satisfied if, it would have been much more longer.

I enjoyed this book. It was 10 years since I let read the last one. so it was really nice to be in the Drama High world with all of the characters again. I love Jay’d and Chase together 🥰😍.

The book did seem kind of rush though. The writing structure and the way the book was made was a bit off. The there’s some inconsistencies in character stories with this book and the next book. But overall I really enjoyed it.
