This isn't a spoiler, merely a comment on the writing process.

Consider a hurricane (appropriate, actually, because this is billed as "A Disaster Novel"). It has a front that passes over and pretty much flattens everything. Everyone's in a panic, trying to react to what's happened, but they're in the eye so nothing bad's going on and they've got time. Yet no sooner do they start organizing and pulling at the bits of their lives when the other side of the hurricane hits and things get much, much worse. Finally the hurricane has passed and now all that's left is picking up the pieces.

Since the general plot and pace of the novel are predictable, such a novel must rise and fall on its characters and the quality of those ups and downs. I don't think Cadle did a particularly good job, hence the three stars. The characters are very two-dimensional, and in fact there are really only two (the third is a focus, not an active participant). And for all the tornado drama, the story is really quite humdrum and who cares?

This is not an author I will look for again.

This was very short and focuses on a town hit back-to-back by two large tornadoes. This felt like an episode of "Storm Stories" from the Weather Channel, including a cliche' storm chaser character. The internal conflict of the police officer who had to balance his job as a first responder to his worry over his child was interesting.

Fantastic!

I love natural disaster novels, but I'm somewhat picky about them. That being said, this is one of the best I have ever read! This is my second book by this author and I've already got the rest of them. It is such a fantastic book. I recommended them to my book friends.

This is the third book by Cadle I read, and I did like it, but it ended kind of abruptly for my taste. I wanted to see what happened next, and I felt like Cadle focused a little too much on

That said, the first 3/4s of the book was great and really drew me in, and if that final quarter had been focused on something else and had developed other aspects of the characters or plot a bit more, I think this could have rivaled Erupt as my favorite.

To be fair, this book was vividly detailed, highly descriptive, and propelled the reader into the path of the storm and then into the aftermath of finding survivors in a deadly landscape. It was rich in emotion and startlingly realistic.

For me, it dragged. The pacing was slow, the last few chapters a dizzying back and forth on where the main character was and what was going through his mind. Which, again, was probably very realistic. It just didn't quite catch me as much.

A quick fun disaster read

Storm is exactly what you should expect out of a natural disaster book. Meteorological mayhem followed by rescue and recovery. Not exceptional, but still a good read!

An unbelievable book about a single man's efforts in the midst of total destruction.

A tornado has touched down in a small Ohio town and Greg is on alert with the rest of the police to try and make sure everyone gets to shelter. But he is also the single parent of a vibrant little girl, Holly. He is torn between duty and family as time runs out and he has to react as quickly as possible.

His aunt also lives in town and is visiting her husband in a nursing home, suffering from Alzheimer's. She also must balance her concerns of her nephew and his daughter with the plight that she is in an immobile loved one.

This book was intense in its details of the power of Mother Nature and the overall grasp of such total devastation. The characters are beautifully and realistically formed to invoke a roller coaster of emotion while reading. Mr. Cadle has done an amazing job with this story and I look forward to searching out more of his books. Well done!

Another winner from Lou Cadle. I began reading her work after loving the covers. Yes, I bought all the books just by covers. And I am so glad I did.

Tornadoes are one of the stars of the book. But what makes the storyline are the humans. Greg is a single Dad who is also a police officer. He is to protect and serve. But Mother Nature has other plans for him. And his child. I can't say more....spoilers. But trust me, the story arc for this is brilliant. You can feel the despair, sadness and hope from Lou's writing.

Don't let this pass you by. Grab the book, read and then buy all her books. You may thank me later. :)

Great disaster surgery

Mr Cadle has a wonderful way of making you feel you are right in the middle of his stories.I enjoy disaster novels, though not sure why! And this one was very intense and realistic.I'm from Ohio and enjoyed knowing places he wrote into his book....I had a daughter who lived in Eaton and today we were in the country and during storms and I couldn't help but picture what these characters were involved in...kept imagining seeing that tornado.my only thought was I have no idea where fidelity Ohio is or most likely is it a fictional city....well with a read of you like disaster books like me..just you will see the skies differently, be forewarned..

Good read, didn't feel like huge action, even if it is a about tornados, still gripping and makes you want to know what will happen next. I finished the book in one sitting. I would recommend it. Quite emotional. It is about love between father and daughter, torn between duties as a police officer and need to be with his daughter in very difficult times.

Love and Loss

When a t Kimi ending oily s hit by an F3 tornado, followed by an F5. The devastation is mind numbing. When your daughter is one of the injured, you do everything to help.
