the last Sarah case ended with her kidnapping from the hospital. her partner searches for her with little luck although the search turns up ties to homeland security! finally, a tech assist from a tech wizard locates Sarah and she is released by her captors so they can leave the scene. turns out massive theft of funds, bogus and real government involvement result in yet another tragedy. Sarah agrees to retire from the field and spend more time in the office researching.

A Case Too Close: A Carter Petersen Mysteries Book 1: (27 chapters) — Al Boudreau and Jennifer L. Jennings Oct. 7-8, 2018

Sarah is kidnapped and Carter pursues all leads to find her.

I had to think about this book for a few days before I wrote the review. I really like the book and how fast paced it read once I got into the story. But this was a hard one for me to rate. This review is going to be more about feelings that actual substance. Feelings as related to how I felt after I read the story. It's a decent story, well written, great, fast plot..... HOWEVER. (Yes, a very big ....)

BUT, I didn’t like the implied male chauvinist angle this book took. Especially at the end.

I understand what the author(s) were trying to do here, but I really didn’t like the after feeling I had in my mind. Sarah is already becoming something entirely different from the person that I begrudgingly liked. (I didn’t really like the first book in the series.) It was interesting to get into the mind of Carter. But I think this is one of those cases where I really wish I didn’t know what he was thinking in his mind. It soured me on him, and made him out to be every other typical male, albeit a male that is in love with his partner and can’t see how strong she is on her own.

But if I had never read the Sarah Woods series, I might have liked it better. Or not. I don’t really like stories where men portray women as weak. Not that he did that to Sarah, but I felt at the end, he didn’t want her to go anywhere again, or at least not be out of sight of him. I’m curious how Sarah is going to react to this, or if it will ever come filly to light. Remember, this is MY FEELINGS. This of course may not be at all what the author was trying to convey, or what others felt after reading the book.

Just the same, I won’t be reading any more in the series, but I am going back to Sarah Woods and finish up the books it that series.

I’ll take the high road on this story. 3 stars, but it’s with hesitation.

Nice start to finish flow but a bit light on drama and suspense for my current flavor of the month. CP must be a real hottie.
