By and large, I think Volo makes good recommendations when it comes to planning your visit to the City of Splendors, but sometimes he gets a little too touristy for my tastes. I mean, he just gets lazy, given that half of his restaurant suggestions are the Waterdhavian equivalent of the Hard Rock Café. Like, not all the good taverns are in Virgin’s Square, am I right? Give me some of those greasy spoons in South Ward over The Bowels of the Earth any day.
I love the setting of Faerun already, and this is like the frosting on the cake. Details, details, D E T A I L S! the more I get to know about my favorite city in the Realms, the happier I am, and this book supplies a good deal of them, from the shadowy alleys to the best taverns and inns to the best shops where to get almost anything. This book makes me wish that the Realms were real.
