On Alterity. A study of monstrosity and difference

Rate this book
On Alterity is a meticulous, original, densely argued andtimely critical intervention. In some respects it is a ground-breakingstudy, notably in the way that it contributes to the re-positioning ofthe literary text in the context of the discourses of critical theory."(David Jarrett)

Concerned with the production of meanings , Katarzyna wieckowska , questions the representation of the feminine and the procedure of constructing her "otherness" and "monstrosity". Her style of writing is heavily influenced by the Derridian deconstruction and her tools of excavating through the text aro those which belong to the psychoanalytics such as Lacan , kristeva and the philosopher of alterity Levinas. Also, via counter-narrative , it shows how the feminine resists and deconstructs the discourse which dominate the cultural production of the feminity , otherness and corporeality .
