Lane Duke, game designer and mogul, is carving the edge of his company’s most advanced release just days away. Excitement and tension are jacked tight. The future is wide open. Until he sees his past rise out of the Pacific in a barely there bikini, and 12 years disappear in a blink.

Luz De Luna doesn’t want to dig up the past and Lane is her past with a capital P. Newly single, she’s returned to San Clemente to bury some ghosts, but it’s hard to move on when the path to personal redemption is blocked by the one man who won’t forgive and she can’t forget.

Sinclair has loved reading romance novels since she discovered Barbara Cartland historical romances when she was in sixth grade. By seventh grade, she was haunting the library shelves looking to fall in love over and over again with the heroes born from the imaginations of her favorite authors. After teaching writing classes and workshops to adults and teens for many years in Seattle and Portland, she returned to her first love of reading romances and became an editor for Tule Publishing last year. Sinclair lives in Oregon’s wine country where she and her family own a small vineyard of Pinot Noir and where she dreams of being able to write at a desk like Jane Austen instead of in parking lots waiting for her kids to finish one of their 12,000 extracurricular activities.

Excellent book! Two brothers, one woman, and a love that can't be denied made for an incredible read. Luz de Luna is finally a free woman. Out from under the tight controls of her cheating husband Alex Duke. She returns to San Clemente to repair her very fragile relationship with her sister. What she doesn't want or need is to deal with Lane Duke and the past they shared but deal she must!

Lane Duke has his life right were he wants it. He's grown his gaming company to epic size and has a cutting edge demonstration coming up that needs his focus. His focus unfortunately is blown to bits when Luz de Luna shows up in San Clemente after 12 years. He's loved her for as long as he can remember but her betrayal all those years ago made him wall up his heart to any others and he's determined to keep those walls in place around Luz.

Absolutely a book I recommend to everyone.

This book made me go through a gamut of emotions and feelings. I felt anger, elation, fear, happiness, guilt. I wanted to cry and laugh and hit and scream and giggle and hide in a hole somewhere. This story will make you FEEL! do not doubt that for a second. In the end, I just wanted to roll on the floor and laugh, jump up and down, do a happy dance and say "Up yours Alex, you suck!!"

And I think this is exactly what Luz and Lane set out to do in their lives respectively, so YAY! for them. Loved it!

Broken is a good story and I think Sinclair Jane has what it takes to be a successful writer though some aspects of this book annoyed me. Early on I felt as though Ms Jane was trying to cram every idea the sun into as few sentences as possible. Quite a few sentences in the first few chapters were way too long and way too complex, which detracted from the flow of the story. I counted 64 words in one sentence and that is just way too much. Thankfully the sentence lengths shortened as the book progressed, making the plot easier to follow.

Some sentences were just plain clumsy. "He tugged his t-shirt that Hollis had designed the graphics for over his head when the hostess scowled at him" would flow better written something like "When the hostess scowled at him he tugged on his t-shirt that Hollis had designed the graphics for," or perhaps "When the hostess scowled at him he tugged on his t-shirt. Hollis had designed the graphics, which made it special."

So what was good about this book? Well, as I got past the above problems, the story grew on me, the characters grew on me and I found myself binge reading. Definitely a plus. If you're into beach and surf culture then then the setting is going to rock your socks. I gather San Clemente is blessed with golden sands, golden bodies, ripped abs and seriously good waves. Whether or not that's true, this book does a great job of selling Sam Clemente as a surfing tourism destination. Finally there's the nice feeling you get when the little people get the better of big money and even bigger power. You can't help but cheer when Luz bests her slime-ball husband.

Broken is book three in the Sons of San Clemente series. The first two books will help with context but I really think this book works OK by itself. Enjoy!

Broken (Sons of San Clemente, Book 3) by Sinclair Jayne is an emotional drama filled story. I had read Wrecked by this same author so I was pleased to see that she has continued to write her characters with characterization depth. Each book shows Ms. Jayne’s growth as a writer and teller of stories. Because of the wealthy family involved it is a “Dallas” California style of story with some arrogant and controlling family members as much as it is a second chance story.

Luz de Luna Duke and Lane Duke seem stuck in the past and in danger of making the same mistakes. At times I wanted to remind both of them that they were mature adults now and should behave as such. Honestly though, it was their tendency to resort to former behavior that made these two characters genuine. Still, I wanted better for them; to find a way out of the past hurts to a future together. I was rooting for them all the way and while I am so not a violent person, slapping Lane’s mother definitely on my wish list at one point in the story. Yeah, this is a story that pulls you into it.

A side note, with it being an election year, I found the political aspirations of the Duke family to be both honest and frightening. It is easy to think that this is the type of people we have running our government or up for election.

An engaging story written with such enthusiasm it was easy to visualize it unfolding right before my eyes.

Luz de Luna Duke's marriage didn't work out as she planned. She spent ten years with Alex and his controlling family. It finally came to the point where Luz couldn't take it anymore. She is finished with the lies and demands of the Dukes. She wants a divorce.

Luz has returned to her home town of San Clemente looking for her sister Paz. She is ready to make amends with Paz and start her life over again. But who was the first person she runs into, none other than Lane Duke, Alex's brother, Luz's first love.

Lane never stopped loving Luz. He couldn't believe she was back in town. Why was she there? Surely his family didn't send her to find him. He turned away from his family twelve years ago and never looked back. Lane fights his feelings for Luz at first. Then he decides to give in and do whatever it takes to get her back, even if it means going up against his powerful family.

This series is highly addictive. I am ready for another addition right now. The passion is off the charts in this book.

An amazing read of second chance love. Did Luz marry the wrong brother and now that she is finally out of his controlling ways. She returns to San Clemente to repair her relationship with her sister, not expecting to see Lane, the brother whom she really loves.

This is a story that I could not put down, the author has written an engaging story that will keep you turning the pages. Young love that has matured through the years.

This is one of those stories that you don’t really know what is going on until it happens, in the best possible way. The story keeps you engrossed and is totally twisting back and forth the entire way through. There is a history with the two main characters and though 12 years have passed in terms of their relationship it’s almost as if no time has. Ms. Jayne has done a terrific job putting together a well thought out amazingly written novella that it’s cookie cutter nor is it clean, but it is real and it is something you will love.

I enjoyed stepping back to San Clemente. Luz has finally had enough after 10 long years of being told what to do. She wants to reconnect with her sister Paz and have a fresh start. She runs into Lane and has flashbacks of them together, years ago. As Luz finds herself, she comes to peace with other aspects of her life. A great addition to the series.

I loved everything about this book - great storyline, character development and dialogue. The chemistry between Lane and Luz is sizzling and Sinclair Jayne did a good job of characterizing their emotions at the situation they've found themselves in. The finale with her abusive ex-husband makes you want to cheer out loud! This is the third in the Sons of San Clemente series and I hope there's more to come for some of the other characters.

Great addition to this series!! I love the Sons of San Clemente series, and this book fits in perfectly. Sinclair did a great job in writing this book. I enjoyed reading the main characters overcoming their fears and taking a second chance at love. Some of the characters from the previous book appear, but you can read it as a standalone.

Broken by Sinclair Jayne is part of a series but can easily be read as a stand alone. It is a little to messy of a plot and the story line is just doing it for me. But it still manages to make it to an okay story with decent characters but the delivery just lacks something to make it a great story.

I think each book in this series gets better and better. Start with book one to fully enjoy the community of San Clemente. Luz and Lane have a history that includes lots of hurt. Can they find a way to put it all in the past and enjoy the future together?

Another great read by Sinclair Jayne. Adversity, deceit, conniving, disfunctional family dynamics, but most of all enduring love. This book hits all the right notes.

Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

I'll be completely honest, it took my a bit to get into this one. I was having a hard time connecting to either Luz or Lane, but by the end, I was so excited to see them get together.

Luz is trying to figure out who she is now that she's escaped a terrible marriage to the brother of the only man she ever loved. Lane has never given up on her...hoping that one day, they'd find their way back to one another. I think I've read one other San Clemente book, but I found my issue to be the same. Jayne mentions a lot of secondary and tertiary characters, but we never find out more about them. Heck, I couldn't even tell what gender people were. It left me confused and wanting to know more about life in San Clemente.

Overall, a decent book with a great ending.

"Broken" by Sinclair Jayne is book three in the Sons of San Clemente. This is Lane Duke and Luz de Luna Duke's story.

Lane and Luz had a past and get reacquainted after twelve years. Even though Lane was hurt by Luz he still cares enough for her that he is able to override his hurt and anger to help her. I enjoyed watching Lane and Luz work through the hurts from their past. There were some surprising information that they both discovered. You will need to read it to find out. It will be worth it.

This story starts off grabbing your attention right away and keeps it. It is an amazing story of what some people will do for their own ambition or selfishness, no matter the cost to other people. I really enjoyed Lane and Luz's story. It included forgiveness, steamy intimate scenes, and experiencing true love.

I really liked this book. It has a great storyline, filled with regrets, sorrows, and, of course, love. The scene is San Clemente, CA where the surf is great. Luz de Luna Duke goes back to her hometown, San Clemente, in desperate need to find herself again. She has been the trophy wife to Alex Duke who manipulated her every move as he strove for political positions. Finding him in a delicate position with another woman was the final straw. To fix her broken relationship with her sister, Paz, is her first priority but she sees her once love, Lane Duke, on the beach first and all forms of craziness break out in her heart.
Lane is Alex’s brother and the once only love of Luz. Manipulations by Alex and miscommunications with Luz drove them as far apart as could be. Seeing her on the beach brings back all the pain and hurt their break up produced. He soon finds himself needing to protect her and what had been dormant in their hearts roars to life.

Sinclair Jayne has us back in San Clemente with Broken. This latest visit back with the Sons of San Clemente is with book 3, Broken. Jayne gives a wonderful second chance romance with Luz and Lane.

Luz is back in her hometown, looking to move beyond her past. When she runs into Lane, her first love, the strings of the past aren't so easily let go.

Jayne continues to give readers characters that demand attention and storylines that want to be read. The pages were turning until the very end. Broken is a second chance romance I couldn't put down.
