Super happy party bears! Super happy party bears! Super happy party bears! Super happy party bears! Super happy party bears! Super happy party bears! Super happy party bears! Super happy party bears! Super happy party bears!
Super happy party bears! They're back! The plots of these books are surprisingly convoluted for the story to picture ratio. The critters of the Grumpy Woods are grumpy, the super happy party bears make a new friend named Stan the bee, who is allergic to pollen and wants a desk job in marketing, the super happy bears agree to eat all the honey, bees attack the grumpy mayor, there's too much honey, there's hibernation, and the grumpy critters are once again forced to have party. The illustrations in this book are amazing! I want to show everyone every single picture because they are so super and happy and party and bears.
If you like this book, you might also like A Libertarian Walks Into a Bear. It's similar, but with libertarians, who are less organized than the grumpy critters, and the bears eat cats.
The Super Happy Party Bears are thrilled when they discover a hive of bees has moved into the Grumpy Woods and is happy to provide them with all the honey they could want. Naturally, the rest of the residents of Grumpy Woods are NOT happy about the bees arrival. They like their woods nice and grumpy the way they are, and they are most definitely NOT going to eat any honey, well, except maybe Squirrelly Sam. At first as the bees business gets buzzing the bears are able to eat all the honey that is produced. But eventually all the sugar sends them into an early hibernation, leaving Mayor Quill and the other residents of the Grumpy Woods with too much honey on their hands. This third book in the series is as delightful as the first too. The contrast between the grumpy residents and the Super Happy Party Bears is amusing and the bright colorful illustrations are very appealing. This is a great series for young readers who are ready to move on to early chapter books.
There's a strange new buzzing in the Grumpy Woods. At first the grumpy critters think it must be the Super Happy Party Bears, but the massive amounts of honey soon clue them into some new residents. The Mayor has declared no one can eat the honey, the bees have upped honey production to meet the demands of the bears, but when the bears go into hibernation because of full bellies the honey threatens to take over. What are the grumpy critters going to do?
This one was a little less snarky than the first two books. Kids will enjoy the funny situations and imagining a forest covered in honey. I liked the addition of a bee character whose allergic to pollen. A nice little ironic twist. Lots of color and fun to dazzle young readers.
I like the bees in this one. The grumpy woods towns critters crack me up. My daughter and I are both enjoying this series. They are so much honey, they went into hibernation

All the animals in Grumpy Woods are a bit grumpy, except for the Super Happy Party Bears. They sing and waggle dance whenever they are happy, which is all the time. When Queen Beetrice and her hive of bees move into Grumpy Woods, the bears are her biggest customers. But all that sugar puts the bears into early hibernation. Soon the woods are overflowing with honey. Can they be woken up by an un-slumber party?
This is the third book in the Super Happy Party Bears series. The cast of cute, animal characters and bright, colorful illustrations make this an appealing book for young readers. The author is a former classroom teacher and is currently an educational consultant for the Picture Book Month initiative. I think that her background helps her create characters and storylines that appeal to the targeted reader. My eight-year-old son loved this book and has requested the other books in the series.
Even the title of this book brings back memories for me of a certain jive-talking musical group consisting of three brothers whose monster hit "Staying Alive" filled the airwaves back in the 1970s. The third title in the Super Happy Party Bears series, that title might not resonate young readers, its intended audience, but its contents will. It comes as no surprise that bears love honey, and having easy access to honey pleases those Super Happy Party Bears. While they are thrilled when Queen Beetric sets up shop in the Grumpy Woods, many of the other animals, especially the mayor, are not so happy. After all, there's a lot of congestion and noise associated with the bees' labors. Everything seems resolved when the bears munch themselves into a sugar coma, and things become quiet again. But this time, the grumpy animals have to contend with an overflow of leftover honey. The only solution is to awaken those bears. The book contains some very interesting characters and an odd situation. After all, who could ever imagine that having too much sweetness in one's life could be a problem?
This is a fun, colorful illustrated early chapter book. It would work well with emergent readers because of its simplified characters and limited plotline in addition to the illustrations. It is part of the Super Happy Party Bears series which would make it a good choice for reluctant readers in 2nd & 3rd grade as well. I recommend this title & series for school and public libraries.
I love this series. The Super Grumpy Party Band better show up again later. My favorite part, though, is that instead of the residents of the Grumpy Woods chasing the bees off, the bees decided the market was too unstable. That little shift in the direction of the ending shows some character development -- everyone in the Grumpy Woods IS getting a little less grumpy!
These books are really starting to grow on me. And my 6 year old is excited to keep hearing me read them aloud, so I’ll happily comply.
However, I do not know if it was the author’s intent for these books to parallel our political climate (not even sure when they were actually written?) but the mayor & his wall….I chuckle every damn time.
Another win for SUPER HAPPY PARTY BEARS! This book was so much fun, I had kids fighting over who was going to read it first. Once again, the story and those delicious illustrations just come together to make perfection. Highly recommend!
This is my 6 year old son Sammy's favorite series. He even dressed up as BUBS for halloween. The stories are fun to read and filled with humor for kids and adults alike. I especially love the puns and the personality of each creature in the Grumpy Woods. Sammy's favorite characters are the SUPER HAPPY PARTY bears who are so filled with optimism and happiness that you can't help but smile as you read about them. My Sammy relates to them. When he first learned to talk, he'd come into our room every morning with a huge smile: "I'm happy!" This series makes me and my own super happy party bear super happy!!! We highly recommend it. In Sammy's words: "If you want to be super happy, read the super happy party bear series!"
