I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed looking at all of the beautiful pictures and was able to garner a few ideas for myself. However, I would highly recommend this book in hardcover form as opposed to the ebook. I personally intend to purchase this gorgeous book!
If you already feel whipped and overwhelmed by the season, you should probably NOT pick up this book. Here be lush pictures of GORGEOUS homes decorated to the teeth by people with far too much time and money on their hands. There are some absolutely BOFFO trees like the ones in Christopher Radko's splendid abode: (Incidentally, the only designer in this book whose name I recognized.)
There are a few too many photos of table settings for my taste, though I had to chuckle at the one featuring pricey Spode plates next to the cute plastic ones I got years ago at Target. I also liked some of the unexpected color combinations like lime green and teal blue. Yummy!
Whether you like traditional or artsy decor, there's something here that may inspire you.
'Tis a fairly expensive book, so you might want to request it through inter-library loan like I did. (And, help keep ILL librarians like me employed - thank you very much.)
As a certified nosey person, I was in heaven perusing this book.
Copy provided by Netgalley and Schiffer Publishing in exchange for an unbiased review.
What a lovely book this is. It’s full of pictures and stories of the homes of quite a few interior decorators decorated for the Christmas season. The stories are interesting, the photographs are inspiring. Some of the decorating styles are minimalist and others are over-the-top craziness, but they’re all great fun to look at and pick apart for ideas for your own home. I received a PDF version for review purposes, and it looked great on an iPad. But it’s no doubt best seen as a gorgeous “coffee table” book to set out during the holiday season. I might not be able to resist buying a hardcopy for that very purpose.
Check out from the library. Interesting to see inside the homes of these designers in a relatively unstaged way. However, no new ideas and the photographs were not of the quality which I would expect in a book like this. The type of book to flip through but not refer back to.
This is a beautiful design book of homes decorated and styled for the Christmas holidays by designers with extreme decorating styles - they have gone all out to turn their homes into a festive space.
I love looking into peoples homes to see how real people live rather than a perfectly styled space just for a magazine or book spread. I just find it to be more real and being that in this case the owners are interior designers and decorators - their homes are absolutely exquisite!
There are stories of how each designer celebrated Christmas with their friends and family and it it's nice to have this personal touch to the book so it isn't just about decorating but the people who live there as well and how they celebrate the season.
The book has so many ideas to decorate your home for Christmas and whilst I usually change up my themes each year I have taken away some great ideas to try out. A great tip is to buy quality over quantity - that's one that I have come to realise and agree with wholeheartedly.
These homes are all located in America which has a winter Christmas and the themes suit a cold and cosy season which is quite different to my summer Australian Christmas where I decorate with brights and a summery theme!
A hardcopy of this book is a must to enjoy the stunning images and it is already taking pride of place on my coffee table at Christmas time. What a great gift idea it is too!
I recommend this design book to anyone who loves to decorate for Christmas in a classy and elegant way.
As the author says at the introduction of this book, i am also one of those people that loves to look into windows of other people's homes during christmas time, and see how they decorated.
So this book is kind of perfect for me.
While the ebook was nice, i think that overall all those kind son picture books deserve to be owned as actual physical books so that you can really appreciate the pictures and spreads and not have a double site spread split into two.
But even in ebook form this book was gorgeous.
And while not all decorations were to my taste or some very extreme it was still so beautiful to look through and discover how many other people decorate their homes during christmas.
You certainly get ideas on how you could decorate for next christmas -even if i would only ever do it in a much more decent version of those extravagant homes.
If you love christmas, and if you love seeing how others decorate this is definitely a must!
*I received the ebook for free in exchange for honest review, thanks to NetGalley, the Publishers and the author!*
Do NOT buy this as an ebook. The font is small and the pictures are often hard to see on a small screen. I have a feeling that this is stunning as a coffee-table book though, of course, I can't judge it that way at the moment. Was this book good? It was interesting. I really enjoyed voyeur-ing into peoples Christmas homes. And these homes were beautiful. Just perfectly prepped for the holidays. What are the other reasons for only three stars? There are a lot of adjectives in this book. A lot. A LOT. And I get that a design book needs adjectives but it feels like someone sat down with a thesaurus and then regurgitated it. Also, not all of the pics are Christmas-y. There's a small percentage that are just home pictures. Is that to show that not every inch of a designer's home is decorated? I'm just not sure.
What a beautiful book, and while I enjoyed reading it in eBook form I must say it would be worth buying this as a physical copy as I doubt we are seeing it at it's full potential.
The houses shown are so beautiful. Not all are to my taste but I am that nosy person who loves seeing into peoples homes especially at Christmas time when I feel houses come to life!
There are some very good tips from the designers such as buying fewer quality pieces and enjoying them for many years.
I also liked that the true meaning of Christmas was not ignored and omitted from the book.
Thanks to Net Galley for an Arc copy in exchange for an unbiased review.
Super disappointing. Lots of typos. Many of the photos were dark and unclear. And for some reason, the authors chose to highlight many rooms with little to no Christmas decor at all (one barely visible white "scented" candle on a nightstand earned a two-page spread.) Also, in many of the sections, featured two or three photographs of the same vignette with virtually the same point-of-view.
Look closely and you will discover most of the photographs were provided by the designers featured. I almost want to believe this was self-published with no editing of any kind.
A wonderful feelgood guide to everything Christmas from how to look after and store the decorations to using them to dress the rooms for this most happy time of the year. Very highly recommended. I was given a digital copy of this book by the publisher Schiffer via Netgalley in return for an honest unbiased review.
Although not always my style, the people watching aspect and the fun stories of how others celebrate my favorite holiday still made it enjoyable. Solid 3 stars. I received this book as an advanced reader copy from http://edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com/
