This is the first introductory statistics text to use an estimation approach from the start to help readers understand effect sizes, confidence intervals (CIs), and meta-analysis (‘the new statistics’). It is also the first text to explain the new and exciting Open Science practices, which encourage replication and enhance the trustworthiness of research. In addition, the book explains NHST fully so students can understand published research. Numerous real research examples are used throughout. The exposition covers both new statistics based on CI and effect size and old statistics based on p-value and NHST. Besides talking about open science (i never could understand how can science succeed while being closed) in the early chapter, they also cover topics such as correlation, regression, and how to use the introduced statistics in different experimental situation.

I believe (cos' I didn't try it) the material will be more comprehensible with the ESCI software provided by the authors.

My only gripe is that I expected more deeper coverage of CI and effect size. I suppose the earlier book "Understanding the New Statistics" by the first author is better suited for such coverage.

This is the book I will recommending to folks looking for an introductory book about new inferential statistics. I wouldn't be surprised if I too reached for it in my shelf in the future :)
