Cowboy Trace Williams thought he had trouble when his wife served him with divorce papers, forcing him to move to his cousin’s horse rescue ranch. But that was nothing compared to handling the female squatter he’s supposed to evict from Last Chance Ranch. Though she’s a crack shot and has no use for politeness or subtlety, her ability to communicate with animals has him seeking her out on behalf of the ranch…and himself. Whisper Adams lives off the grid. She cares for her invalid uncle and watches over the wildlife that finds her. The animals are more trustworthy than the people she’s encountered. So when a hard-bodied, easy going cowboy arrives at her trailer and causes her heart to race, she’s anxious for him to leave, until he asks for her help at the ranch. Since they end up together more often than she prefers, Whisper doesn’t deny her attraction to Trace, who introduces her to new experiences, from riding horses to a New Year’s night in bed. But mixing with people, any people, opens her to new threats. This relationship might cost Trace his heart, but it could very well cost Whisper her life. This is the 2nd book in the Last Chance Series that began with Christmas with Angel.

This is another good book in this series. Trace is back at Second Chance Ranch since his wife had divorce papers delivered to him. Needless to say, he is off women now. He is such a good guy who tries to help people. His cousin sends him to get Whisper off their property. Trace doesn’t feel good about this, but does as he is told. There he meets Whisper, well actually he meets the end of her gun first! I loved Whisper. She is so funny in an unintentional way. She is so honest and says exactly what she is thinking. It is so refreshing to see a woman who isn’t trying to manipulate a man. She also has a gift with animals. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
Trace’s Trouble is a charming, engaging story with wonderful characters, an interesting storyline, lots of animals, several funny moments, great family interaction, drama, suspense, danger, and romance.
I love Whisper! She is such a fresh, honest to the core, real character with a sweet touch of vulnerability and a feisty attitude. There are no pretenses, what you see is what you get and she says what is on her mind. After her introduction in Christmas with Angel, book one in the series, I was really intrigued by her character and I am so excited to see her get a story and her own HEA.
Trace Williams is having a bit of bad luck with his wife serving divorce papers, taking everything and forcing him to move to Last Chance – his cousin Cole’s horse rescue ranch. And then if that is not enough his cousin tasks him with removing a squatter from the border of their land. It also happens to not be just any squatter, but one his cousin’s wife is friendly with and who helped them out with a rescue horse. He, of course, wants nothing to do with this and he can think of so many ways this can backfire but he’s on the ranch to help so if evicting her was on his day’s to-do list, then so be it. He cannot imagine it could possibly be that hard to do…until he meets up with her in the hills…and her gun. His curiosity is definitely piqued by the quiet yet blunt-talking, striking female and before taking any action he decides he needs to learn more. His cousin will definitely not be pleased but the more time he spends with Whisper the more he sees the outlook for his future changing. But when her secrets are exposed and her life is in danger will her past stop him from letting go of his own hang-ups in time to save her.
Whisper Adams is in hiding. She lives off the grid nestled in a thick hilled area on the edge of Last Chance Ranch and cares for her invalid uncle, Joey. She just wants to live her life, care for her uncle, and keep any people contact to a bare minimum; actually none at all would suit her needs just fine. She also has a special kinship with animals and always helps any that cross her path. She is secluded in these hills for a reason, after all. If those seeking her find her, the lesser complication would be she and her uncle have to move again and the worst would be that she’s dead. As tiring as it would be to move yet again, she would definitely rather have the first option…should anyone ask her opinion. When Trace shows up asking questions and meets her uncle, it’s unsettling and it stirs foreign feelings for Whisper. She wants to both rush him off and keep him close. So when he shows back up desperate for her help with a time-sensitive rescue she throws her caution to the side and jumps in to help. And of course, getting to spend more time with Trace is definitely a bonus. He awakens desires and shows her things she never dreamed of and the way he treats her uncle just endears him to her even more. However, she’s taking a huge risk with her way of living and her very life letting Trace get closer and she being pulled more into his family life. When her background is revealed and her past threat becomes a present danger will she and Trace be able to stay together or will wounded hearts be the perfect distraction and cause her demise.
These two characters were great together. I enjoyed the way they blended both their worlds and strengthened their relationship and the way Trace’s family welcomed Whisper and her uncle into their family. No matter what was going on with their own lives, they came together for the thriving of the ranch and their love of animals and did what needed to be done. Another great read in the Last Chance Ranch series.
Whisper is an enigma, living off the grid with her elderly uncle. She doesn’t trust men, but she can’t resist the sexy as sin cowboy with a battered heart and a knack to rescue abused horses. Trace makes her feel things she’s never felt before. Part of her wants to open her heart, the other part is always on guard. Her off the grid lifestyle isn’t a choice but a necessity. Being around the Last Chance crew as wonderful as it is also dangerous especially when someone says they know her from somewhere. Trace knows Whisper is hiding something but he never thought her secret would rip his heart out. Instead of waiting for an explanation he storms off on horseback. By the time he comes to his senses it may be to late. Great build up. Good tension throughout. Engaging characters. Steamy sex. The perfect ingredients for one hot read.
A reclusive woman lives on high land in cactus country, with her elderly relative, in a trailer. A cowboy is sent up to make sure the two aren't acquiring squatters' rights. I like the number of horses in the story. I don't think it's realistic that the two main characters go to thoughts and deeds of adult activity almost immediately they get acquainted. But maybe some people do. A grey horse is not a palomino, because a palomino is a distinct colour as well as a breed. A horse that won't eat is getting fed intravenously - sounds odd. I can imagine a tube being put down its nostrils to the throat and stomach, and liquid food added. Or a paste being squirted onto the tongue for swallowing. But injecting some food into a vein really does not sound like it would work, and it's probably dangerous.
I read a Kindle version. This is an unbiased review.
Trace man who.lost everything when his wife served him.his divorced paper. Now hes living on his cousins ranch. Pluse hes doing hid cousins dirty work evicting a women who saved her cousin fiance.....jows that good please shes down on her luck. Whisper livid off the grid carrying for her Uncle not taking crap off anyone. Animals are the only thing trustworthy she has come to find out. She cant let people in because it is to dangerous to her life and her heart. But her heart wanted this man who came to throw her off. The land she was on. He dudnt want another women in his life, this one was different but different enough. Come read about the women who talked to Amimals. Enjoy the awesome ride Lexi takes you on
"Trace's Trouble" (Last Chance Book 2) by Lexi Post is a great read. I loved Trace and Whisper's story. This is a great addition to the Last Chance series, packed with humor, hot cowboys, romance, passion, drama, entertaining characters, close family, happily ever after and more. Looking forward to seeing what happens next with these interesting characters in this series. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, cowboys, and series.
A good second chance romance. Trace has sworn off women after his soon to be ex-wife has left him with nothing. He is living with his grandparents and working for his cousin. Whisper has been in hiding with her uncle for years. After she is forced to save Lacey from an abusive horse owner, her life will never be the same. Will Whisper be able to go back to her quiet life or will her secret ruin everything that she has worked so hard to hide?

I absolutely love Whisper, our heroine of this book, she is feisty and blunt, scan practically read an animal's emotions and is extremely protective of all animals. It makes her an amazingly interesting character to read about.
I thoroughly enjoyed Whisper's character. Super smart, home-schooled with little socialization as a teen, she's blunt and straight forward. Trace isn't sure what to make of her, until he makes the wrong choice. There's danger and suspense mixed in. Very enjoyable story.
There is naive, and then there are the protagonists of this story. Supposedly steamy scenes made me giggle (and I haven't been a teenager for a looooong time). Sorry but completely unrealistic and
I received an ARC of this title from the author in exchange for an honest review and here it is: 4.5 stars.
Trace's Trouble is the second book in the Last Chance series, but it's the first one I've read, and it's a very good, very sexy, albeit short read.
Trace is living on his brother Cole's ranch, waiting for his divorce to be finalized and assuming his gold-digging wife will get his every last dime. Cole asks him to tell the squatters on his property to leave--the squatter being Whisper, who in the first book in this series, helped save Cole's fiance, Lacey, and Whisper's Uncle Joey, the victim of several strokes who is physically incapacitated. Trace doesn't have the heart to do it, and he's both attracted to and fascinated by Whisper, who gives all indications of being anti-social and at the same time appears to be a gifted animal-whisperer.
There are secrets to be revealed, such as the reason why Whisper is in hiding, and there's plenty of the heat we expect to find in one of Ms. Post's erotic romance novels, both before and after we learn what those secrets are.
My only issue is one that I usually have when I'm enjoying a novel I'm reading, and that issue is that I wish it had been longer. I'd have liked to get to know these characters better. I wanted to know more about how Trace's marriage fell apart, I wanted more backstory on Whisper and her amazing gift of empathy with animals, and since I haven't yet read the first book in this series, I'd have liked a little more information about what transpired in Book 1, and how Lacey came to know Whisper in the first place. In a way, I suppose that's a compliment--if a book leaves me wanting more, it clearly means I enjoyed reading it, and I truly did.
This book was given to me for an honest review. A GREAT read by Lexi Post!! Trace is told by his cousin to get rid of the squatter up on the hill. He goes and is amazed at what he finds. Whisper and her uncle are living in a trailer off the grid because she needs to stay hidden from her cousins. She's an excellent shot and can feel animals feelings. Her uncle is recovering from a stroke and needs care so Whisper is doing just that. As her and Trace come to an understanding, their friendship grows into being more than friends but can trace trust her after he finds out who she really is? A surprise is in store for both of them as they learn about each other.
Whisper’s quirky, and sometimes eerie nature kept readers on their toes, while Trace was endearing in his quest to be indifferent, but unable to resist the lure of this unassumingly charming woman.
And no Cowboy romance would be complete without an element of danger thrown in to assist our wayward hero.
I can only imagine this series getting better and better with each exciting new story and I’m chomping at the bit to read each and every one!.
A rich story full of interesting characters, living every day lives with a touch of excitement and romance. Whisper and Trace are perfect for each other. But like all good relationships, it requires a lot of compromise and work, with a healthy dose of romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and revisiting old characters, (as they still feel like friends) from previous Lexi Posts books I've read. I loved this story, and highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed!
I loved Whisper in Christmas with Angel, so it was great to get her story. Although mostly romantic-suspense, there is a thread of rom-com that kept me smiling.
