What should a wife believe? The words of her husband or the diary of his mistress? From the author of Secret Society comes a tale of love and jealousy in which two women struggle to separate fact from fiction.
Monica counts her blessings -- she has a husband who is not only devoted to her but is also committed to being a strong, caring father to their twin sons. When Carlos surprises her with an unforgettably romantic getaway, Monica knows her husband is still very much in love with her -- and she with him. But an unexpected package threatens to change everything Monica's ever believed about her husband.
Angela has adopted a sex-them-and-leave-them attitude toward the married men she's bedded over the last five years. Then she met Monica's Carlos. Now she will stop at nothing to get him for herself -- even if that means destroying her own life and another woman's family.
A life changing event for me occurred at my college graduation in May of 2003. National bestselling author, Karen E. Quinones Miller, was the keynote speaker. She delivered a speech about how she had written a book, self-published it and sold so many copies on her own that major publishing houses fought to offer her a deal. I sat amongst my graduating class fully alert and attentive. It was as if Karen was talking directly to me, telling me to bypass trying to get a job in advertising copywriting and follow my true passion of becoming an author. I was unquestionably inspired and two months after graduation I began writing my first novel, Secret Society. Three months later I had a complete manuscript and was ready to move on to the next step.
I conjured up the nerve to email Karen and let her know that she had motivated me to pursue my goals of being a writer and that I had completed my first book. I asked her for tips on self-publishing. She simply told me to let self-publishing be my last resort and that I should first seek a publishing deal. I took her advice and researched the ways to go about submitting a manuscript. I sent a query letter, a synopsis, and the first three chapters of my book to Teri Woods Publishing. Teri Woods was known for publishing urban novels and thus I figured she would be interested in Secret Society. Teri Woods was not only interested, but wanted to buy my book outright and on top of that offer me a five-book deal. I was astonished. The only thing I had to do was write a second book to prove to Teri that I could produce.
I wrote Diary of a Mistress and shortly thereafter I was poised to go to New York to sign a deal with Teri Woods. I was excited and anxious, yet nervous. I was new to the publishing industry and I wasn't sure what the contract should look like, what type of deal was appropriate and most of all if selling my book outright was a smart thing to do. Once again, I conjured up the nerve to email Karen. That time she responded by telling me to call her and her telephone number was in the body of the email. She advised me not to sell my book outright and that I needed someone knowledgeable to attend the meeting with me. After realizing that her own schedule wouldn't permit her to accompany me, she took a chance and asked her agent to do so. Liza Dawson, Karen's agent, agreed to read my manuscripts over the weekend and let me know Monday whether or not she would be willing to represent me. I immediately emailed both manuscripts to Karen and Liza.
The next day I got a call from Liza telling me how good of a writer I was and offering to be my agent. I accepted and the next thing I knew, I had three major publishing houses interested in signing me. Teri Woods was notified of this and was asked for her bid. By Monday, an auction was held. Simon and Schuster was the highest bidder offering a six-figure advance and a two-book deal far exceeding my expectations as a new, unpublished author. I was in awe. Everything that has happened from then on has been a joyride. I am living my dreams and it is with thanks to Karen E. Quinones Miller. I often wonder what I would be doing or where I would be had it not been for Karen's speech those few years ago. There's no telling. But I know for sure that I am grateful that she told her story because it was truly the beginning of the success I enjoy today. Now, I feel it is my obligation to pass it on.

I wrote this novel under pressure. I had told Teri Woods that I had it already completed and she wanted to read it. The truth was, I had nothing more than a title. I told her it needed a little bit of editing and if she could give me a few months I could get her the book as soon as it was up to par.
She gave me the time. But I was a first-time mother with a newborn who I spent much of my time breastfeeding...(I know TMI) but true...I had no idea how I was going to make time to write a book...I prayed on it and every night when the baby was asleep I typed...
The result: A second success! To date Diary of a Mistress is one of my best books! God is good!
My wife always says, "A man just don't stand a chance."
When she first said this, I was slow to speak and gave great thought to the statement she made, because I was ready to debate her claim. I was about to pick up the flag and march into battle with her over such a claim. --I pondered, and pondered some more, then came to the conclusion, she was right, a man just don't stand a chance, and this short novel shows just one aspect on how men don't stand a chance against the games a woman plays.
Women know other women, but she doesn't always sure of her man. This tiny bit of doubt is all the other woman needs to spin her web, and with that in mind, Diary of a Mistress will take you on a journey no one should ever have to travel.
Author Miasha was born a Storyteller, and man can she tell a story. Diary of a Mistress was a damn good read, although most the words was delivered to me from my Audible app, which was narrated for 4 hours and 54 minutes long by, Claudia Alick, who done a wonderful job.
There wasn't many characters and the few the author used, she used quite effectively. Character development was excellent. Subplots was and tension points was perfectly set in their proper places. The hardcover book was well crafted, with a clean font and solid pages.
The story is told from the mistress, Angela's p.o.v., which glues you to your seat and set the wheels into motion of making this novel a page turner. Angela is charmed by her instructor, Carlos. She befriends him and as time advances, so does their relationship. Angela wants to take their relationship to the next level, which puts Carlos and his wife Monica marriage on a road confusion and distrust, and understand why a man don't stand a chance.
This novel is a damn good read and do not think you would be disappointed with spending your money or your time. I give this one 5 stars.
Mann this book was the best book I've read so far this year and I've read 65 so far... This book had me hooked from the first page all the way thru to the end. It had so many twist and turns I was afraid to stop reading in case I missed something. I was totally shocked when I found out the whole story was a lie made up by a crazy deranged woman who wanted a man who didn't want her. Sometimes you have to be careful on who you tell all your business to. Because it can always back fire to hunt you. But Im glad everything worked out in the end. This book had me thinking about it days after I finished reading it.
I have to admit that I really didn't think that this book was going to be that good...boy was I WRONG!!!
I loved this book from the beginning to the end! The storyline was so believable and the characters were easy to relate to. You think that you have this book figured out by the middle but it takes you on so many twists and turns that the ending will surprise you...and then when you think you've read it all...Miasha takes the book to a whole different level!
This book is smaller page-wise by most standard books and makes you want even more...but the story was told very well and I felt like I was offered a complete story! Great Book!!!!
This was a really good book. I thought at first that it would be a story from the "mistress" side of a relationship, but oh how wrong I was. I felt deceived, but it was a great feeling of deception once I learned exactly what was going on. I can usually predict most things that I read, but this one definitely got me and kept me going until the end and even the ending left my mouth hanging wide open. There was so much to expect and not expect. I loved it.
It had a little excitement to it. The 2 main women characters had mental health issues. In the beginning, the husband's character was not clearly established but the belief is that both women "lost it" over him. I would've like to have known more about who each character was. The actions and reactions seemed unreasonable.
Because it is uncommon for books to have an average rating as high as this one has, I was skeptical, wondering if I would agree with the, "average reader". Despite being skeptical, I was pleasantly surprised by this book - it was such a fun book to listen to (I listened to it on audiobook)!
Based on the synopsis, I was expecting an, "urban" story with ho's, schemers and skeezers.... I was way off! Diary of a Mistress is a captivating and engrossing thriller! You won't be reading about hood rats or people doing anything to get their next fix. Diary of a Mistress is an extremely entertaining, realistic story that will surprise the $hit out of you!
I was very impressed with Miasha, an author I hadn't read before. There were a couple of odd words or phrases such as calling a judge, "master" but otherwise this is extremely well-written. At 50% into the book, Miasha threw in a curveball that literally caused me to gasp out loud! I never saw it coming - it blew me away! This twist was like icing on an already great-tasting cake!
After such a powerful, story-altering twist halfway through the book, I wasn't overly impressed with the ending. I think things could've been wrapped up a bit quicker although I can understand why Miasha didn't rush things, possibly wanting to create and ending for the readers who crave a HEA.
As I previously stated, I listened to Diary of a Mistress on audiobook. Not only did I get to enjoy an awesome story but I also got to listen to a remarkable performance by a very skilled narrator. She did a spectacular job narrating this book!
Talk about wild a story! Well this one was one of those books that makes your eyes grow big and mouth wilder with shock and inconceivable to believe how someone can plot to destroy a marriage in such a treacherous way. This novel was captivating and entertaining to read.
This is my first read by this author and I must say that I was impressed. At first I thought it would be a predictable good short read, but after the first Dear Diary entry I was all in. This story deals with several different subject matters with suicide being one. The deceitful nature of one of the characters turned a whole family’s life upside down.
As I started to read this book, I went into it thinking it was going to be the usual husband cheating on his wife storyline; but it wasn't. The book had a good plot and dialogue exchange, and that the narrator did well showing the difference between characters. The book was full of unexpected twists and turns. I was caught at the first chapter. It was surprisingly ending.
Good plot and dialogue exchange but some of the characters actions were just dumb! The narrator performs well differentiating between characters but I just didn't imagine Carlos sounding the way he did and the suicide attempts were not developed enough for me.
This was a good book with a lot of twists and turns. It shows that a person can really be hurt by divorce, which I can relate to. It also shows that lies can be deadly. And, sometimes we need to stop and listen. Enjoyed it!
What a story! I started reading this book thinking it would play out a certain way and then boom, everything changed. This book was filled with drama and plot twists galore. It was well written and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Kenya E Soul Sistahs Book Club
This was the first time listening to a book by this author and she did not disappoint. Angela was bats**t crazy and she tried to destroy a family due to her delusions. I am going to look for other titles by this author and I hope they are available through audible or the public library.
This was a really good read ! I was on my toes from the beginning to the end . I knew something wasn’t right with the mistress and how it ended was disaterous but It all came together in the end. I definitely recommend this to read .
Absolutely a must read...I was soon into this book!
Absolutely a must read...I was soooooo into this book! Please read as soon as possible..these reviews are soon bothersome..you have to write a required number of words...not nice!
Miasha DOES IT AGAIN! Couldn't put the book down, finished it within a few hours. Hooked from the very beginning! Miasha is all about the plot twists.. totally wasn't expecting the outcome. Highly recommended, can't wait to read more of her novels!
My first read by this author. This book started out slow for me but as I continued to read it pulled me in. Angela was dealing with some mental issues was delusional and obsessed with another woman's husband. She caused a lot of problems with that diary. Glad that all ended well.
This was a crazy story. The details that this lady provided were bananas, and I could see something escalating to this level in some cases. Carlos is a better man than most. Good book.
