GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!!! As one of my favorite authors and dear friend, Brenda Rothert continues to DELIVER a story that will melt hearts and have reader swooning! In her newest release, Bennett Brenda will show her readers there is nothing minor about Bennett as he scores major points in the sexy protective alpha hero department and an extra point for being an absolute sweetheart.

photo b1cbb3aa3ff686aa289450122f6cb7_zpsoziixzvd.gif “Bennett: pros-Sweet.Loyal.Caring.Easy to be with.Highly attractive.Committed to our kid.Intelligent Sexy as fuck. Amazing in bed. Good at fixing things.Makes me feel good. Bennett: cons- Faces lots of temptation from other women ”

Bennett is the second book of the On The Line Series and can be read as a standalone but I highly urge readers to read Killian as well. So what is Bennett about?

Bennett Morse has only one thing on his mind and that is to make it in the NHL. As a minor league player, Bennett has dedicated his life in making it into the pros. And as a hockey player, life mostly consisted of the ice and of course puck bunnies. And there was no shortage of those. But as time goes by, Bennett is feeling that his life is at a standstill. Will he make it to the NHL? As Bennett contemplates his life and dreams, he meets a young woman that catches his eye.

#Bennett1

Charlotte Holloway is a newly single attorney, who just broke up with her boyfriend. Angry that her ex stole her job promotion from her, Charlotte decides to drown her anger in a couple of drinks. While at the bar, she meets Bennett. They strike up a conversation and well one thing led to another and soon Bennett and Charlotte ended up tangled in the sheets. The following next day, Bennett leaves his number for Charlotte hoping that she calls. But the call never came. That is until...two months later.

photo b1cbb3aa3ff686aa289450122f6cb7_zpsoziixzvd.gif “I cared for her so much it hurt sometimes. It was how I was feeling about Charlotte right now. My feelings for her were an out-of-control freight train, barreling down the tracks. I’d vowed not to let this happen again, but not only did I think it wasn’t possible to stop the train, I didn’t want to.”

#Bennett

Well fast forward to two months later, Charlotte is standing in Bennett’s doorstep and announces to him that she is pregnant and is the baby sister of Bennett’s teammate, Liam. Worrying about making it in the NHL and now a baby on the way, Bennett has a lot on his plate but he makes it known to Charlotte that he will be there supporting her with everything. As Bennett and Charlotte discusses their future plans, Bennett makes it known to Charlotte that they should try dating to really get to know each other and also see if there is something more. As they start this new relationship, Charlotte makes it known to Bennett that she wants to keep their relationship a secret for now since she doesn’t want to cause any friction between Liam and Bennett. But what happens when their secret is out? And what happens when Bennett’s insecurities and fears destroys his chance of a happily ever after with Charlotte? And can Charlotte let go of her fear of commitment?

photo b1cbb3aa3ff686aa289450122f6cb7_zpsoziixzvd.gif “I love you, Charlotte. And that’s a hard thing for me to do and say. But I do. I love your strength and your smile and your intelligence. I love how you keep me on my toes. It’s never felt as good to make another person happy as it does with you.”

Brenda Rothert has seriously stole my heart when she introduced me to one of the sweetest, charming, and lovable hockey heroes that I have read. So as you can see, I LOVE BENNETT. Okay, let me reiterate it one more time… Bennett is a MUST READ!!!! Here is why you have to read this book. First and foremost, this book is so raw, emotional, touching, and heartfelt. Secondly, Bennett will score major points on the ice and off the ice. **wink** And lastly, Bennett has one of the most lovable hero that can make any hearts flutter with his honesty, devotion, and commitment. So if you are ready to be swept away in this sweet, raw and beautiful tale of love then I highly recommend you to read this book. If I am keeping score, Brenda Rothert has already won as she delivered two amazing minor league hockey heroes. And FYI, Brenda Rothert has been told Bennett Christopher Morse belongs to me.. hahha.

I noticed Brenda Rothert has another book in this series coming out soon and since it’s been a few years since the last book, I thought I’d reacquaint myself with the characters.

And I enjoyed this book just as much the second time around.

#*#*#*#

4.5 out of 5

I recently went on a hockey romance bender where that genre seemed to be calling me. Then other books calls got louder and I moved on. The hockey romance is calling again though. I’m not sure if it’s because they are in the playoffs or not. Though how wrong is it THAT NOT A SINGLE CANADIAN TEAM MADE THE PLAYOFFS? You would think at least the Leafs would have – yes I have a sense of humour. Anyway, this is the second in a new series by Brenda Rothert. I have read many a book of hers and quite enjoyed a number of them.

This is the story of Bennett Morse and Charlotte Holloway. They first meet when Charlotte or ‘Charlie’ has had a bad day; her boyfriend scooped up a job she was sure was hers, and after work does something very un-Charlie like. She indulges in a one night stand with a hot guy she picks up in a bar. Her one nighter leaves her a note the next morning along with his phone # and letting her know he’s like to see her again. Because she feel bad about what she did, it really is amazing how alcohol can lower the inhibitions, she throws out his number without planning on ever contacting him again.

But things don’t go as planned and because they had a major miscommunication, it seems as if she now has a wee little bun in the oven and thinks it’s only right to let the baby daddy know that he is indeed going to be the baby daddy. But much to her surprise, baby daddy steps up to the plate and wants to be involved. Said baby daddy is hero Bennett Morse, hockey player on a farm team hoping to make the big leagues. While he’s been quite the player, and I don’t mean just hockey, this major surprise leads to some maturation on his part. Charlie is less than thrilled but reluctantly allows him to be part of things. There is one major problem though. Turns out she is little sister to Bennett’s best bud and team mate Liam Holloway. Best bud who is majorly overprotective of his baby sis and a real player himself. Bennett and Charlie don’t tell brother Liam that they are expecting a baby together and I found the scenes very cute when Liam goes on about what a douche Charlie’s baby daddy is. Since Bennett has really stepped up to the plate, he really is involved but he can’t tell Liam because Liam would kill him because Bennett broke the bro code by hooking up with Liam sister, even though Bennett and Charlie didn’t clue into the connection until much later.

This book has things in that would normally turn me off. I’m not big on one night stands for example. But after being so unexpectedly blindsided by her now ex, I can understand why Charlie did what she did. And I loved how Bennett really wanted to be there for her. Of course since this is a romance, once they begin spending time with each other and bonding over coming baby, strong feelings began to develop.

I really loved both characters. Charlie is strong and independent and doesn’t want to lean on anyone, but slowly allows Bennett into her heart. And Bennett does an excellent job in going from boy to man. Not once does he in any way, shape or form, resent or get angry with Charlie over how his life circumstances change. In fact he is more than willing to make major sacrifices for their future and he becomes a very honourable and noble hero.

I very easily and happily recommend this book to all those who love sports romance. The author even ‘gets’ the hockey section of the story. Well done Ms. Rothert says I. Well done indeed.

☆ I received an ARC via Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ! ☆

I liked this one a whole lot better than Killian's read. Not that I disliked or had anything against Killian.

Bennett, whom is a team mate of Killian's, story takes place during the same parallel timeline as Killian . Those of you who have not read bk1, I highly suggest you read it although this one is very easy to read without prior knowledge to its predecessor.

So Bennett. Man, he is definitely book boyfriend material. Not only was he NOT a manwhore extraordinaire...Bennett was kind, understanding, had a heart of gold, and was a complete sex god. He certainly has a stomach for hardheaded individuals~~ what with his best friend being stubborn as they come, and said bestie's little sis, Charlotte, whom Bennett unknowingly sets his sight upon.

I won't give more of the story line out, because it would spoil pretty much one of the, if not the biggest, drives of the entire plot and gamechanger between Charlotte and Bennett.

Between the two, Charlotte was kind of the take charge fiery one but with major trust and commitment issues. Sometimes, as I reader, I felt she was a tad hot and cold towards Bennett and I wanted to shake her. But over all, I dig understand where her deep rooted issues lay and why she was so hard on herself and wanted to make sure that she was self-sufficient.

And Bennett, he was the nurturing and one with his heart on his sleeve. He's been a hard life himself, but, don't underestimate Bennett. When trifled with or faced against oppression, he will come back swinging and be there to protect what's his. I loved him wholeheartedly and rooted for him on his quest to win over Charlotte and make it into the NFL!!

A wonderful read, which, I hope will pave way to perhaps Liam's story next!! I can't wait!!

OK, I am writing this review with the blurb next to me as I want to keep my review to only what is mentioned in the blurb. Bennett was a wonderful experience and I want the reader to experience it as I did for its range of emotions and for the beautiful way the story unfolds.
It should be noted Bennett takes place along the same timeline as Killian, book 1 in this On the Line series so Bennett can very easily be read as a standalone.
Bennett is the story of minor league hockey player Bennett Morse and Charlotte Holloway. All I am going to say about Charlotte is she is newly single, ok I will also add I so wanted to strangle her ex so many times in this one. The moment he became her ex (nope not cheating read the book), the moment he found out her secret, the moment he thought he could fix her problems… ugh yes he irked me, which means the author did a great job!
Bennett, ah Bennett, yes he is a hot hockey boy but more importantly there was so many times in this book that he melted my heart. I loved that Bennett wanted Charlotte, that he pushed, that he didn’t give up on her despite her being scared. And I loved loved how Charlotte came first and he proves this in spades so many times, yes, once I wanted to reach into my kindle and strangle and hug him all at the same time for putting her first!
I loved this line from the book:
"Maybe that’s why it’s called ‘falling in love’ instead of ‘slowly and carefully stepping into an amorous relationship."
The heartache in Bennett’s past was raw and touched my soul, as did his questioning the why around it. The what if’s and the action he chooses because of it. How he finally tells Charlotte was so powerful, his emotions bleed off the pages.
"I cared for her so much it hurt sometimes. It was how I was feeling about Charlotte right now. My feelings for her were an out-of-control freight train, barreling down the tracks. I’d vowed not to let this happen again, but not only did I think it wasn’t possible to stop the train, I didn’t want to."
There were times in this book that Liam (the third linemate whose story is yet to be told) made me laugh, there were times I wanted to strangle him but in the end I can’t wait for his book next!
Just wait til you see the role Liam plays in this one, nope not a menage or love triangle - sooooooo far from it… read the book!
Thank you, Ms. Rothert for the Fenway Flyers men and for this powerful and layered story.

A one night stand between two strangers has huge ramifications. Charlotte finds out she's pregnant by her brother's best friend and room / team mate. Bennett finds himself utterly mesmerized by the gorgeous Charlotte but she is fiercely independent and he has had his heartbroken before. Not to mention , there is one hotheaded brother and best friend to consider.....and he's not happy.
Bennett is one of the sweetest heroes ever. He reminded me very much of Ethan Dexter in The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan .Bennett really made this book for me. I liked Charlotte even though I took a little while to warm up to her.Brenda Rothert just writes awesome books!

REVIEWED BY JENN

This is Book #2 in the On The Line series, but can be read as a complete standalone.
I love that I know when I am reading a Brenda Rothert story. Her writing has a unique voice and stands out in a saturated market. She always dives deep into her characters and they are well-developed. She brings raw emotion to each story, and even if the theme is similar, it never feels stale, or over-done. I kept having to put off starting Bennett, but once I did, I read it in one sitting. It was "unputdownable." Being honest, I never expected the "twist" in the story. Other reviews might share, because it does happen in the very beginning of the book, but I was taken aback by it, and I won't tell you about it. I think all books should be experienced organically. Let the plot unfold as you read it!

While there were times that Charlotte drove me crazy with her insecurities and her inability to commit, she made up for it in her snarkiness and her unwillingness to yield who she was. I love female characters who stand up to their man.... Charlotte most definitely fits this mold. Ignoring his serious hotness and hockey body, Bennett was sweet, considerate, the perfect gentleman, and willing to give up his dream to be with Charlotte. He was the perfect book boyfriend. So, then what is Charlotte's problem? You'll have to read to find out.

Cheating: none
HEA: yes with baby
Triggers: some OW drama, suicide (H’s old girlfriend)

Worst Line: “This was just what I needed. A hot, willing woman to get my mind off Charlotte.”

Personal Review:
This was a good pregnancy romance between a recent law graduate and a hockey player.

Random Ramblings
•Liam was an ass for pretending he had a dead wife in order to pick up women
•I didn’t get what the big deal was with Liam finding out
•I liked how committed the H was
•I just wanted to scream at the h for all the lies
•Bennett in tears had me crying
•It was refreshing to read a romance where neither the h or H have a lot of money

Liam was a big baby, Charlotte was a coward and Bennett was great!

With each book, I fall further under the spell of Brenda Rothert. She creates characters that are by no means perfect, but their hearts and intentions are always good. Bennett is the second book in her On the Line series and is a love story with some of my favorite elements that in Brenda’s hands are a powerful story of love and understanding. I defy you to try to put this book down before its end, because these characters and their story will not allow it.

From the get-go, I was in love with this book. Brenda has captured the voices of her characters so perfectly – they feel grounded in the real world. I love hockey stories so much, but here we get to see and understand the struggles of the minor league players, who are playing for the love of the game and not getting much financially. They are riding buses and not flying in team charters. We really get to understand why they keep playing.

Charlotte Holloway is fierce. In the face of so many people in her life attempting to manage her, she does what she believes is best for her. It’s in the moments where she pushes back that we get to see the strength of this woman’s heart. The joy in this story is witnessing her learn how to share it with the man that is truly worthy of it.

Bennett Morse is a really good man. He bucks the pro-athlete stereotype and we get to see the lengths he would go to be the man that Charlotte would want to spend time with, as well as up his game to get to “The Show”. You don’t get a choice, but to fall in love with Bennett.

Our social media newsfeeds are clogged with so much vitriol, that you almost need a hazmat suit to read them. It’s in these moments that I am most grateful to authors who spread empathy through their stories. One of my favorite things about Brenda Rothert’s books is her innate ability to take the most difficult of topics and not only let her readers understand it from personal perspective, but through her words, lend comfort to those who might need it most and more importantly -- let them know they are never alone. We need more of that in our world. Thank you Brenda.

Brenda Rothert scores with Bennett the second book in the On the Line Series. Twenty-six-year-old Fenway Flyers left winger Bennett Morse has a one-night-stand with attorney Charlotte Holloway. However, one night will not be enough. Bennett is full of unexpected twists. This contemporary sports romance takes place in Fenway, Indiana. It is suitable for new adult and adult audiences.

Brenda Rothert does a great job with her character development. I like Bennett. He is sweet, loyal, caring, and smart. He has some fears from a previous relationship that affect him. I appreciated that Bennett is from Orland Park, Illinois. I am from Chicago. We have family in Orland Park and are often there for the holidays, so it was cool that Bennett spent Christmas in Orland. He has a cool family. Charlotte is a strong heroine. She doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s relationship footsteps. She doesn’t realize that she is nothing like her mother in that respect. She and Bennett have great chemistry.

The plot is well done. The conflict with Bennett’s roommate, Liam, was interesting. This story has multiple examples of what can happen with communication breakdowns. I love the scene with the peanut clusters. Bennett is a good man looking out for Charlotte. This is the first book that I have read by Brenda Rothert. I enjoyed her writing style. I will definitely read more books by her in the future and have already picked up some of her previous work.

Charlotte Halloway breaks up with her boyfriend after he showed her what a douche canoe he really was. He took the job that she really wanted after he originally told her he wasn't interested in it. To celebrate her new independence she decides to go get trashed at a local bar. And there she meets Bennett. She doesn't know much about Bennett but she doesn't really care as long as the long island's keep her happy. She's tired of not getting what she wants but tonight she is going to get exactly what she wants.

I really enjoyed Bennett. Once again we have a smart, educated, independent female character. Charlotte may be a bit too independent but that is completely understandable with how she is raised. I loved the side characters--her humorous roommate, her ex-boyfriend that deserves a good kick to the crotch, and her brother who livens up the storyline even more.

I loved Bennett. Like a lot. He was just an all around good guy. He wasn't the manwhore I was expecting based on the story summary. It sounds like he had a history of some manwhore-ish ways but it quickly becomes obvious that that is not who he is. And this story needed a good guy. I'm kind of over the alpha's. I'm all about the sweet.

There were definitely a few twists that I wasn't expecting. One major one caused me to fist pump the air. But I'm not going to spoil it so you need to read this book when it comes out.

This was my first book by Brenda Rothert and I can't wait to get my hands on more. With that being said, Bennett is the second in this series but you don't have to read the first one in order to fully appreciate this one. I will say that Brenda's writing has me wanting to get my hands on Killian's story and I hope that Liam will get his soon.

This is Bennett and Charlotte's story and the wild ride that they are about to take in order to find their HEA or maybe they won't. Things are going to be easy for them and if they want to find their HEA then it's going to take a lot of work, patience and self reflection. Not only that but their are people who wouldn't and aren't happy to see them together. Will they be able to break them up? Will Bennett and Charlotte be able to work through their own issues in order to accept love?

I loved this book and OMG Bennett is a hottie who knows what he's doing in bed. Brenda's writing is so good with a storyline and characters that will have you sucked in and wanting more. You don't want to miss out on this book!

I just want to stand up and applaud. I've just read the perfect sports romance book. The characters, storyline, plot pacing, right balance of quirky personalities, and respect, resolution, and love. I love hockey but this is more than hockey and without being preachy you learn about respect for feelings, suicide and the effect on those who survive, being honest with yourself and others, and it's OK to share with a man who is wholly committed to you, and so much more. Read the books of Brenda Rothert, they keep getting better. Wish the star rating could go higher. PS. I laughed my ass off for scene in doctor's office. Hockey players!!!!!!

I really enjoyed this one...maybe more than Killian. I think is was a bit more developed .
Bennett was basically a saint—book boyfriend material for sure. Charlotte? Sometimes she tested my nerves with her reluctance to fully commit to Bennett. And her brother Liam was a complete ass. The author has her work cut out for her trying to redeem him for his book.
As usual , there was no epilogue. Just kind of leaving the reader hanging with a HFN, and your imagination.

If I could mention one thing about this series that doesn’t ring true. Minor league hockey players do not make chicken feed for the most part, especially if they’re playing in a league that is one rung below the NHL (which I’m assuming is where Bennett is playing). The author spins the story as if Bennett is barely making above minimum wage. This guy has to be making at least $50,000 and probably more, since he’s a top player , so this kind of took me out of the story a bit. A minor quibble , but...🤷🏻‍♀️

Brenda strikes again! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review...well here it is! *sorry in advance for the extra book you'll read if you stick through this*

Charlotte is such a strong-minded and independent woman that does what she has to at her job to move up. Until she doesn't. Her boyfriend, Riley, ruins everything and lies to her in the process. So she dumps him.

In comes Bennett. Char, as he affectionately calls her, sits at a bar trying to drown her sorrows. When she gets an eyeful of Bennett, she throws all caution to the wind and takes him home.

In the heat of the moment, he asks if they are okay as he reaches into his pocket for something. His interpretation: are you on the pill? Her interpretation: Are you ready? Her answer: Yes.

The next morning she regrets her decision, and throws away the number he left her, intending on never speaking to him again.

Bennett can't move on for a while after Char. One night, he finally decides to try and get him out of his mind with a hot distraction. That is, until she shows up at his door.

Bennett is excited to see her at first, until she unveils her news: she is pregnant. She goes on about how the condom must have broke and he stops her and asks what condom? Remember when he reached in his pocket for something? Oh, that was just a breath mint.

Then there is a lot of drama with her ex calling her a whore, her brother, who is coincidentally Bennett's roommate and teammate, wants to kill whoever knocked her up. Her roommate figures out he is gay and moves out.

Then the best part of the story happens. She goes into the hospital to have their son! Only she is in labor for so long, the doctor decides to go a c-section. After the baby is born she suggests naming him Christopher, which is Bennett's middle name. He says he wants to name him Charlie, after his mom. So it's settled!! Happily ever after!

Not quite. Bennett gets called into his owner Orion's office who tells him the NHL wants him! Chicago! His dream come true. Except Charlotte won't leave her job to move in with him. So he turns it down.

Thankfully Liam, her brother, is eavesdropping and gives her this information. She is able to meet Bennett at his second job, the lumber yard, and convince him to take the new gig in Chicago and she and Charlie will join him!

Now, you can sigh! Happily ever after!

This review was originally posted on Cocktails and Books

I love hockey romances, so anytime I see one I tend to snatch it up. Brenda Rothert's series was new to me so I was interested in what kind of hero Bennett would be. Thankfully, he wasn't a douchebaggy hero who readers might love to hate. Instead, he was a sweet man who fought hard to have the woman that he wanted, even when she didn't want him there.

Bennett is a minor league hockey player trying to make it to the NHL. He plays hard for his team and often plays just as hard off the ice. But everything changes for him when he meets slightly tipsy Charlotte at a local bar, has earth-shattering "it's supposed to be a one-night stand" sex and suddenly finds his world turned upside down two months later when she ends up pregnant.

Generally the whole accidentally pregnancy storylines bores me. But for some reason, this one worked. Maybe it was because instead of the heroine chasing down the hero and pleading with him to man up, Bennett demands to be involved in everything pregnancy related. It's Charlotte who tries to fight it. Demands she wants nothing from Bennett and declares she can do it on her own. Add in the fact that Charlotte is Bennett's best friend's sister and the tension was enough to make me quickly read to see what happens next.

The story was cute, our hero and heroine obviously meant to raise their family together. There were a few storyline flaws (such as how did Bennett not know who Charlotte's brother was considering they're roommates and best friends), but the storyline in general was put together enough that a reader could move on without dwelling on it.

Oh this was a single day read (thanks to a plane ride) for me and I loved getting back into Rothert's fast-paced writing, quality character development and damn fine hockey men! I love the fact that when she switches POVs there isn't this GIANT recap of everything, the story still moves forward. Gosh, recaps are killing my reading buzz lately. Love the pull quote "Maybe that's why it's called 'falling in love' instead of 'slowly and carefully stepping into an amorous relationship." Seriously, LOVED the ending, perfect for these characters and I smiled...classy yet perfectly Bennett! A quality, solid good read!

This is another spectacular hockey romance by this author. Charlotte a assistant at the counties attorneys office breaks up with her then boyfriend after he pulls the rug out from under her. Extremely upset she goes to a bar to drown her sorrows and meets Bennett. She winds up having what she thinks is a simple one night stand except things did not go as plan. Not only that but he's a hockey player who just happens to be her very protective brothers roommate. Can this work? Couldn't put this one down

I was sucked in right away. Then the story lost me for a bit, but I kept reading. I'm glad I did. I loved the dynamics of all the characters. This was a sweet and sexy, satisfying read. I am looking forward to Liam's story.

I was extremely lucky to receive an ARC of this book and wow what a story seriously from beginning to end in dragged me in.. I was expecting a cocky hero, but I got totally the opposite of it.. I hope there's more to come from this series because I really enjoyed this series!

Good book but not for me and not a great book.

COUPLE MET FOR THE FIRST TIME VERY ROMANTIC I THINK AND HAVE A ONE NIGHT STAND. The heroine thought it was a one night thing but the hero actually wanted more and even keep thinking about her and only wants her for the past two months when they meet again...

The hero left a number and a note to her in the morning but the heroine throw it away and not even searching for it or even felt bad😂😂😂😂

The heroine got pregnant with his baby.

‼️‼️‼️THEY SEPARATED AFTER THEIR ONE NIGHT STAND BUT THANKFULLY THE HERO IS LOYAL TO HER. Well.... he did touch another female because after two months of the heroine never reached out to him, and him being insecure and still childish at the same time. He went to another female but ONE FEMALE and began to touch her on her breast when the heroine decided to come and interrupts their time. He stopped and of course he sent the female away. Thankfully after that he never even contact the female again. Like poooooohhh gone and he is loyal forever.

‼️‼️‼️EVEN DURING THEIR TIME BEING CLOSE FRIENDS AND NOT HAVING A ACTUAL ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP JUST be friends because the heroine at first wants them to be friends, BOTH NEVER GO TO ANYONE ELSE AND NEVER TOUCH ANYONE ELSE EVER. Because both want each other especially the hero he is obsessed.... EVEN ONE TIME when a stranger from the hero’s past was touching the hero in front of the heroine, he never touch her and sent her away immediately....

‼️‼️‼️VERY HOT SMUT SCENES EVER.

‼️‼️‼️NO VIRGINS.

‼️‼️‼️NO CHEATING.

‼️‼️‼️NO SEPARATION after they got together officially and really be in a serious relationship.

‼️‼️‼️NOT TOO MANY JEALOUS SCENES FROM THE HEROINE. BUT MANY FROM THE HERO....

‼️‼️‼️WHAT MADE ME GIVE IT A 3 STARS BECAUSE THE HEROINE PUSH THE HERO WAY TOOOOOOO MUCH and it frustrates me to see she’s being such a b*tch for no reason and so childish about their whole relationship. IT MESSES UP THE WHOLE STORY AND THE READERS LIKE ME THAT WAS READING IT AND EVEN FEEL EMOTIONALLY TOWARDS THIS BOOK. Argh.

‼️‼️‼️HAPPY ENDING.
Married and have kids.

‼️‼️‼️DRAMA WITH OM BUT NOT TOO ANNOYING AND NO DRAMA WITH OW. The only drama that was annoying is with the heroine’s herself and how she thinks things but thankfully that didn’t last long. But still that’s annoying lol.

I WAS READY TO THROW HANDS.

But thankfully, for the first time ever, Charlotte had some fucking sense.

I'm not a fan of Charlotte to be honest. She's a bit too focused on herself for my liking. Glad she pulled her head out of her ass in the last chapter. It was about damn time.

Bennett on the other hand? That man's a dream.

I love sports romances, especially about hockey. And when it comes to hockey romances, you can never go wrong with Brenda Rothert, her books are always awesome. This was a fun read from beginning to end and I loved it a lot.

Bennett is book two in the On The Line Series, it happens at the same timeline as Killian (Book One). This can be read as a complete standalone but you should check out her other books, and also her other hockey series Fire on Ice, which I love.

Bennett is the story of Bennett Morse, a minor league hockey player, and Charlotte Holloway, an attorney. Charlotte breaks up with her boyfriend (he’s an idiot btw) and finds herself at a bar where he meets Bennett. They have a one-night stand, and even though Bennett was totally smitten with her Charlotte wanted nothing to do with him, something “unexpected” happens and the story goes from there. Now this might be a trope that not may appreciate, but let me tell you this story is pretty awesome and not as cliché as similar stories. I think the author executed it perfectly. To make matters more complicated, Charlotte’s brother is Liam, Bennett’s teammate and roommate who has an awful temper and is very protective of his little sister.

Now, I totally expected Bennett to be a cocky SOB but he surprised me the most, he was just the opposite, so loving and caring and so willing to the possibility of falling in love with Charlotte. For me, Bennett makes the book. I loved everything about him, every single thing. Bennett has become my ultimate Brenda Rothert hero (sorry Luke Hudson). I think Charlotte describes him the best:

“Bennett: pros
Sweet
Loyal
Caring
Easy to be with
Highly attractive
Committed to our kid
Intelligent
Sexy as f**k
Amazing in bed
Good at fixing things
Makes me feel good

Bennett: cons

Faces lots of temptation from other women”

bennett 1

Charlotte was also a great character, although very frustrating at times. She has a lot of hesitation to falling in love and to let a man into her life that stems from her past. That I totally understood, although I didn’t enjoy how she treated Bennett sometimes. I did love her strong will and her resilience. I loved the chemistry between them, they were ridiculously cute together. Charlotte was definitely the perfect match for Bennett and they made an amazing couple.

“It was like I found the woman I was looking for without even realizing I was looking. “

bennett 2

I also enjoyed the interactions with Charlotte’s brother Liam and all the sneaking around. I felt like the book needed an epilogue for it to have been the perfect book for me but regardless I loved it. Overall this was an amazing read and I 100% recommend it if you love sports romances.

Umm.. Bennett... what's not to like? Sexy hockey players, a cute romance, drama, a dumb ex-boyfriend, and an over-protective older brother... yeah I'd say this is a new favorite. Not only are is the writing fabulous and light and fun and perfect, but the storyline definitely deviates from the normal hockey romance I love the way this book is unique.

The great thing about this read lies in the fact that's its a great romance read with dark undertones that don't fully delve in the darkness but instead bring it to light every once in a while. I loved how the author made sure to keep the romance pretty light and interesting but those undertones peek out and keep the romance serious. This balance was kept pretty consistently throughout the novel and allowed for the characters to be consistent too, something that other books sometimes miss as they focus on the drama and not the actual plot line.

This balance was kept pretty consistently throughout the novel and allowed for the characters to be consistent too, something that other books sometimes miss as they focus on the drama and not the actual plot line.

I don't know what it is, but I feel like unplanned pregnancies prove the worth of the characters and really determine not only how the characters see each other but also how the reader sees the characters. I also love seeing how the characters then have to react toward this big change in their lives and how the dynamic changes. This was a major part of the book that just had me biting my lip in glee as Charlott pulled on the independent women outlook and really challenged the more traditional thoughts of the male characters. I think a big reason I love these books so much because there's respect that goes into seeing what kind of hardships unplanned pregnancies have on not only the characters personally but also professionally.

Charlott is the character who has my complete respect and absolutely made this book for me. She had a very strong personality and was known to be hard-headed when it came to her career and her independence. These character traits are ones that a lot of female readers are looking for in their female leads because it makes for an interesting and dynamic read instead of one that seems weak and easily susceptible to others wants. I mean, Charlott really went above and beyond in every aspect in her life and I love the power and confidence she had in herself and the things she could do both personally and professionally.

Then there was Bennett who I couldn't help but crush on throughout the novel because of his manner and his absolute devotion to those he loves. I couldn't help but fall in love with his gentleman-like manner that not only took me by surprise but also took Charlott by surprise. There was this chemistry between Bennett and Charlott that was just fun and interesting to read about even as they struggled with their feelings and aligning those feelings to their beliefs and past experiences.

Overall, this book was the definition of a great read that keeps the interest of readers and takes them on a journey through love and constant surprise. I've already read and loved the first book that came before this, but I have to say that this series only gets better and I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series! So as this book released this week, pick it up and make sure to check out the first book in the series too!

From the moment I finished Killian, I have been dying to read Bennett’s book. There was just something about these three hot hockey players, Killian, Bennett and Liam that has made me fall absolutely in love with them. And I must add that this author is definitely 2 for 2 with her hockey hunks in this series. I am a huge love of this author’s work, I have pretty much read everything of hers but if I had to pick a favorite out of all her books, it would definitely be one of her hockey hunks, she truly knows how to write them.
Bennett was your typical hockey player, single, hot and sexy and at times a real man-whore. He never let anyone get close to him after he had lost his one love he had in college to a tragedy. That was until he met Charlotte one night at a bar. There was just something about her and he wanted more than one night. Charlotte very fresh off a breakup decided she is going to take control and have a one night stand and meets Bennett. She wasn’t interested in more, she refused to be dependent upon a man like her mother always was. So after their one night, when Bennett left her his number she turfed it, never planning to contact him again. That was until the day she needed to tell him something.
I really enjoyed Charlotte’s character, she was such a great strong female lead. At times I will say her stubbornness and “I don’t need a man” attitude really annoyed me but it was who she was. What she had growing up wasn’t a good example to show her what love and being with someone truly means. I absolutely loved Bennett. He could be the typical hockey man-whore like his teammates, but for him it was more about not letting anyone in or get close to him than it was just being a man-whore. Bennett was he was sweet and kind and a true gentleman. I loved how he was with Charlotte right from the very start and loved watching him fall in love with her. Bennett was absolutely perfect, he was a hot sexy hockey player but also a big sweet and loveable teddy bear.
I really loved their story, I loved the dynamic between them and I loved that the story didn’t have unnecessary drama added in. There was a bit of drama to the storyline, which I won’t reveal and ruin it for you but it fit with the story and as always with Brenda, wasn’t overdone. I really enjoyed the build-up between them, it felt real and not rushed. I absolutely love this author’s writing, she creates such beautiful and entertaining stories and I must add she creates some really hot Hockey Hunks I could lick. The only downside I found was I wished there were a few things different. I would have loved to have seen more Killian, really loved his and Sidney’s characters, and really missed not seeing more of them in this story. I would have loved to have seen more hockey action written in the story. And last there were a few parts in the story that felt were very rushed and too much of a time jump. Overall though I absolutely love it. It was another fabulous hockey romance from Brenda Rotherts and I seriously cannot wait for Liam’s story now.

Sports romances are one of my absolute favorite books to read...especially hockey. There is just something about hockey players that draws me to them. Maybe it's the way they're built or how an author describes them in action, on the ice. I just love it all! If hockey is your jam as well...you should go ahead and add the On The Line series to your to-reads list.

Bennett Morse is on top of his game as a left winger in the minor hockey league. Hoping to pursue his dream in playing in the big leagues, he'll just need to stay on track. As he celebrates another win at a local bar with one of his teammates, he doesn't know how one woman can change his life unexpectedly.

Charlotte Holloway is an assistant state's attorney, working her way up to be a prosecutor in juvenile cases. As a position opened up in the firm, she had a good feeling about it. But, the carpet just swept up from under her when she discovered her boyfriend secretly applied for the same position and took it away from her. So the crappy day lead her to a bar, where she'll meet a guy who will change her life unexpectedly.

Thoughts:

PLOT LINE - This story is just as cute as it is sexy. One night stands are suppose to be simple, right? Afterwards, you both can just leave without any contact or any form of a relationship. But if that one night was truly amazing, it maybe hard to forget. That one night can possibly change their lives. When life throws them together once more, maybe it's trying to tell them something. Maybe they should give it a shot.

CHEMISTRY - Bennett and Charlotte make an amazing pair. Not only is the attraction there, their new dilemma molds their friendship and helps turn it into something more. Charlotte is type who doesn't need a man to get things done but once she realizes that she may need Bennett more than she thinks, life can be so much easier. Even when she tries to stay away, there is just something magnetic about Bennett. And, it's not only for those sexy times either ;)

BENNETT - He is hands down my favorite character in this book. Not only is he a gentleman but he can be rough, protecting those who are close to him. When you get some news that you'd never thought you'd here, you expect a guy to react a certain way. But with Bennett...he is kinda perfect. Where did this guy come from? He says the right words and does the right things. He is pretty much any girl's dream guy if you want a guy who is considerate, well-mannered, handsome, and always puts everyone else's needs before his.

Overall, it was a fun and sexy quick read that will leave you wanting more.

I have been on a bit of a hockey romance kick lately, and Bennett is the latest book that i have read on that theme. This story started off on a great note as Charlotte's breakup with her current boyfriend Riley is revealed. She has sass, spunk and humor which I usually enjoy in a heroine. When she decides to go to a local bar to drown her sorrows, she has no idea who Bennett is as they strike up a conversation and one thing leads to another. In the light of day the next morning, she can't believe she acted so impulsively and even though Bennett gave her his number with the intention of seeing her again, she convinces herself that it was all a mistake and tries to forget about him.

Bennett is the easygoing one out of his linemates, and although he does partake of the easy female company at times, he is not a complete manwhore and a good guy to the core. He genuinely liked Charlotte when they met and was disappointed when she never called him afterward. When she re-enters his life, it totally throws him for a loop but he wants her there; she just isn't sure she wants to be there.

In order not to spoil anything, I won't reveal further details but I will give you my general thoughts on the characters and book overall. Bennett is sweet, sexy, laid back, and reliable, and he was the best part of the story for me. Although I started off liking Charlotte, I struggled to maintain that good opinion of her when she came back into his life. She is independent to a fault, she resisted any attempts by Bennett to get to know her better and she expects every guy to eventually fail her and turn into an asshole so she makes it a self fulfilling prophecy. Bennett is persistent but eventually he becomes frustrated and is afraid to even try anymore. I loved this text exchange between them when he was on the road.

Me: I’m Charlie Brown . Pretty cute, lovable guy, right?
Charlotte: Okay, yes. You are.
Me: And Charlie’s a whole-heart kind of guy, don’t you think?
Charlotte: I don’t know him quite that well, but I’ll take your word for it.
Me: You’re Lucy. Holding that football, waiting for me to come kick it. And I want to. I want to kick it bad. But if you pull it away at at the last second, I’ll be flat on my back.

In the end, I think I was just a bit disappointed in the reason for them coming back into each other's lives and I never truly felt the connection between them like I did with Killian and Sidney in the first book. We get to see plenty of their 3rd linemate and best friend Liam for several reasons in this story, and I am looking forward to his story in the future.

When Bennett Morse and Charlotte Holloway meet by chance and decide to spend the night together, neither one is prepared for the outcome of their actions, or that their encounter would lead to anything more. But, when Fate, kismet, the Universe, call it what you will, steps in, the two find out quickly that sometimes things, and people, are not what they seem, and that life as they know it is about to be very different.

I have been a fan of Brenda for a very long time, and am never disappointed by the stories and characters that she creates. BENNETT, the second book in Brenda's On the Line series, is no exception. In Bennett, Brenda has written a man that is not the usual player. Yes, he's had his share of action, but his heart is in the game, and in getting called up to the professional team. When he meets Charlotte, who has recently broken up with her boyfriend, he is smitten. Everything about her appeals to him, and he is more than ready to see where things go. But Charlotte, raised by a mother who depended on men for her self-worth, isn't about to jump right into another relationship. Strong and capable, she's more than able to take care of herself, and isn't afraid to let Bennett know.

What really makes this book so special is the way that Brenda continually takes her characters out of their comfort zones and allows them to rise to heights that they didn't know they could attain. Bennett is so much more than just a hot hockey player, and is willing to overcome his personal demons to show Charlotte just how much she means to him, and what he's willing to give up to be with her. And, Charlotte, afraid in her own way to let Bennett in, finds in him a safe place, where she can let someone else help her carry the load.

BENNETT is a wonderful addition to the On the Line series, and the story, the heart, the wonderful way that the main characters mesh, along with the supporting characters and their stories, combine to earn this read an easy 4.5 stars. And, having gotten to know Liam just a little bit in this book, I can't wait for his story in the near future.
