The Nostradamus Prophecies: A modern day descendant of the famed French seer, Nostradamus, is in a race against time to decipher her ancestor’s prophecies and stop the world destruction he predicted.
View To A Kill is the first installment in Lisa Hughey's brand new series: The Nostradamus Prophecies, a sexy paranormal romantic suspense series.
USA Today Bestselling Author Lisa Hughey started writing romance in the fourth grade. That particular story involved a prince and an engagement. Now, she writes about strong heroines who are perfectly capable of rescuing themselves and the heroes who love both their strength and their vulnerability. She pens romances of all types—suspense, paranormal, and contemporary—but at their heart, all her books celebrate the power of love.
She lives in Cape Ann Massachusetts with her fabulously supportive husband, two out of three awesome mostly-grown kids, and one somewhat grumpy cat.
Yoga, hiking, and traveling are her favorite ways to pass the time when she isn’t plotting new ways to get her characters to fall in love.
Mari Johnson had just found out that she had a twin brother that was separated from her at birth. Her brother had been raised by their father and she by their mother. Now, shortly after the two had met and formed a bond Mari's brother is said to have committed suicide. Mari knows though that there is no way that her brother was suicidal and wants to get to the bottom of what had happened.
The only lead Mari has to find out anything on her brother's death is that Mari continues to have dreams of his last moments every night. The two both had abilities and he had been teaching Mari how to use hers before his passing. Mari knows that her brother was a part of a covert op with the CIA but little about what his mission had been so her mission now is to get close to her brother's sexy partner Nik Stanley.
View To A Kill is the first book in the Nostradamus Prophecies by Lisa Hughey. Immediately the story gets into how Mari has dreams of her brother that are a flashback of what had happened even though she was not there that night. From there you learn more of the abilities of other characters in the story and it really became quite an intriguing read.
I will say the one thing I found is that this could have used a bit more explanation of what the guys actually do. The hints at visual/physical ops wasn't expanded on so I just had to assume it had something to do with the way Mari was seeing things she hadn't been there for.
Otherwise, this book really went at a fast pace with the mix of psychic type of abilities while trying to solve the mystery of what had happened to Mari's brother along with a developing hot and steamy romance. Just my type of read mixing so many different elements into a story and I will definitely be continuing one with the series.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I’m not entirely sure what to think about this book. I went into it with virtually no expectations. Guess what? I really enjoyed it. This is romantic suspense with a twist of paranormal tied in with prophecies that were made by Nostradamus which made it utterly unique and a pleasure to read. There were many twists and turns so I never knew what was going to happen. It is well written and engaging. Marisol Johnson has been dreaming about her twin John who died in a special ops mission with specter. Nik was on the other side of the roof watching what was happening and it looked as if John committed suicide but through the dreams that wasn’t the case. We have conspiracy theories and the main characters had chemistry. I personally didn’t like Hawk and Kel but mainly for the fact that they didn’t believe Nik. I felt as if they abandoned him. So you’re probably wondering how Nostradamus is involved with all this, right? Well he and a friend wrote the book of predictions and through the book, what was written down and the diagrams etc. His granddaughter Sylvie was to stop them with Leonardo. It is a race against time. They get the truth this time but there is always a next time. There were some things that bothered me thus being There was a photo on Mari’s father’s desk and I felt as if it there was an emphasis that it had to have been of importance but in the end it was mentioned again. Why is it always the Russians? I personally would have liked to have seen a bigger picture of what was to come maybe that will happen in the next upcoming books. I will most certainly read them. In my opinion the book could have been longer to fill in some more gaps and to create a secure foundation. This is also my opinion that the end just fizzled out. I turned the next page and it was over. Say what?
If you want something different then I can only recommend this book!
I was given an ARC of this book via Netgalley in return for an honest review.
The book opens with a bang and wham you are hooked. A murder, CIA cover up, a traitor, Russian billionaire, hunky guys with psychic abilities and don't forget Nostrodamus's Quatrains.
This is a book that could be in the realms of possibility so it is all the more fascinating and compelling. I found myself glued to the pages and just couldn't put it down. I hated that work and sleep interfered with my enjoyment of the book and then when it ended I felt a little bereft as I didn't want it to end, I wanted Kel, Hawk, Nik, Mari and Slyvie to continue the adventure and expose more mysteries. I'm so glad this is the first in a series and can't wait to read book 2. This is going to be a compelling series especially as it is based around the Quatrains of Nostrodamus. Who doesn't love a mystery based on the past especially when they are wrapped up in mysterious verse.
I absolutely loved this book. I felt that it had all the elements to make a fantastic read, murder, mystery, hunky men, a little bit of fantasy, a mysterious villain and a little bit of romance thrown in.
The author's style of writing made it a quick easy read and had you hooked from page 1.
View to a Kill is the first in Lisa Hughey’s The Nostradamus Prophecies series in the paranormal/romantic suspense genre. I am not a huge romantic suspense reader, but the synopsis of the book hooked me and I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley. The story focuses on Nik Stanley, a troubled CIA covert operative and Marisol Johnson, the secret twin of Nik’s deceased best friend and former comrade. Things went horribly awry on their last operation, and Nik has been troubled since they declared John’s actions a suicide, and Marisol is receiving posthumous messages from her brother that indicates there is more to the story. The chemistry between Nik and Marisol is hot and wonderfully written, and the story with its paranormal twists and mental abilities is fascinating.
My main beef is that there seemed to be several stories intertwined with Nik and Marisol’s story, to the point that the two main characters seem to take a back seat. So many additional side stories going on left certain questions unresolved, and while I understand as the first book this will set up the follow-on novels for this series, it seemed a little much. The Nostradamus prophecy adds a welcome layer of interest, but the quatrains are quoted four total times within the book which seemed a little repetitive. On a last note, I understand the secrecy required for classified operations, but Marisol chose to hide her connection to her brother and try to use Nik and the team instead of taking an honest approach from the start. Despite several opportune occasions to come clean, she continued to uphold the façade, which came back to bite her in the end. She seemed to be a little bit of a hindrance to the operation at certain points, and in my female leads I expect more usefulness and backbone.
While that seemed like a lot of negative, I did enjoy the story and find the series to be very promising. The steamy goodness between the lead characters is off the charts and it is easy to root for team Nik/Mari.

Summary: Mari’s twin brother, John, works for the CIA In a very secret program. On a mission he ends up committing suicide, at least that’s what the reports are saying. As things heat up between the two and secrets are revealed they find out that it isn’t just John’s “suicide” that needs investigating.
Thoughts: Wow, when I read the blub it sounded interesting so I thought “why not, I’ll give it a try”. Boy am I glad I did. There was intrigue shrouded in mystery covered in sexual tension. I got sucked in like quicksand. I loved Mari, full of insecurities yet so strong. And Nik, well, I’ve got another book boyfriend, so hot, loyal and fiercely protective. I look forward to reading more of Lisa Hughey’s books since this was my first.
I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book - it is a phenomenal start to a new series. If you are familiar with the author, then you already know that she creates well crafted and complex romantic suspense novels. In this book, an unexpected homicide is interwoven with prophecies by Nostrodamus. Add in a bit of romance and she has created a completely engaging book that kept me turning pages just as quickly as possible.
I strongly recommend this to suspense and romantic suspense fans. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series. Ms. Hughey has been on my must read authors' list and this book exemplifies why. This is a must read.
Received book through NetGalley for an honest review.
She dreams of his death each night. How could her brother be dead and why? He dreams of his friends death each night. Why did his friend get himself killed? Was it really suicide?
Mari must find out the truth of her brother's death. And will Nik, her brother's friend be able to help. But there are so many lies and deceptions. And now as she has gotten closer to Nik there are even more feelings to understand.
Wow, this story is off the charts awesome. Is has a science fiction aspect that is truly believable. The love story is wonderful. This is the kind of story that I can see being made into a tv series. The characters all seemed to come from troubled past, but their gifts brought them together. With a mystery who done it thrown in, this story has it all.
The plot is complex with intriguing sci-fi / supernatural elements, unexpected twists that will keep you guessing, characters that capture your interest, mystery and romance that'll keep you reading.

Some days after finishing this novel I still have troubles expressing what I thought about it. At the same time I liked it and found there were gaps.
We have some CIA agents who are part of a special section in charge of “remote viewings”. This part is not clear, we just know they have unusual abilities, they are not the first in this section or the only one in the world. Some are even able to do “past viewing”. What is all that exactly? How does it work? It’s really a pity everything wasn’t explain more because I spent a lot of time wondering and that ruined a bit the rest of my reading.
Anyway, one of the members of this group is suspected of walking deliberately in front of an enemy’s bullets during a physical mission. The hero, Nik, who has saw the scene, feels guilty for not saving him, and drown his guilt in beer. This drink problem aside (I have a personal intolerance toward alcoholism) I thought his behavior was logical regarding the situation: he has doubts, he’s looking for answers, and he gets nervous when his friends don’t believe him and don’t support him.
The heroine, Mari, is the dead agent’s twin, whose existence no one knew. She refuses to believe to the suicide theory because she experience in her dreams every time she sleeps her brother’s death as if she was him, so she decides to get close to his friends to investigate discreetly. She’s a strong heroine but her closed-in-order-not-to-suffer side ended up annoying me. Inevitably the attraction between those two is immediate and intense but there are a lot of moments of internal doubts slowing the acting out then to the realization by both of the evolution of their own feelings.
There also a plot that seems secondary with a female descendant of Nostradamus in charge of figuring out one of her ancestor’s prophecies in order to prevent world war III, and which in fact mixed to the main plot. All the parts concerning her are written in the first person till her investigation has her join the main story.
This novel is interesting in the development of the characters and the couple, and in the investigation that progresses interestingly. But for me the lack of explanations about the psychic possibilities of all the characters is a big negative point that bothered me a lot.
She doesn’t believe the CIA in regards to her brother’s death, so Mari Johnson turns to his surprisingly sexy partner who was with him when he died in this thrilling paranormal romantic suspense.
Nik relieves the night he watched his best friend die, battling the guilt that haunts him and the reader can’t help but get pulled into the intrigue as Mari and Nik join forces and are thrown a little too close together. This story has a very tense atmosphere that sizzles with electricity from every page as the attraction between Mari and Nik strengthens but this relationship is one full of cracks and crevices where secrets and emotional issues overwhelm them every step of the way which readers can’t help but understand and relate to, no matter which character is expressing themselves as these strong, compelling characters draw readers into this steady to fast paced plot full of suspense, excitement and romance.
The story has an abundance of intriguing elements, characters and directions that capture the reader’s interest and builds their curiosity which keeps anticipations high while unexpected twists keeps everyone including the readers off balance. The scenes are well written and full of details that make it easy for the reader to become engrossed in the story but I will warn you that is also a bit complex because there is way more going on than meets the eye and at times is a might bit confusing until the author gives just the right hint and you have that aha moment.
If you have any clue about the Nostradamus Prophecies then you will expect some of the riddle like dialogue that takes place in the story and since it is a major part of the overall series plot, you will take it in stride, but I have to tell you that it sure had my mind whirling and there was so much going on that there was no way I could have predicted the outcome.
View To A Kill is the start of The Nostradamus Prophecies series I always expect the first story in a series to be heavy on world building and additional characters place in this world. And there is a lot going on in this story… part of me wants to say too much was going on, but I believe that in the continuation oft he series we’ll be glad for those bits of information early on.
Nik’s partner, John was killed on a special ops assignment – although it was ruled that John committed suicide by the powers that be. That makes no sense to Nik and he is hounded by nightly dreams that only add to the confusion in his mind.
John had a twin sister, Mari, who he never told any of his associates about. Now Mari is receiving messages from her deceased twin nightly. She needs to find out the truth – and the best way in is through her brother’s partner, Nik.
View To A Kill is certainly action packed, a very good mix of information that we need for this story and for those to come. We are introduced to the other members of this paranormal abilities special ops group, and while I was annoyed at them not believing Nik sooner I am looking forward to their unique stories. Mari and Nik had sizzle off the charts at times, and if I wished for more romance than action that is simply my enjoyment style of reading.
Overall I enjoyed this story very much and am looking forward to the next installment in the series. If you love Paranormal, perhaps a touch of Mystery along with your Romance then you would enjoy View To A Kill. I happen to be fascinated with prophecies of any kind, so that was of particular enjoyment to me.
*I received an e-ARC of View To A Kill from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
A goodreads win I really enjoyed reading View to a kill by Lisa Hughey. This is the 1st book in The Nostradamus prophecies. This is a romance story with a difference. It is set in secret government agency with investigators with paranormal abilities, there is an undercover relative of Nostradamus, who is trying to save the world by uncovering the meanings of his quatrain's with a secret family key. This story centre's around a death & the main characters spend their time trying to find out what really happened the night of John death & of his father's apparent suicide. It took me a little while to get into the story, but once I did I was hooked. This is the first book written by Lisa Hughey that I have read, I am definitely going to read more. I really liked the way the story is written from each characters perspective, I found it easy to connect with them & I felt that I was with them right till the end & left me wanting to read more.
Dale Mayer and Cherry Adair move over this is gonna be great! If you like psychic suspense and love stories with great characters you have to read this new series. It takes a team of psychic agents to figure out what went south during a mission. All of it complicated by the emotions of losing a team member during what should have been a straight forward photo opportunity. With the appearance of the dead mans twin having the same dreams as his best friend they finally start to put the pieces together and even though Mari and Nik get a Hea put of ot we are no where near mission complete. Awesome. No true cliffhanger but i will be following this series closely. Great job Lisa I loved it.
Absolutely loved this story. There are lots of players but that's to be expected when trying to get to the bottom of how/why CIA is saying John was killed or did he really commit suicide? There are some very interesting "psychic" abilities that connect the players. Mari is a wild card & very new to the game but Nik is drawn to her. Nik is devastated over his best friend John's death & Mari is devastated over the loss of her twin brother. Both are loners with trust issues, seeking answers they learn from one another & can't resist their attraction which slowly chips away at their shielded hearts. Can't wait to read what happens next!!
Dommage.
