Anchor

Rate this book
Just about everyone in Philadelphia listens to radio news anchor Ryan Healy. Each morning, he tells them all about the weather and traffic, who won the game last night and everything else that's going on around town and around the world. The only thing Ryan Healy doesn't tell his listeners is anything about himself...and that's the story they would really want to hear. A third-generation Irish-American, Ryan marries his high school sweetheart with expectations of having lots of children. But it was not to be, eventually leading Ryan to believe his wife has deceived him. His Catholic upbringing challenges his conscience as he seeks revenge. Adding to the conflict, he suddenly finds himself fending off temptation from a young lady he rescues from date rape…or does he? Even more stress comes from the devious advances of a new co-anchor, not to mention the ever-present pressure of having to grow his audience ratings. Ryan later finds redemption in an unexpected relationship that includes attending to the needs of her young daughter. She's battling a serious illness, the implications of which are far greater than Ryan could have ever imagined. Anchor grapples with the conflict of love and hate. Can both exist in a relationship? And, if so, which one eventually prevails? Even author Marc Kuhn didn't anticipate the startling ending until it began unfolding as he wrote the final chapter!

Ryan Healy is so likeable. Just the kind ladies would go gaga over. But he does have a secretive side. Love the way the story progressed and the climax, however abrupt it seemed, was great. Book cover is interesting but the drowning lady though looks weird. She doesn't seem real, more like mannequin with no neck. Also she is unattractive although she is mentioned to be attractive, in the story. Overall, I liked the book. Marc has brought in his experience in the radio industry into the book and that was interesting to read. If you are a regular reader of his blog posts, like me, then you will find a lot of his 'MarcKuhn-ness' in this book :).

Love you, Marc. Stay awesome!
