This book has been written for two groups of people. Firstly, it is a guide to those who are obese on the extent of the problem, the benefits of weight loss, the options for achieving weight loss, the LAP-BAND as one of those options and an analysis of whether it is your best option. Secondly, it is written for you if you have made the decision to proceed with the LAP-BAND procedure and need to know what will happen at the time of surgery, what are the guidelines for eating, exercise and lifestyle, and how you can contribute to achieving an optimal outcome.
I went ahead and finished this book, even though about half way through, I decided against the band in favor of the gastric sleeve.
If, however, I were going to have the band surgery, this would serve as a good guide. However, much of it is repetetive and much of it doesn't jive with the information handed out by my program. The author is Australian and, as such, explains the Australian guidelines and follow-up conditions which seem to be much different from what I've heard for a US program (mine, at least, through Geisinger).
