THANK you Lawrence Wallace for this book, I've needed it!!!

Excellent advice. Initially when I down loaded this book I assumed it may just be another book with semi helpful advice. Or that this book could be basic common knowledge. Not at all! I'm so happy with the massive insight I received. The author a fascinating, fresh outlook on a variety of behavioral therapy techniques that I had never heard of. This opens a whole new world of possibilities to me. I have to go back to the skills the author offers to the reader. He applies his intellectual perspective in such a unique open, enlightening manner
I was able to not only get the source of many of these behavioral habits/issues, and breaking down my learned techniques, but I am now capable of understanding. It's as if I've had a puzzle in front of me missing a piece for a very long time. I got closer to the piece with each book and articles and professional services but couldn't find the exact piece until now!

Offers Easy To Comprehend Advice
Based on the belief that happiness is a trainable, attainable skill Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: 7 Steps to Freedom from Anxiety, Depression, and Intrusive Thoughts (Training, Techniques, Course, Self-Help Book 1) by Lawrence Wallace offers insight into the CBT process that even someone like me, who at fifty years old has only been exposed to therapy as a teenager, can appreciate. Each step is laid out is clear, well-defined chapters that make them easy to follow and digest. As you are taken through each of the steps, the author offers great insight into what to expect and gives the reader motivation that comes across as sincere. You feel that he has been there and done that. We can all benefit from the ideas behind and by having the skill set of that the CBT techniques provide. I am really excited about the concept of a thought journal and will be incorporating one into my life as a way to dispel some of the negative thoughts that invade my head. I believe this well-written book can help you grow as a person by offering you the chance to realize your role in your own emotional upheaval. It can guide you in understanding how you can take back your power. Just open your mind to CBT as the clever cover eludes to.

Great read

This is great for people with anxiety. I think half the battle is knowing how the brain works. Then the next step is practicing what you learned.

I will start off by saying that in this review I am not going to go into detail of what the cognitive behavioral theory in this book is or what the seven steps are. since that would take a very long time to do so, this review is just going to be a basic overview of the things I like about this book and the things I did not.



First I will say that I did enjoy this book, which I will be perfectly honest in saying that when I first got the book I was skeptical, I figure it would be a bunch of flowery languages disguising information most people already know, but I will say I was pleasantly surprised that this was actually very useful and useable information. The author did a fantastic job of breaking down, something as large and overwhelming as, the cognitive behavioral theory into seven easily understandable and usable steps. By doing so it makes the theory repeatable, which helps it become a habit and of course things that are habits help to change the way a person thinks and views situations and their thoughts on those situations. I also really enjoyed how the author added factual information, it shows that this theory is based on facts and that it has been thoroughly tested. The author also did make it a point that this factual information was not overly done so that the reader felt they were reading a textbook. Just enough to show the reader that what is written isn't just purely made up by the author.



I also like the additions in and to the book, the first being the addition of the look into the aspect of religions and how they relate to this theory, but I will say one issue I did have with the book was that of all the religions that were featured where not all featured equally which might seem like some where favored over others. Second would be the addition of the worksheets at the end of the book are also a huge plus, since the book states to write down lots information that is beneficial in helping changing the thoughts. The third and final would be the steps to Peace of Mind, it was short and sweet!



Overall, I would give this a four out of five stars. For someone finding themselves constantly thinking negative thoughts, those with anxiety and depression this step by step processes is very useful and a this book I would highly recommend to them.

This was a solid introduction to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but for me it was missing something. I didn't get as much out of this book as I had hoped. I picked this one up when it was free in my attempt to read more variety of non-fiction books and had just finished one about CBT techniques when it came to self esteem and I found that book to more focused and have better examples. This book seemed to lack direction and focus at times for me. It felt very broad tackling anxiety and depression in general. I felt the examples weren't as specific and I would've liked to see more examples and techniques cover this. I found the first few chapters the most useful. And then some of the chapters felt like they had a different vibe or direction/ audience. I also felt some of the advice wasn't really useful for me, but that's okay. I think lots of different people can get something out of this book. It just wasn't quite what I had hoped for.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy talks about seven steps that can help a person overcome their anxiety and negative thoughts. It is written by Lawrence Wallace. It is a nonfiction book that was released in 2014.

I really enjoyed this book. I started reading it thinking that it would just be a boring jumble of technical wording, but I was pleasantly surprised to find I was wrong. I really enjoyed the book. In fact, I'd love to go back and take notes on the book when I'm able to. It's very helpful and very easy to follow. 42

There wasn't anything I didn't like about this book. There were the usual typos in the book. It could use a slight polish up, but other than that, it was great. There weren't any problems. It was an easy and short read that I enjoyed very much.

I do fully recommend this book. Especially for anybody who suffers from mental disorders. I feel that it could really be beneficial to somebody's life. I would get many physical copies of this book if I could and pass them along to people I feel really need it. That's how impressed I was with this book.

This book uses the teachings of CBT along with the teachings of rational emotive behavior therapy to help people overcome their feelings of anxiety and panic. It is meant to be used by clients either by themselves or with the guidance of a therapist.

I found it very useful and interesting! It takes you through each of the ways to overcome your anxiety in an informative and interesting way. With easy to follow exercises to help along the way! It builds a foundation in modern biochemistry and cognition and relates them to all religions and ancient philosophies.

Wonderfully Surprised

Concise. No wasted words, straight to the point, full, rich and most of all interesting.
Most wonderfull is the embrace of religion, spirituality and philosophy as a practice in cognitive behavioral therapy. It is a breath of fresh air in an all too secular world. Word, meditation and prayer are highly valued. Philosophy, from the Greeks, is shown to embody much of what is cognitive behavioral therapy. Healthier living is also shown to influence ones thoughts and lives for the better.
I was afraid this book would be long and tiresome but not so. At times I read a few paragraphs over. At other times I stopped to take in what I had read. Extremely informative on psychology, and puts forth a clear methodology to address ones thoughts and the foundations for those thoughts in an effort to make ones life better. Includes worksheets.
Almost anyone, and I mean anyone, will find this book beneficial. It encourages one to seek professional help in certain more serious circumstances. I could describe this as the flesh and bone behind any self-help program.

Really helps put in perspective what is important in life. I am an anxiety suffer and this helps alleviate some of the fears I have. A great read for someone looking for peace and how to cope with suffering.

This book was very informative. It had the history of CBT, where it originated from, and the different components that make our cognitive behavioral therapy. It was an invaluable tool.

Decent overview

This book was a decent overview of cognitive behavioral therapy. It was easy to read and understand. It didn't use technical language and put things in a way everyone can understand.

There were some grammatical errors I noticed as reading. I also wish it would have more citations. There were only a few throughout the entire book! That gives it less credibility.

I also didn't love how it had a huge section on religion. It seemed a bit off topic. I was ok with the first little bit. It seemed to be useful even if a bit weird. But it went on too long. It felt like religion was talked about more than CBT was.

Overall, a decent book to give you an idea of how cognitive behavioral therapy works and what it means. There are also a lot of concrete ideas for how to help improve your mood, which I found useful.

CBT plus

I actually liked the book in that you talked about CBT more toward the end, and then it compared them to some of the other less philosophical, thought. I guess it's unfair to call different religions less philosophical than CBT. But just different compared to each other they both and they all have the same goal in mind. That Golden thread that we've throughout all of human history and thought. Personally I was interested more in the stoic thought associated with CBT. But I was surprised and delighted when he added religion to the mix and did a comparison.

An amazing book that touches on CBT as well as Stoic and Buddhist philosophy! If you're suffering from anxiety, depression, or any mood disorder this book will really help. The author writes as a former suffer of anxiety, depression, and intrusive thoughts and has skillfully put together the most effective mindset training into a short (but powerful) read.

This book is a great gift to improve your mental health! Extremely Recommended!

Easy to use in daily life, each step prepares the reader for the steps ahead in order to beat anxiety and negative thought processes.This book stands out for its easily readable explanation of what cognitive behavioral therapy is and the practical advice. I really love the lessons I learned from here. The workbook instruction was useful and easy to follow. Well written great started options to self help and I strongly recommend it.

I enjoyed the exercises and lessons in this book. It was evidence that the author took his time with his research and understood how to explain the exercises so that readers could effectively use the tools. If you're interested in learning more about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I'd recommend this book.

this book to be a mostly easy read. Negative thoughts about my self and societal worth are frequently present, and it's very easy to fall into the trap of believing my limitations are catastrophic and unchangeable. I consider this a must-read for anyone struggling with mental illness or stressful situations.

I am glad that I bought this audiobook since I am suffering from anxiety and having some attacks as well. I've had conversations with various anxiety professionals over the years about cognitive behavioral therapy and while I had a vague understanding of it, this book showed me how little a truly knew.

Provided some excellent tips that really helped with managing my anxiety. The inclusion of Buddhist and Stoic practices was very interesting and useful. I have already recommended this to a friend, and look forward to seeing more from Mr Wallace.

I found this book to be extremely helpful and full of tips, practices, and techniques to help dig you out of the hole called depression you may find yourself in. I can’t wait to start implementing some of these things in my daily life. To be happy you must think happy thoughts.

I found this step by step explanation of CBT very useful and easy to understand. I take it to my CBT group and follow along easily. I find the book to be more descriptive and easy to understand compared to the same concepts and skills I learn in my group. Highly suggest!
