The Dance
The Dance is a book about love, family and friendship, and learning how to dance with life's constant spin.
Dog trainer Jacky Applebaum is focused on one thing - making up for a grave misunderstanding that damaged her relationship with her 15-year old stepdaughter Sophie. They are suffocating under the pressure of hurt and guilt.

The book keeps yapping about how bees don't lie and have open communication and then the book ends with
The book in general info dumps about bees too much. I get it, bees are awesome, they have open communication, they don't lie, without them we won't have nice things like fruits anymore and they communicate via dancing. Cool, now stop repeating it every two chapters.
And then there's the completely unlikable side character Marie,
Romance also was so, so in this book. They kinda have this instant attraction and there's no real progression to their relationship. I just felt sorry for Jackie and her unnecessary two year long suffering. I guess the story overall is simply not written well or I dislike her writing style.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Most of synopsis of Carr's books haven't interested me, but I took a chance on this one because of friends positive reviews.
Although I guessed right away why Jacky & Drew were having problems however the journey Jacky and Sophie took to heal was unique and interesting. What a mess they would have been if they never met Brooke, the beekeeper and her dog, Bee "The Beast". I could have done with a little less with the bees info, care and maintenance, but it was interesting and the parallels were not lost on me. The author made sure you didn't miss them. :-)

“The Dance” was a very tender, realistic story of love, misunderstandings, miscommunication, heartbreak, acceptance, forgiveness and….whew, I’m running out of words!
What if words said in anger are the last said between loved ones? Remember the line from Casablanca?
What if after an exchange of hurtful words, a now-deceased flawed partner is the elephant in the room no one can acknowledge or discuss? Watching Jacky and her step-daughter Sophie struggle with loss, guilt, anger and love was heart-wrenching. Watching them turn a corner and regain communication, trust, love and respect with the help of Drew was just delightful. Yes, the book was often over-the-top with the selfless bees analogy, but it was an entertaining plot device.
The narration was a weak point, I have to say. As a book, this would probably be 4-4.5*, but the narrator did not do the book justice…2.5* for the narration. Overall, though, I definitely recommend the book: 4*

Okay, I think I’m ready to write this.
Some books come into your life and change your direction.
This book did it to me. It’s about forgiveness and how holding a grudge is so damn satisfying but will kill you sure as sure can be. It’s about the rhythm of nature and how all of humanity can be echoed in the life of bees.
It’s a dance of life echoed with a perfect allegory of honeybees.
Who said it, being unforgiving is drinking poison and waiting for the other to die? (Ghandi?) Comment to correct or confirm. This book tells you. At first I hated Sophie. Yes, she caught her parent with her proverbial pants down and did not hesitate to milk that advantage for years, but you know what? The person she hurt the most was herself. Her story of self-realization and redemption is the most encouraging thing I’ve read. Ever.
Jacky too has her moment of choice. She is in the right to be unforgiving, and her choice is staggering. I applaud Ms. Carr for tackling a lot of really tough issues. I scream into the void that this book of mistakes, heartbreak, grieving and forgiveness is relegated to a side-menu because of its LGBT slant. How many people could benefit from these wise words but don’t?
This is a book that will heal you. It will give you advice when you have two roads to take. I wish I could give more than five stars.

I was lucky enough to win this book on Facebook. Not only was I excited to win the book (because I never win anything), but now that I've read it ... what a prize. This was a beautiful story about people learning to come together and be honest with each other. I didn't know anything about honey bees other than they are in danger, so this was a wonderful way to learn about them. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet romance. There are some surprises too (no spoilers) that you don't see coming. This was the perfect book to curl up with on Sunday with tea. And it only took me an afternoon to read it. I couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading more of Suzie's works.

Well written and quite poetic. I felt the heavy heartbreak, hurt and guilt from these characters. However I wasn't drawn into the romance as much as I wanted to be. Perhaps it's my own frame of mind. I found the facts about bees quite interesting but then it became a bit poetic about the dance and I ended up skim reading parts. 3 stars from me.

Time simply stopped when I read this latest book by Suzie, literally stopped. The first clues I had as to how it had completely captured me was when I looked over to my right, at my cup of hot chocolate, stuffed with marshmallows, which had gone cold and solidified. To my left, there was a pile of used tissues from the impact of the sudden loss early in the book had made. It was a perfect Sunday.
This is more than a book about coping or surviving with loss though. It's about moving on, letting go of that moment of pain and opening your heart up to the possibilities love can bring through living in the moment of something so powerfully simple as nature. Suzie treats us to two superbly crafted, beautifully matched characters who come to find each other through Jacky's abilities as a "dog whisperer" and Brookes need to treat her over protective dog "Bee". From their initial encounter, you just want them to fit together. Then there's the wonderful supporting characters of Brookes Nana and Jacky's stepdaughter Sophie, who each add new layers to the story through their own personal demons.
Writing with confidence and enviable skill, Suzie lets the book flow exquisitely between them. We get to see Jacky and Sophie healing through Brooke's love and belief that mother nature is the ultimate nurturer. Then there's Brooke herself, whose role changes as their story unfolds and we get to see her insecurities in trusting Jacky as a new partner. Let's not forget the wonderful Nana too, who brings a wisdom that only age can know.
It's a beautifully told and well thought out, gentle love story, whose characters speak to you as a reader on a number of different levels. But the simplest one is the one that the front cover hints at, where the plight of bees is a metaphor for a better world It's just exquisite. I hope you give yourself the chance to read it and you let its message into your heart. It's simply beautiful.

Sweet story of dogs, bees, and love.
This was a good story. I enjoyed the characters and their journey. There were some times when the story was a bit wordy, but the information about the bees was really interesting.

Hello Everyone and a warm welcome to you all. Earlier this summer I finished Suzie Carr’s The Dance. This book is the talk of the town so stop on by to see why.

Jacky is a dog whisperer who is very successful and loves her job. Her family relations are strong and family comes first. Jacky is sexually deprived which frustrates her. Although she tries, she has little success. She is quick to react and the tiger in her really emerges. She is stubborn and does not back down very easily. Despite this, she is a natural when it comes to the dogs and is able to get them to change their negative behavior.
A twist comes which totally changed the course of the story. The author clearly describes Jacky’s frustration and her thoughts about her desire to turn back time to the place where she felt complete. At the same time, she is forced to accept that some actions cannot be undone.
Brooke is a beekeeper who lives with her grandparents. Her entire life is bees and it shows in her calm manner. She hires Jacky because she cannot control her dog, a beautiful beagle who has been an asset to her life. The tone of her voice is gentle, which reached out to me. This character was an example of what a wise woman would be like, soft spoken, positive, and lives the life she wants the world to see.
Sophie is Jacky's step daughter who lives with her. She is very intelligent and grounded and mature for her age. Her demeanor is very soft and peaceful. A decision changes the course of her life, making her a strong young woman. I was impressed by her determination for her long term vision. Her fearlessness shows the reader that nothing is impossible. It was beautiful watching this character develop.
However, Sophie is haunted by her past and ritualizes a strange memory that reminds her of why she is hurt. Will she ever escape her pain?

All of the characters are dynamic and complex. The players are so well described that you get a sense that they are actual living people. You will get into their heads and become aware of their desires and experiences.
The ‘mother-daughter’ relationship really takes hold right away. The emotion that both characters share set the tone in these greatly written scenes. It is easy to understand both sides to the story. Both of them lead the reader along, wondering about the when.
Many times I was educated on certain facts as I was reading. I picked up this book knowing nothing about bees and was actually a bit fearful of them. Here the author goes into great detail about the experiences the characters had when around bees. She visited a bee apiary for research, which is clearly seen in the story. I applaud her for being brave and going for it. Because of this, the characters are living the story instead of just playing along. By the time I finished the book I had a much better understanding about bees. They add greatly to the story and the reader can see the affect they have on the characters.
The author offers many words of wisdom throughout the story that will enhance your reading experience. You will feel your soul expand.
The author offers a sense of humor several times. It will have you laughing. The laughs are all in the right places and well thought out.
By the end of the story I felt like I had been on this incredible spiritual journey. Suzie is a very passionate and positive storyteller who will grab your heart. Plan your next free day for the ride and allow yourself to be swept away into the depths of your imagination.

Outstanding!
Wow, this was a really really awesome book. In my opinion, maybe one of her best. This is an ode to nature, to the honeybees, to the dogs. The honeybees, as they are the keystone species, take a very special place in this story. It has inspired me to visit a bee apiary myself and really, I'm impressed with this little creatures. Suzie has done her research very well and you can see that from all the details. Her love for nature meanders through the whole story. Of course, it's not just about bees, the romance is also prominent. The romance is touching, passionate and heartwarming. There are a few emotional twists and turns, very unexpected ones and pulled at my heart strings. I loved the scene in the hospital with nana, telling the beautiful little tale. It was moving. I have laughed at Hazel and Marie, the bickering couple. They and the beast are really the funny part of the story. I felt so sorry for Sophie, struggling for so long with the letter and I was happy when she let go of her anger. Her character is very well developed, you feel connected with her. This is also true for Jacky and Brooke, 2 women who melt your heart. The story is about love, friendship, forgiveness and communication. The basis for every relationship and the basis for this story. From now on, I dance with an open heart and mind through all of life's ups and downs and I know you will too after reading this book. It is outstanding and hats off for the author.

OMG, she does it again. I have read all of Suzie's books and they never disapoint. When i say this next part i dont mean it in a negative way AT ALL! Her books are beautifly simple.
I love that you can pick up her books and enjoy the stories around the simply complicated emotion of love and learning about the journeys of her charachters.
This book took me to a world where nature wins. Hands down. The natural grieving process and the complex emotions that are tied to this.
Its also take an indepth look in to one of natures most important but misunderstood activities. Bee colonyies.
I loved the charachters in the book. I fell in to their lives and couldnt put it down. I adored this book and wished it would g on forever. I felt the same about the last one too!

In the Dance Suzie Carr tackles mourning and it's a score.
The characters are fully alive! I can't count how many times I've surprised myself smiling or on the verge of tears. Gosh I even wanted to go crash the car of a certain character but I won't say more details cause it would be a spoil ☺
As usual I love her writing style and with some passages (guided meditation made by a character) it is truly poetic and brings your heart in the climax of joy and peacefulness.
Definitely a 5 stars for me ☺

Wow! I finished listening to the audio book of The Dance by Suzie Carr. This is a superb book, that packs an emotional punch with a gifted narrator whose voice is smooth and complements the poetic writing style. If you're looking for an emotional journey this is your book for the weekend.

Quick read. Loved the relationship between the mother and daughter. The love story was nice. The bees stole the show!

I loved this book for many reasons. First of all it gave me back a sense of what life used to be like before lockdown - okay, all books do that, but I found an easy freshness to life here. Then Suzy Carr tackled some important issues here in a realistic way. And then came the bees - fascinating insights into how they live. I feel very happy to recommend this book. I also suspect I might re-read it in a couple of years time.

This is a sweet story, I enjoyed the journey with mother and daughter, and their battles with grief. It was all quite predictable, but I did learn a thing or two about bees. 🐝All in all it was a fairly decent read.

Sweet Like Honey
Life isn’t always honey and roses but a sweet story came out of heartbreak. I do have to say it sounds like we should all pay a little more attention to bees.

“That’s when it dawned on Brooke. Jacky struggled down the side of her proverbial hive, fighting her footing and balance before moving on to the next step in life. She had to go through the motions or she’d never find her peace. Steps simply could not be avoided because each step provided the know-how and guidance for the ones that followed. It would be too easy to take Jacky by the hand and lead her to that peace. She needed to find that on her own. She had to suffer and carve her own path toward it.”

The loss of a loved one is never easy to overcome, Jacky and Sophie go through this ordeal and live in tearing, pain, suffering, guilt and resentment. The meeting with Brooke, Beekeeper, a beautiful and gentle woman and passionate about her work, is a blessing! it will soothe their pain by exploring the beauty and generosity of bees that live in harmony with nature. These two characters, mother and daughter, suffering, will communicate again, dispel their misconceptions, their discomfort and regain taste for life ... Jacky will feel alive and appeased again alongside Brooke, these two beautiful women go s' attract each other and swim in happiness in this new sweet and serene relationship.

I am filled with so many emotions after having just finished this book! My heart is filled with so much joy right now! It felt so good to read such a beautiful book that breathed life back into my soul and brought tears of happiness to my face! What I love most about this book is the message within and how I connected to the story and the characters! Plus it was light and funny, sensual and romantic but also very informative on a very important topic!!!! The way the words flowed so effortlessly and the beautiful story made it so hard to put down!!! The beauty of the characters and their growing development made the story fun to read!!! I hope everyone will read this book because it has something in it everyone can enjoy!!!! It's a very special book and I look forward to rereading it for many years to come!!!

It was a 5 when I finished, but I sat on this review for a day and now feel a 4.
Tons of praise for the whole book (if you're not educated about bees beforehand, you will be when done). Main complaints, can't stand when adult characters "giggle" and they do it sooooo much in this book. I meditate, and I felt the mediation stuff in here was a bit much, but honestly that's probably a me thing. Sometimes the character's flaws just rubbed me wrong, but that just made it real. That's mostly it. Oh, and it's overall mild, aka fade to black, in terms of lady time for the genre.
You should read this book.

Jacky, a dog trainer, lost her wife in a car accident after they had an argument. She is now raising her 15 year old step daughter Sophie who is angry with her, by herself. Brooke is a bee keeper with a very out of control dog, which is how they meet. Jacky takes Sophie to see Brooke’s bees and Brooke hires her to help. Brooke helps both Jacky and Sophie to heal The parallel between the life of the bees and the characters lives was outstanding. I love a book where I learn. The bee community was amazing.

Phenomenal
This book is amazing. It's well written and flows seamlessly. I could feel the emotions. I highly recommend it, especially if you have kindle unlimited, though I may end up purchasing a copy for myself just to keep!
This was my first book that I've read by Carr, and I can hardly wait to pick up another! Here's to hoping for many more books of hers to read in the future!

So good
I loved this! It was one of those stories that is hard to put down. I loved learning about the bees! The dance scene was so mesmerizing. I've read other works by Suzie Carr and I think this one is my favorite! Jacky is a very relatable character and Brooke is someone that you aspire to be like.

I personally think this one is Suzie Carrs best, it's about letting go of a loved one and bees and a dog named Bee and so much more you just have to read it to find out what I mean, i learned a lot by the end off this book.

Awesome read. Well drawn characters, a more than believable premise, and an in-depth lesson into honey bees. Suzie Carr definitely hits the mark with this one. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet love story.
