A fun read.

Emily has always thought she disliked Mark Hunter. She would go out of her way to avoid him. But when her brother disappears, she forces herself to ask him if he knows where he might be.

Mark is more than happy to help Emily even though she fustrates the heck out of him. He soon discovers that she is in more danger than she knows. It isn't just a missing brother she has to deal with.

I enjoyed reading this tangled mess that Emily finds herself in because of her scamp of a brother and his associates,an ex-fiance, a jealous mistress, and mean-spirited gossips. Definitely a good book to put a smile on your face.

Mary Brendan is a good writer but unfortunately she doesn't have any idea of the behaviour or words used by regency characters. They did not say 'what are you gonna do?' I left off on page 26 when the modest maiden meets her married flame. Her little pink tongue immediately slips out and she licks her lips. Thus signalling to the rake thar she is equally eager as any harlot for bedsport. That's when she is not going in a daze.See the hero.Go in a daze.Walking on the road?Go in a daze.Have to answer something? Ummm l was just thinking about something in a daze. Now what could induce me to keep reading? I am in a daze.
Harlequin historical novels of course could not care less about historical lady like behaviour and when all she does is bite her lips chew her lips lick her moistened her lips pouted 21 times in 14 pages, getmeouttahere.
Kasey Michael is possessed with characters winking .Mary b has a lip fetish.

At that time it was “so whats your price ,harlot’ but 21st century American writers wouldn't know that would they? Thrown this book at the wall mid-bite and chewing on soft lower lip so that 9 paras can be wasted on that effect it has on whassisname oh the hero?Or was it her flame who married a richer woman? After seducing lip licker who is now spoilt goods. Couldn't be bothered to keep track with what the story is all about when gems like 'Tarquin cuffed his dewy nose' are around.Does that mean an aristo is wiping his runny nose with his sleeve in public or is he wailing ?
Oh yeah I forgot. How do I know a guy is the hero? He always speaks hoarsely. In all her books. The females never talk , they wail. The villains always having their tongues snaking out through their lips... Lips again? Never read her ever ever...

Once in a while, I read regency novels because I love knowing the cultures and behaviors of people from centuries ago. So I got this Wanton Bride from Harlequin Regency edition at my favorite bookstore and spent an evening with Sir Mark Hunter and the tempting Emily Beaumont.

When Emily's older brother Tarquin went MIA or missing in action, she thought of the worst that her brother could have experienced. Tarquin had been known to accumulate a lot of debts and failed to pay, so this got Emily worried. And when she haven't heard from him for a long time, she thought one of his shenanigans got the worst of him, so Emily finally asked for assistance from an unlikely ally, Sir Mark Hunter. For his part, he was, firstly, hesitant to mingle with her, since he has been reputed to be having another mistress . The fact that Emily seemed to have a reckless attitude towards him, made Mark put her off. Soon he grew quite intrigued with Emily's beauty and aloofness towards him.

While Emily disliked going to Mark for help, she did her best to make sure that her brother was safe from harm. Little did she know that she was going straight to the devil's hands when she thought she was going to her brother's aid. Good thing, Mark was wise and resourceful; he was able to save the damsel in the nick of time. Or was he really the one who saved her?

Amidst the chaos that Tarquin has created is a scandal waiting to be revealed. A secret Emily never wanted anyone else to know. Would she be able to hide the truth from Mark after coming to her aid? And by the way, what's with Emily's family? It didn't look like her father was really concerned about his son's whereabouts. I wonder why.

I liked the story of The Wanton Bride. There were some tensed moments between the characters, as well as romantic suspense. I didn't know that this was actually a sequel to a Hunter trilogy. It's only now that I discovered this info when I was looking for an image to put up here on my blog. So now I need to read the first book so I could understand The Hunter brothers even more.

Let me also say that the author Mary Brendan certainly knew a lot about regency, because I learned a thing or two after reading this book. Looking forward to reading more of her works.

My rating for The Wanton Bride: 4 ****

When Emily Beaumont's older brother disappears, she assumes he is in trouble and afraid to tell their parents that he needs help. She requests assistance from Mark Hunter, a friend of her brother that irritates yet fascinates her. For his part, Mark is intrigued by Emily and agrees to assist in seeking for Tarquin, especially when Emily is approached by a pimp claiming Tarquin is married and ill and needs her help. As Mark and Emily seek the truth of Tarquin's whereabouts and try to keep scandal from reaching her family, it is Emily's own past that may cause the most damage and keep them from exploring the sparks that keep smoldering between them.

This is an enjoyable historical romance story about two people not quite as perfect as society expects.
