The title of this book is grossly misleading, it's hardly the ultimate beginners guide. There are the barest notes on a handful of common herbs which tells you very little about any of them. There are a few recipes but few use the herbs previously discussed, therefore the beginner would be left wondering why certain herbs have been included.
I really enjoyed the section on teas. Particularly the teas for divination and psychic abilities. The section on harvesting your own herbs and procuring them otherwise was useful. Especially the advice to educate yourself about the specific herb in question. I only gave it three stars because of my inability to stand from a prone position in the tub, maybe I should have given it a 4. I would however like to get some leather to make an herb bag for around my neck. Ok I decided to change it to 4.
To be truthful, I am not a wiccan. I don't plan on being one. I am skeptical To beat the least.
Having said that, I did enjoy this short guide to using herbs. I will be able to use it as a reference source for role-playing. I also found some of the tea mixtures to be interesting and may try them. The oils and baths may interest my sister. So even without the magical benefits, there should be plenty of other ways that I can use this book.
This book was short and sweet and to the point! I feel like I’ve read a lot of other books about herbs but this one has been the most useful. For those who want to know medicinal properties of different herbs and a guide to buying or foraging herbs to make your own herbal tea blends, herbal baths, and oils, this book is for you. Really user friendly guide to exactly how to blend different herbs to enhance their healing properties.
I enjoy cooking with herbs and was curious about their magical uses. There is information about the various herbs and their uses with a little bit of history thrown in. The author writes about the various herbal baths, pouches and medicinal bags for attracting various things or clearing. There were also spells or intentions to go along with them.
The book is concise, informative and a very enjoyable read.
There are some typos like alter instead of altar, job instead of jar, cradle instead of candle, etc but in spite of that, I thought it was a pretty good brief read. It reminds me of Lisa Chamberlain's Wicca: Herbal Magic book. There are some good recipes for various things such as oils, sachets, candles, etc. So more of an herbal Grimoire than anything.
This is a bare-bones, basic introduction to a select group of common kitchen herbs. Some (such as nutmeg) I've never seen as anything other than supermarket spice aisle powders. I'll have to do additional research to see where they are native and if others will grow in my corner of the world. Still, some of the recipes sound interesting.
I think it would be beneficial to have the chapters a little more clear so that the reader doesn't have to keep going back to the front to see where the next chapter begins.
Easy to read and digest with a plethora of herbal information for herbs that are easily acquired wherever you may live. Some fascinating recipes I’ll be putting into practice.
There's a bit of useful information here, but there are several typos and mistakes throughout. The author goes over a few specific herbs and then includes others later in the book which are not properly explained.
Has enough information on every little subject! It's perfect! I already took some notes to add to what I already knew about some herbs and what I didn't!
This was a nice, simple introduction to some herbs and rituals. I definitely learned some things, but was frustrating by the many typos. Not bad for a free iPhone book, though.
